Who you'll be:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Application Security Engineer to provide specialized security engineering and sustainment support for our agency's application systems. This role is crucial in securing systems throughout their lifecycle, from development to operations, while integrating Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) into our security tools. The engineer will ensure effective application system administration, configuration, and tuning, while supporting Information Systems Security Officers (ISSOs) during the ATO/ATT process.
What you'll do:
- Administer, configure, maintain, tune, and secure application systems to prevent unnecessary POA&Ms and risk; create and maintain application tuning and O&M SOPs.
- Operate and maintain mandated applications under the Agency's SOC control, ensuring full software lifecycle management.
- Support ISSOs during the Agency's ATO/ATT process by providing complete and accurate documentation.
- Develop, deploy, and integrate ML and AI tools into the Agency's security suite.
- Perform weekly security impact assessments and assist in evaluating vendor products for security risks.
- Ensure continuous monitoring of CSD-managed applications, with alerting for critical incidents and daily status reporting.
- Manage application configuration items under the change management tool, ensuring compliance with Change Management policies.
- Ensure application logging compliance with Federal Security Logging mandates and support the CSD Service Desk in vulnerability remediation.
What you need:
- 5 years of experience in system administration, database administration, network engineering, software engineering, or software development with a focus on Cyber Security; or with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field, 3 years of experience.
- Strong knowledge of federal security standards and best practices in application security.
- TS/SCI clearance required for specific roles due to elevated-access program support.
Nice to have:
- Preferred certifications: CompTIA Security+, AWS Certified Security – Specialty.

The base pay range for this position in these locations is shown below.
