Join SEARHC Orthopedics in beautiful Juneau, Alaska, and become part of an expanding orthopedic program dedicated to keeping patients close to home for high-quality musculoskeletal care. We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to partner with an orthopedic surgeon in a growing practice that offers both clinic-based care and surgical support. This is a unique opportunity to help build orthopedic services in Juneau while serving the communities of Southeast Alaska.

The program will work closely with Primary Care providers throughout Southeast Alaska, creating a robust referral base and supporting SEARHC's vision of providing comprehensive care close to home. Patients who require surgery will have access to coordinated orthopedic services through both Juneau and Sitka, minimizing disruption to care and improving outcomes. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced orthopedic APP who enjoys autonomy, collaboration, and the chance to shape a growing practice from the ground up.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Annual Salary: $190,000.00

  • Financial incentives: $30,000 Sign-On Bonus and $20,000 Relocation Stipend. Educational Loan Reimbursement programs, with HRSA/NHSC, IHS, and PLSF.

Schedule & Work-Life Balance:

  • Full-time (1.0 FTE): Monday through Friday with no call responsibilities

  • Clinic hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Generous Time Off: 33 days (264 hours) annually, including holidays, and 10 days of CME.

Practice Details:

  • Clinic facilities: 6 exam spaces. One medical assistant per provider, Orthopedic nurse case manager, and clinical assistants. Ancillary services include Mammogram, CT, DEXA, Ultrasound including ECHO, X‑ray, laboratory services, and MRI.

  • Patient Volume: 12-14 patients per day in clinic, including telemedicine, and four hours of administrative time weekly. EMR and tools include Meditech, Dragon Dictation, and DAX AI assisted documentation.

  • Position Details: Manages acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions such as fractures, joint disorders, and sports injuries. Performs pre-operative assessments, including patient education, risk evaluation, and coordination of necessary testing. Delivers post-operative care, including wound management, pain control, and rehabilitation planning.


Experience, Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required:

  • Two or more years of experience as a practicing orthopedic provider required

  • State of Alaska Medical License as an NP or PA

  • Board-certified or eligible.

  • Maintains active, unrestricted DEA registration.

  • Maintains active SEARHC medical staff privileges.

  • BLS required within 45 days of hire and maintained thereafter.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job

  • Manages acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions such as fractures, joint disorders, and sports injuries.

  • Performs pre-operative assessments, including patient education, risk evaluation, and coordination of necessary testing.

  • Delivers post-operative care, including wound management, pain control, and rehabilitation planning.

  • Assists orthopedic surgeons intraoperatively, as credentialed.

  • Orders and interprets diagnostic imaging and laboratory tests to support clinical decision-making.

  • Coordinates patient care with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity and optimal outcomes.

  • Documents patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record, maintaining compliance with institutional standards.

  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of services is accordance with SEARHC policy.

  • Provides optimal patient experience using strong listening and communication skills.

  • Builds long-term patient care relationships.

  • Consults SEARHC physician as needed for patient care and uses other access to specialists as needed (i.e., AristaMD, ANMC providers, etc.).

  • Provides medical services at facilities within the SEARHC care network and other facilities and locations listed in SEARHC’s compact and funding agreement with the Indian Health Service.

  • Actively participates in SEARHC quality patient care initiatives and quality assurance programs.

  • Actively participates in provider meetings, clinic meetings, and SEARHC medical staff functions.

Other Functions

  • Depending upon the location and needs of the community served, participates in shared after-hours emergency call coverage.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

  • State of Alaska Medical License as an NP or PA

  • Board-certified or eligible.

  • Maintains active, unrestricted DEA registration.

  • Maintains active SEARHC medical staff privileges.

  • BLS required within 45 days of hire and maintained thereafter.

Experience Required

  • Two years of experience as a practicing provider

  • Additional clinical experience or training prior to practice as a licensed provider may be considered by the Medical Director of Primary Care Clinics to meet this minimum experience requirement.

Knowledge of

  • Primary health care practices and principles

  • Basic emergency care and protocol where appropriate

  • Common disease processes and pharmacology

  • Standards of care, EMTALA, HIPAA, health care risk management principles, medical ethics, and medical malpractice principles

Skills in

  • Effective communication skill and ability to interact with staff and patients

  • Operating essential basic medical equipment

  • Making proper assessments based upon history, exam, lab, x-ray, and other data

  • Incorporating health promotion and health prevention activities into patient care

  • Educating patients and family members about diagnoses, treatment plan alternatives, risks, options, and medications

  • Providing high-quality health care services including the performance of medical procedures appropriate to the outpatient and emergency care setting

Ability to
