Job Description - Application Engineer (Estimation & Proposals)
Job Responsibilities:
- Technical Solution: Select suitable products and prepare application concepts, specifications and material recommendations to meet customer requirements in HPI/CPI, steel, aluminium, power, cement and other high-temperature industries.
- Project & Site Support: Provide technical support for site surveys, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and failure analysis.
- Estimation & Costing: Prepare accurate BOM/MTO, material take-offs, quantity calculations and cost estimates for CF, refractory and thermal insulation projects.
- Tender Management: Review RFQs, tender documents and specifications, identify deviations/clarifications and prepare bid submissions within timelines
- Customer Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, conducting presentations and product demonstrations to showcase the benefits and applications of Alkegen’s materials.
- Market Analysis: Stay informed about industry trends, competitive products, and customer requirements to identify opportunities for product improvement and new applications.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with sales, procurement, manufacturing and engineering teams to obtain technical and commercial inputs for proposals.
- Customer/EPC Coordination: Respond to technical queries, prepare clarifications and participate in pre-bid and technical discussions with customers/EPCs.
- Cost Optimization: Identify alternative materials, design improvements and value-engineering opportunities to improve project competitiveness.
- Proposal Documentation: Maintain estimation databases, costing templates, technical documents and records of submitted proposals and awarded projects.
- Product Development: Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to assist in the development and optimization of new products based on customer feedback and market needs.
- Team Development: Mentor junior engineers, share technical knowledge and develop standard engineering tools and practices.
- Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, including application notes, specifications, and case studies to support customer engagement and product development.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- 8–12 years of relevant experience, preferably with at least 5 years in Ceramic Fibre, Refractory, thermal insulation or high-temperature applications.
- Experience in interpreting equipment drawings, specifications, RFQs and customer/EPC tender documents.
- Good understanding of Ceramic Fibre, refractory and thermal insulation products and their applications.
- Experience in preparing technical offers, compliance statements, deviations and technical clarifications.
- Good understanding of heat transfer, thermal conductivity, heat-loss calculations and insulation system design.
- Familiarity with API, ASTM, EIL and major EPC/customer specifications is desirable.
- Experience in HPI/CPI, steel, aluminium, power, cement or other process industries is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of materials properties and engineering principles related to product applications.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a customer-focused mindset.
- Proficient in technical documentation and software tools relevant to engineering and project management.
