Job Description

What is the opportunity?

As an Analyst/Associate on our Credit Transaction Management team, you will work closely with our sector coverage Corporate Banking to support the growth of our lending portfolio, and you will manage a portfolio of clients within the Global Corporate Banking division of RBC Capital Markets. You will also work closely with other groups within Capital Markets and the Bank to deliver a full range of credit and banking services to corporate clients of the Bank.

Please note: This role can be at the Analyst or Associate level, depending on the incumbent's background and skillset.

What will you do?

You will have an assigned portfolio of clients and borrowers, and you will be responsible for the administration of your portfolio. Within this portfolio, you will be responsible for demonstrating that the risk and reward of credit decisions are understood and actively measured and managed for banking book business within approved risk appetite, ensuring appropriate action is taken as warranted.

You will foster relationships with the following key internal stakeholders to support the growth of the RBC Capital Markets loan book and trading business: Corporate Banking (CB), Group Risk Management (GRM), Global Markets (GM), Global Loans Administration (GLA), and Global Banking Service Centre (GBSC).

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Credit Underwriting: Provide credit underwriting on a wide variety of credit transactions and present deals in the credit adjudication process. Transaction work includes: writing transaction memos for submission to appropriate commitments committees; conducting financial analysis, including review of financial statements, borrowing bases, cash flow projections, structures, key terms, and industry trends for new credit, refinancings, renewals/extensions, covenant amendments/waivers, and other minor amendments; and coordinating with internal partners (Group Risk Management (GRM), Know Your Client (KYC), and Funding and Lending Services) to ensure timely closings.
  • Portfolio Transaction Management:  Includes but is not limited to: (i) Review and approve specific drawdown requests, (ii) Develop expertise in assigned portfolio, policies, and guidelines, and provide value-added advice to internal partners, (iii) Ensure compliance with Bank Policies, and (iv) Participate in team deliverables with respect to regulatory/audit requests.
  • Data Integrity: Ensure credit agreement terms are correctly reflected in the Bank’s systems and that all credit documentation is accounted for and reviewed in a timely basis (e.g. credit agreements, amendments, waivers, security documents).
  • Other Responsibilities: Completion of ad-hoc projects and other duties (including presenting to key stakeholders) efficiently and effectively in order to support the team’s planned and unplanned demands.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have's

  • Strong academic credentials including completion of a Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or Engineering, Mathematics, or any other problem-solving fields. An MBA, CPA, or CFA or other post-graduate degrees with a focus in business, accounting, economics, or mathematics would be an asset but is not required.
  • Applicants should have one to five years of work experience in a related field, including banking or corporate lending experience, finance and/or risk management, or knowledge of structuring and writing of NBFI credit proposals, credit processes, and policies.
  • You are a highly motivated self-starter with keen attention to detail and strong interest in NBFI  finance and credit.
  • You have the ability to read and understand complex legal documents related to NBFI transactions, including loan agreements, security documents, and property-related agreements.
  • You possess strong credit and analytical skills including the ability to critically assess financial statements, property valuations, market analyses, and other client reports to draw reasoned conclusions and recommend a course of action.
  • Your written and verbal communication skills are excellent, with strong negotiation abilities and an ability to manage conflicting demands and viewpoints and multiple stakeholder expectations.
  • You work effectively within a team environment and interact well at all levels within a large organization. You are able to prioritize, perform well under pressure, and meet time-sensitive deadlines. You have strong general PC skills (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), with proficiency in financial modeling tools being a plus.

Compensation for this position (including salary and discretionary/variable payments) will be determined by factors, including but not limited to candidate's experience, skills, registration status, performance, individual goals, market conditions, and business needs.

Pay Range

The expected pay range for this position is:

$75,000.00 - $100,000.00
