Why This Role Matters

At ERM, sustainability is our business. As the world's largest pure-play sustainability consultancy, we help leading organizations solve complex sustainability challenges while identifying opportunities for growth, resilience, and long-term value creation.

As a Managing Consultant within our Sustainability Strategy and Transformation team, you will play a critical role in helping mining clients align sustainability, risk management, and commercial objectives. What Your Impact Is

In this role, you will:

  • Help mining clients connect sustainability to business value, enabling stronger performance, resilience, and long-term success.
  • Guide executive leadership teams in integrating sustainability, risk management, and value creation objectives into strategic decision-making.
  • Lead complex strategy, transformation, transaction, and risk advisory engagements across the mining sector.
  • Strengthen ERM's market presence by developing trusted client relationships and identifying opportunities for continued collaboration.
  • Influence investment decisions, project development strategies, and business transformation initiatives that shape the future of responsible mining.
  • Mentor and inspire multidisciplinary teams while fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • 4+ years of experience in management consulting, mining and metals, sustainability advisory, corporate strategy, project development, transactions, or a related field.
  • Experience delivering strategy, transformation, transaction, or risk advisory engagements within the mining and metals, and other industrial sectors.
  • Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, project financing, due diligence, corporate development, integration planning, or investment decisions.
  • Experience helping organizations translate sustainability commitments into actionable business strategies, transformation programs, and measurable performance outcomes.
  • Experience working with executive leadership teams to integrate sustainability, risk management, and value creation objectives into strategic decision-making.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex engagements, stakeholders, and project delivery.
  • Strong client relationship management, business development, and proposal development experience.
  • Strong understanding of ESG and sustainability issues facing the mining industry, including climate change, biodiversity, water stewardship, social performance, Indigenous engagement, human rights, mine closure, and responsible sourcing.
  • Proven ability to identify, assess, and manage sustainability, regulatory, operational, and stakeholder-related risks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize technical, commercial, environmental, and social information into clear business recommendations.
  • Excellent written, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with executives, boards, investors, regulators, communities, and project teams.
  • Familiarity with leading sustainability frameworks, ESG due diligence practices, and mining industry regulatory and permitting requirements.
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Mining Engineering, Business, Economics, Sustainability, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Experience within a leading consulting firm, mining company, investment organization, project developer, or advisory practice focused on sustainability, strategy, risk, or transactions.
  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting and voluntary frameworks, including ICMM Mining Principles, GRI, ISSB, TCFD, TNFD, IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, and leading ESG due diligence practices.
  • Experience supporting private equity, infrastructure, pension, streaming, or royalty investors with sustainability, technical, or transaction advisory services.
  • Understanding of strategic challenges facing the mining sector, including critical minerals, energy transition, decarbonization, nature-positive mining, water security, tailings governance, and changing stakeholder expectations.
  • Knowledge of mining industry regulatory frameworks, permitting processes, environmental assessment requirements, and emerging sustainability expectations across Canada and key mining jurisdictions.
  • Understanding of key mining sector trends, including critical minerals, energy transition, decarbonization, nature-positive mining, water security, and tailings governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and actively contribute to business development efforts in partnership with ERM Partners.
  • Build and strengthen client relationships that generate repeat business and expand ERM's presence in the sustainability advisory market.
  • Execute projects that connect sustainability to value creation, business transformation, risk management, and operational performance.
  • Collaborate effectively with ERM technical teams, partners, subcontractors, and subject matter experts to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support internal initiatives that enhance the effectiveness and growth of the Mining and Sustainability Strategy and Transformation team.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, ERM employees, vendors, and external stakeholders.
  • Lead, manage, mentor, inspire, hire, and retain high-performing team members.
  • Understand and apply ERM practices, policies, and business processes within project and client engagements.
