We are looking for a highly experienced, hands-on Lead AI Engineer to provide technical leadership in designing, building, and scaling secure, production-grade Agentic AI platforms, AI agents, and multi-agent orchestration solutions. The ideal candidate combines deep software engineering expertise with experience in agent frameworks, reasoning and tool use, workflow orchestration, enterprise integrations, evaluation, guardrails, observability, cloud AI services, and responsible AI governance. Experience with Business Process Automation, UiPath, and RPA solutions is valuable as a complementary capability for connecting intelligent agents with structured workflows, enterprise systems, digital workers, and human-in-the-loop processes.

By leading the architecture and delivery of intelligent agents, multi-agent workflows, enterprise integrations, evaluation frameworks, guardrails, and cloud-native deployment patterns, the Lead AI Engineer will accelerate reliable AI adoption and measurable operational outcomes. The role will also guide reusable platform capabilities, mentor engineers, resolve complex technical challenges, and ensure solutions meet responsible AI, security, governance, auditability, and production-support requirements.

Alpha Intelligence is State Street’s AI & Automation Center of Excellence for Alpha Implementations — the team rewiring how the industry’s first front-to-back platform gets delivered. We turn the deep expertise locked inside our implementation teams into engineered processes, governed knowledge and intelligent agents that cut manual effort, compress client go-live timelines and make every implementation faster and more predictable than the last.

What you will be responsible for

Lead technical strategy and delivery across business, engineering, operations, security, risk, and control teams to build secure, scalable Agentic AI and automation solutions.

• Own the technical vision, architecture, and hands-on delivery of enterprise AI agents, multi-agent workflows, and reusable Agentic AI platform capabilities.
• Lead the engineering of production-grade agents that reason, use tools and APIs, manage state, recover from failures, and execute multi-step workflows with appropriate human oversight.
• Lead process discovery and redesign, selecting the right mix of workflow automation, RPA, generative AI, and agentic execution.
• Integrate agents and automations with enterprise applications, data sources, APIs, messaging platforms, and approved tools.
• Deliver intelligent automation using UiPath and equivalent platforms, including workflows, bots, document processing, queues, approvals, and exception handling.
• Establish evaluation, testing, observability, security, governance, and quality controls for reliable production operation.
• Build cloud-native services, APIs, connectors, templates, and accelerators using platforms such as AWS Bedrock, Azure AI Foundry, GitHub Copilot, and UiPath Automation Cloud.
• Define engineering standards for source control, CI/CD, testing, release management, monitoring, and production readiness.
• Provide technical leadership through architecture decisions, design and code reviews, mentoring, engineering standards, delivery planning, stakeholder alignment, and resolution of complex production issues.

These skills will help you succeed in this role:

Must-have skills

• Extensive hands-on experience architecting and building production-grade AI agents and multi-agent workflows using LangGraph, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, CrewAI, Amazon Bedrock, or equivalent frameworks and services.
• Strong understanding of agent design patterns, including reasoning, tool use, memory, state, routing, guardrails, fallbacks, and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Experience delivering end-to-end business process automation, workflow orchestration, RPA, and intelligent automation solutions.
• Hands-on experience with UiPath Automation Cloud and GitHub Copilot, including development, integration, governance, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
• Strong Python and software engineering skills, including APIs, databases, Git, automated testing, CI/CD, containerization, and enterprise integrations.
• Experience with agent evaluation and observability, including regression testing, tracing, failure analysis, quality, safety, reliability, performance, and cost controls.
• Hands-on experience with AWS Bedrock, Azure AI Foundry, or an equivalent cloud AI platform, with knowledge of enterprise security, privacy, access control, auditability, and Responsible AI.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, including architecture ownership, mentoring, stakeholder management, delivery planning, design and code reviews, and cross-team execution.

Nice-to-have skills

• Experience with Model Context Protocol, agent interoperability, LLM gateways, multi-model routing, caching, and cost optimization.
• Exposure to RAG, process and task mining, BPMN, document intelligence, case management, or conversational automation.
• Experience building reusable automation components, custom activities, connectors, libraries, or automated test harnesses.
• Knowledge of cloud-native deployment and AI quality practices, including Kubernetes or serverless services, infrastructure as code, prompt versioning, synthetic testing, red teaming, and production monitoring.
• Experience in financial services, capital markets, investment servicing, or another regulated industry.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Systems, or related discipline. A master's degree is preferred but not necessary.
• 10–12 years of technology experience, including 6+ years delivering enterprise AI and automation solutions and leading Generative or Agentic AI initiatives.
• Proven experience delivering AI agents, agentic workflows, Business Process Automation, RPA solutions, evaluation frameworks, or intelligent automation capabilities from process discovery and design through production implementation and continuous improvement.
• Experience leading complex technical implementations, performing design and code reviews, and mentoring engineers across delivery teams.
• Cloud AI, UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Microsoft Power Platform, software engineering, or Generative AI certifications are preferred.
