The Role
At Catalyst Metals, we're entering an exciting phase of growth. With three new mining projects planned across the 40km Plutonic Gold Belt and a strategy focused on expanding production through our existing processing infrastructure, this is a unique opportunity to influence the future direction of a growing multi-mine operation.
The Open Pit Senior Geologist will lead and oversee all geological functions relating to open pit mining operations. This role is responsible for delivering accurate and timely grade control, geological modelling, reconciliation and resource development activities while providing strong leadership to the geology team.
Working closely with Mining, Planning, Metallurgy and Processing teams, you will play a key role in maximising ore recovery, supporting operational decision-making and ensuring geological standards are maintained across the operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead grade control activities across open pit mining operations
- Develop, maintain and optimise geological and grade control block models
- Manage drill planning, scheduling, data collection, interpretation and QAQC processes
- Complete geological mapping and orebody interpretation for active mining areas
- Monitor and deliver daily, monthly, quarterly and biannual reconciliation reporting
- Collaborate with Mine Planning to support mine design, scheduling and production outcomes
- Liaise with Processing and Metallurgy teams to optimise mine-to-mill performance
- Mentor, coach and develop geology team members while promoting technical excellence
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across geological processes and systems
- Manage geology consumables and departmental costs in line with operational budgets
- Prepare technical reports, presentations and recommendations to a professional standard
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with site standards, policies and procedures
Requirements
You are a highly capable senior geology professional who combines strong technical expertise with proven leadership experience in a production-focused mining environment.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Degree in Geology from a recognised tertiary institution
- Current WA C Class Driver's Licence
- Extensive geological experience within the mining industry, ideally in gold operations
- Strong open pit grade control, resource modelling and geological interpretation experience
- Demonstrated capability in resource estimation, wireframing and reconciliation processes
- Experience using geological modelling software such as Surpac, Vulcan and/or Leapfrog
- Strong understanding of mineral resource development and grade control methodologies
- Ability to analyse geological data and provide practical operational recommendations
- Proven leadership, mentoring and team development skills
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and report writing abilities
- Commitment to safety, environmental responsibility and continuous improvement
