The Opportunity

Are you a strategic financial leader who knows how to turn complex financial information into clear business direction? AMA Insurance is looking for a Manager, Finance – Insurance Services to lead a team of finance professionals and provide the financial expertise, insight and guidance that support sound decision-making across the business.

Reporting to the Controller, you’ll oversee financial reporting, controls, forecasting and financial systems while working closely with leaders across Insurance Services. You’ll interpret financial results, identify trends and opportunities, strengthen processes and controls, and provide recommendations that contribute to the development and execution of our business strategies.

Just as importantly, you’ll lead and develop a team of accounting and finance professionals, creating an environment built on collaboration, accountability, continuous learning and exceptional service. The role currently has responsibility for Accounting Technicians I & II, Accountants I & II and a Financial Analyst.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Lead the preparation of accurate, complete and timely financial statements and management reporting, ensuring financial information is accurately recorded and adheres to IFRS and company policies and procedures.

• Coordinate the collection, consolidation and evaluation of financial information, conduct variance analysis and provide insights into financial results.

• Support period-end and ad hoc reporting and work with internal and external auditors in the performance of their duties.

• Develop and refine accounting controls, financial policies and procedures, and identify opportunities to strengthen controls and mitigate risk.

• Monitor financial performance, including revenue, expenses, capital expenditures and cash flow, and provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic plans and business decisions.

• Support budget development and lead the creation of financial forecasts for the areas you support.

• Identify business trends, issues and opportunities and provide recommendations based on your financial expertise and understanding of the business.

• Oversee account reconciliations, investigate errors and determine root causes while maintaining a strong understanding of financial systems, integrations and process flows.

• Identify financial system issues and improvement opportunities and represent Finance on technology and business improvement initiatives.

• Hire, train, coach and develop employees, supporting individual learning and career development while fostering a collaborative team environment aligned with AMA values.

• Partner closely with the Controller and leaders across Insurance Services, ensuring the Finance team delivers exceptional support to its internal business partners.

What You Bring to the Table

• Post-secondary degree, certificate or diploma in Accounting or Business.

• Professional accounting designation.

• Minimum seven years of accounting experience with progressive levels of responsibility.

• Preferably two to five years of supervisory experience.

• Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements, budgets and year-end working papers.

• Experience with computerized accounting systems.

• Experience working in a highly regulated industry; preference will be given to candidates with insurance experience.

• Strong communication, team-building and facilitation skills.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage changing priorities and collaborate with cross-functional groups.

• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
