About this Quantity Surveyor - MEP role at SMEC
Location: Mumbai Department: B&C – Urban / Project & Construction Management (PCM) Experience: 5–10 Years Position: Quantity Surveyor – MEP
Job Purpose
To manage and oversee MEP quantity surveying activities, including quantity take-offs, cost estimation, BOQ preparation, tender documentation, cost control, and commercial management for building and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) works.
- Perform quantity take-offs from MEP drawings, specifications, and design documents.
- Prepare cost estimates, budgets, rate analysis, and cost plans for MEP packages.
- Review tender documents, technical specifications, and contractor quotations.
- Assist in tender evaluation, commercial comparisons, and contractor negotiations.
- Monitor project costs, variations, and changes in scope throughout the project lifecycle.
- Evaluate interim payment applications and verify contractor bills against actual progress.
- Prepare and assess variation claims, final accounts, and cost reconciliation.
- Coordinate with project managers, design consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, contractual requirements, and applicable standards.
- Maintain accurate records of quantities, costs, variations, and commercial documentation.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering discipline.
- Relevant certification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Cost Management will be an advantage.
Required Experience and Skills
- 5–10 years of experience in MEP Quantity Surveying for building, commercial, residential, or infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, firefighting, and other building services.
- Proficiency in BOQ preparation, quantity take-offs, cost estimation, and rate analysis.
- Experience in tendering, contract administration, variation assessment, and cost control.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contractual documents.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and relevant measurement or estimation tools.
- Strong analytical, coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with project management consultants or multidisciplinary engineering consultancies is preferred.
