We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer IV to focus on EverHealth’s revenue cycle management (RCM) platform. RCM is at the heart of how our customers get paid, and we are building a new generation of RCM tools that pair modern workflow software with AI agents to help billing teams work smarter, resolve issues faster, and collect more of what they’ve earned. This work is part of our broader focus on finding where automation, AI, and new experiences can make the biggest impact across the EverHealth portfolio.

As a Lead Software Engineer IV, you will be one of the hands-on technical leads on a small, nimble team building an AI-enabled RCM task-management platform end to end. Our initial focus spans the front-end task-driven user experience, the backend services and event-driven workflows behind it, the API layer that translates between our platform and the systems it connects to, and the code that invokes and coordinates AI agents working alongside our users.

This is a product engineering role. The right person cares as much about the problem as the technology: understanding how billing teams actually work, spending time with end users and business leaders in conjunction with our product and design partners, and shipping outcomes that measurably improve their day. You will help set technical direction, ship a lot of code, and raise the bar for the engineers around you, using AI throughout the development lifecycle to move quickly without cutting corners.

As the platform matures, the scope will grow with it, and you will have the opportunity to help shape where automation, AI, and new experiences can deliver the most value across our products.

Responsibilities: 

• Lead the design and delivery of a full-stack RCM worklist platform, from the user interface through backend services, APIs, and the data model 

• Build and evolve event-driven services and workflows that route, prioritize, and track work across people and AI agents 

• Design and maintain the API and translation layer that connects the platform with EverHealth products, our clearinghouse, and third-party systems 

• Build the application code that invokes, coordinates, and monitors AI agents, including guardrails, human review steps, and observability 

• Own data modeling and schema design, writing performant SQL and making effective use of ORMs 

• Partner directly with end users, product, operations, and business leaders to understand workflows, define problems, and measure outcomes 

• Share ownership of technical direction and engineering standards, and mentor engineers through code review, pairing, and design discussions 

• Champion AI-assisted development across planning, design, coding, testing, review, and operations 

• Build secure, reliable, HIPAA-compliant software backed by strong testing, monitoring, and operational practices 

• Help identify and evaluate new opportunities for automation, AI, and new experiences across the EverHealth portfolio 

Technology Environment: 

• Cloud Infrastructure: AWS 

• Languages: Python and JavaScript/TypeScript, or equivalent 

• Architectural Patterns: API-first services and event-driven architectures 

• Data Platforms: modern relational databases such as Postgres, MySQL, and MSSQL 

• AI: LLM and agent-based capabilities integrated into product workflows 

• Security & Compliance: HIPAA-compliant systems and secure healthcare data handling 

Skills and Experience needed for success in this role: 

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including leading technical direction for a team 

• Strong full-stack engineering skills in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or equivalent languages, with a track record of shipping production systems across UI, backend, and APIs 

• Experience designing and building event-based systems, such as message queues, event streams, and asynchronous workflows 

• Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with modern databases, ORMs, and schema design 

• Proficient and productive in leveraging AI across all aspects of the software development lifecycle 

• A product engineering mindset focused on solving problems and delivering outcomes, not just technology 

• Ability to collaborate effectively with non-technical stakeholders, including end users and business leaders, and translate their needs into working software 

• Comfort working on a small team with high ownership and an evolving scope 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills 

Nice to Have: 

• Experience integrating LLMs or AI agents into production software, including orchestration, evaluation, and human-in-the-loop workflows 

• Healthcare/RCM experience, such as claims, EDI 837/835, eligibility, denial and A/R workflows, and HIPAA 

Where: The EverCommerce team is distributed globally, with teams in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., New Zealand, and Australia. With a widely distributed team, we are used to working remotely across different time zones. This role can be based anywhere in the United States. Candidates based in the Chicago area will work hybrid, meeting with the team in person 1–2 days per week. Candidates elsewhere in the U.S. will work remotely. Please note that you must be eligible to work without sponsorship to qualify for this position, and this role may require travel to our Corporate Headquarters in Denver, Colorado, or to other office locations around North America.

Compensation: The target base compensation for this position is $170,000 to $195,000 USD per year in most US locations. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including location, local market variances, and candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
