About Waythrough

Waythrough was formed in 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Together, we’ve created one of the largest mental health and social support charities in England.

Every year, we support around 125,000 people through nearly 200 services – and it’s all made possible by our 3,500 brilliant staff and volunteers.

Make a real difference in your community

Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier, more independent lives? Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.

As a Casual Recovery Worker, you will provide person-centred, strengths-based support tailored to the individual needs of the people who use our services.

You’ll encourage choice, control and active participation, helping people develop the skills and confidence they need to live as independently as possible.

You will also work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies, contributing to the safe and effective day-to-day running of our services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing compassionate, person-centred and strengths-based support.

  • Promoting physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

  • Supporting people to develop independent living skills, including budgeting, community engagement and accessing services.

  • Encouraging individuals to have choice and control over decisions affecting their lives.

  • Supporting people to work towards their personal goals and greater independence.

  • Building positive and professional relationships with people using our services.

  • Maintaining accurate, timely and confidential records in line with GDPR and organisational policies.

  • Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and working in line with our Code of Conduct.

  • Responding appropriately to sensitive and complex situations.

  • Identifying and responding to risk, following safeguarding, health and safety and organisational procedures.

  • Working positively with colleagues, external agencies and other professionals.

  • Contributing to team working, handovers and the effective delivery of the service.

  • Travelling across the region as required to support service delivery.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, reliable and committed to supporting people to achieve greater independence.

You’ll be someone who can build trusting and professional relationships and remain calm and positive when responding to sensitive or complex situations.

You will:

  • Communicate effectively with people at all levels.

  • Respond with kindness and compassion to sensitive and complex situations.

  • Be able to motivate, support and advocate for people using our services.

  • Work confidently both independently and as part of a team.

  • Have good organisational, IT and record-keeping skills.

  • Be able to plan and prioritise your workload and work effectively under pressure.

  • Have a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

  • Be passionate about supporting people to achieve their goals and greater independence.

  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle, as travel across the region is required.

Previous experience of working with vulnerable people or people with complex needs would be advantageous, as would experience of supporting people towards greater independence.

A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or equivalent, would be desirable. Qualification or accredited training in mental health, substance misuse or recovery support would also be advantageous.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who shares our values of Kindness, Courage and Respect and wants to make a positive difference to the people we support.
