About this roll* (Responsibilities)
As an SE3, you aren't just a contributor; you’re a key ingredient in our technical leadership. You will:
- Drive the end-to-end delivery of complex features, from initial technical design and "proof of concept" to global rollout.
- Champion best practices for Android development, ensuring our CI/CD pipelines and testing cultures are top-tier.
- Partner closely with UX and PM to slice through ambiguity and find the most efficient ways to deliver user value.
- Act as a technical leader for more junior engineers, conducting thoughtful code reviews and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
Do you have the right ingredients?* (Requirements)
- Typically 5+ years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of shipping high-impact native Android apps.
- Deep knowledge of the Android SDK, Kotlin, and modern architectural patterns (MVVM, MVI).
- Experience working with backend technologies like GraphQL and Kotlin microservices (expect 70/30 between Android and backend).
- Experience with automated testing (Unit, Integration, and Espresso) in an agile environment.
- Excellent cross-team communication skills on complex technical topics.
- Passionate about technology and learning new things.

The Support R&D team is shaping how hundreds of thousands of restaurants get help — and how Toast's care organization delivers it. Our scope spans three interconnected domains: the self-serve experiences customers use to understand their accounts, find answers, and resolve issues independently; the tools that empower Toast's human care agents to deliver fast, accurate, high-quality support via phone, chat, and email; and the AI-powered systems that deliver support directly — through chat and voice — at scale.
This is a high-leverage, high-visibility domain at the intersection of product, support operations, and AI. The systems we build connect deep customer context — accounts, devices, subscriptions, billing, cases — with intelligent knowledge retrieval, omnichannel support infrastructure, and increasingly capable AI. Our work directly influences deflection rates, resolution speed, customer effort, and the overall quality of the Toast support experience.
As our Senior Product Manager, Support AI Experimentation, you sit at the front edge of that work — operating as our dedicated scout and experimentation lead for AI-driven support concepts. While partner teams own the infrastructure and scale-out, you own the question that comes before all of that: what should we actually try? This role is for someone who can't stop thinking about what's next in AI, who has strong opinions about what's hype versus signal, and who gets genuine energy from turning a "what if" into a fast, scrappy experiment with a clear answer.
About this roll* (Responsibilities)
- Scout the AI landscape continuously — new models, tools, agents, retrieval approaches, voice systems — and rapidly develop sharp POVs on what Toast's support organization should be testing and why.
- Design and run lightweight experiments to pressure-test AI-driven support concepts before they're ready for infrastructure investment, moving from hypothesis to results without waiting for perfect conditions.
- Make go/no-go calls on exploration threads with clarity and conviction, synthesizing experimental findings into crisp recommendations that partner teams can act on.
- Own and actively manage a shifting experimentation roadmap, knowing when to pursue a new thread, when to double down on early signal, and when to kill something that isn't working.
- Translate findings into business-relevant outcomes — connecting experiment results to deflection rates, resolution speed, customer effort, and care team efficiency — so stakeholders understand what's at stake.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, data science, support operations, and platform teams to hand off proven concepts and ensure experimentation outputs land in production.
Do you have the right ingredients*?
- You are genuinely AI-native: you follow model releases, you experiment with new tools on your own time, you have real opinions about what's useful versus overhyped, and you get excited when someone says "have you seen what this new model can do?" — this is not optional, it is the core of the role.
- 5+ years of product management experience, with meaningful time spent on AI or ML-powered products in production; bonus if that includes conversational AI, support tooling, or customer-facing automation.
- Demonstrated ability to run fast, scrappy experiments — you know how to get to a meaningful result without waiting for perfect infrastructure, and you know how to read the signal clearly when you get there.
- Strong judgment about which ideas are worth pursuing: you can articulate why a particular AI approach is worth Toast's time, and you can say no (and explain why) just as confidently as you say yes.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity with a shifting portfolio — you don't need a stable roadmap handed to you, and you thrive when the work evolves quickly as the technology does.
- Able to connect experimental work to business outcomes and communicate findings credibly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, from engineering partners to support operations leadership.
- Experience working across team boundaries to hand off proven concepts — you know how to set a partner team up for success and don't need to own the build to feel ownership over the outcome.

A Day in the Life (Responsibilities):
- Lead go-to-market strategy, launch processes, and stakeholder management, and influence product development for new Enterprise-focused products, features and services
- Serve as market and sector expert on the needs of Enterprise restaurant, hotel, entertainment and institutional foodservice organizations
- Partner with Enterprise Product and Finance teams to develop initiatives to drive efficient product adoption and ARPU growth

What you’ll need to thrive (Requirements):
- 5+ years of combined experience in product marketing, product management, operational roles, finance, sales or strategy consulting.

