Job Description

Purpose of the role

To assess and approve/decline credit applications based on established credit policies, risk appetite, and regulatory requirement and analysing financial information, evaluating creditworthiness, and recommending credit terms and conditions to ensure responsible lending practices.

Accountabilities

  • Analysis of lending  applications, financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant documents to assess the borrower's creditworthiness and repayment capacity. 
  • Monitoring the performance of approved lending , identifying potential risks and early warning signs of delinquency. 
  • Evaluation of the risk profile of each application considering factors like industry trends, borrower financials, collateral, and market conditions. 
  • Provision of independent credit decisions on lending  applications, adhering to established credit policies, risk parameters, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Development and implementation of appropriate course of action for troubled lending , including workout plans, restructuring, or collections.

Step into the role as a Credit Risk Vice President, where you will be responsible for assessing and approving credit transactions in line with the bank’s risk appetite, credit policies and regulatory requirements. Working closely with Front Office, Risk and other stakeholders, you will provide independent credit decisions, oversee portfolio risks and support responsible lending practices across the business.
  • Current or previous experience in a credit risk management role and exercising credit approval authority or making credit decisions.
  • Strong knowledge of the Japanese political and economic environment and its impact on the Japanese financial sector, combined with an understanding of investment banking products, including loans, securities financing transactions, and derivatives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are essential, along with native-level proficiency in Japanese. This role will be based in our Tokyo office.
  • Strong team player with the ability to perform effectively under pressure and manage urgent transactions within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret financial statements, supported by strong numerical and analytical skills, as well as the ability to perform quantitative and statistical analysis to assess and quantify risks.
  • Ability to review and negotiate legal documentation, including ISDA, CSA, JSDA, and other related agreements.
  • Ability to utilise multiple data and information sources to analyse complex issues, exercise sound judgement, and present practical solutions while balancing risk management requirements with the firm's overall business objectives.

You may be assessed on key critical skills relevant for success in the role such as mathematics, finance, programming, risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, and strategic thinking.