Payments Pricing & Operations Team:
The Toast Payments Pricing & Operations team plays a pivotal role in the financial success of Toast by determining competitive and transparent payments pricing strategies for our largest customers. A day in the life (Responsibilities)
- Lead and manage a team of analysts responsible for custom payments pricing analyses, operations and project management
- Lead key prospect and customer negotiations in partnership with Sales and Customer Success teams
- Deliver a best-in-class payments experience to Toast customers and prospects through successful communication and SLA accountability
- Become a subject matter expert regarding Toast’s payment solutions, deeply understand the payments value proposition, and how Toast Payments specifically meets customer needs
- Understand all of Toast Payments’s processes and procedures, constantly improving them to gain greater efficiency and accuracy
- Report and analyze on our customer base to identify trends and help drive future recommendations
- Serve as an escalation and enablement point as needed for Sales, Customer Success and R&D
What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or 6+ years of experience in the Payments industry (e.g., Relationship Management, Pricing, Analytics, or related fields)
- Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to confidently navigate payments pricing conversations with both prospective and existing customers via email and Zoom
- Deep financial and analytical capabilities
- Metric driven and operationally minded
- Must have experience directly managing a team, including responsibility for performance reviews, hiring, and professional development

About This Role
We are building the Customer Experience Platform that will define how Toast engages, supports, and grows customers at scale.
As a Senior Principal Engineer for GTM Experiences, you will serve as the LOB-level technical leader responsible for defining and driving the multi-year strategy that shapes how Toast delivers experiences across onboarding, support, and product-led growth. You will translate business strategy into coherent technical direction, align engineering investments with measurable customer and operational outcomes, and guide the architectural evolution to create a seamless customer journey.
This role extends beyond ownership of individual systems or services. A day in the life (Responsibilities)
- Own and execute key compliance management processes to monitor and ensure compliance with network and regulatory requirements across Toast Retail and Payments products
- Proactively manage and communicate status, risks, and next steps across multiple workstreams, ensuring stakeholders are informed without requiring prompting
- Assist in tracking and assessing new and changing regulations across Payments and Retail, including card network rules, data security standards, consumer protection laws, and emerging payment technologies; escalate potential concerns and support mitigation strategies

As the Director of Engineering for Retail, you will be the primary technical owner of Toast’s highest-growth business unit - a $50M+ "startup" currently doubling year-over-year.

- Deploy Autonomous Systems: Lead the move from manual and labor-intensive inventory management to AI-driven autonomous systems, saving hours of time and unlocking new operational efficiencies for thousands of customers
- Raise Talent Density: Uplevel the engineering organization by identifying and attracting top-tier talent and coaching existing managers to operate as high-autonomy owners
- Own the Outcome: Partner with Product and Design to drive the P&L of the Retail business, managing the immediate delivery of the Retail POS and Purchasing & Receiving squads while developing a long-term strategy for the Grocery persona

The Customer Success Data and Analytics (CSDA) team supports Care Operations, Customer Success, Education, and Voice of the Customer. We are building a new generation of data products that extract structured, actionable insight from unstructured customer interactions using NLP, ML, and LLM-based approaches.
As the Principal Data Product Manager, Applied AI, you will own the agenda for how AI-enriched data improves our understanding of the customer experience. You will prototype, validate, and scale a portfolio of AI-powered data products that give our CS organization insight it has never had before. - Build and maintain dbt models that transform raw CS source data from systems like Salesforce, Five9, Intercom, NICE, and LevelAI into clean, analytics-ready datasets across CS domains including Customer 360, case management, omnichannel interactions, and agent performance.
- Design and own the semantic and metrics layer for CS KPIs including customer health scores, CSAT, case resolution rates, handle time, and retention signals, ensuring consistent definitions across all reporting surfaces.
- Partner with CS analysts and business stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into reusable, well-documented data models.
- Implement data testing, validation, and observability frameworks to ensure CS data assets are reliable and trustworthy at all times.
- Contribute to self-service analytics enablement by building datasets and semantic models in Snowflake and Sigma/Hex that allow CS analysts and operations leaders to answer questions independently.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers to ensure upstream pipeline outputs are modeled correctly and fit for purpose for analytics use cases.

Our Tech Stack
Our products run on a stack that ranges from guest and restaurant-facing Android tablets, to backend Kotlin and Java services, to internal, guest-facing, and restaurant-facing web apps. Our backend services follow a microservice architecture written using Kotlin/Java and DropWizard; we use AWS extensively, ranging from DynamoDB to RDS to Lambda. We have our own platform for dealing with user management, canary deployments, and robust load balancing. We store data in a set of sharded Postgres databases and utilize Apache Spark for large scale data workloads including query and batch processing. The web front-end is built using React and ES6. Our main point of sale application is an Android application written in Java and Kotlin. For data between tablets and our cloud platform, we rely on Pulsar event driven architecture along with some RabbitMQ clusters as well as direct tablet communication to the back end.

As the Manager of Device Testing and Automation, you will be the guardian of hardware quality at Toast. What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)
- Proven Leadership: 5+ years of experience managing QA teams with a dedicated focus on device-specific testing and automation within the hardware or embedded systems space.
- SDLC Expertise: A strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and the ability to define appropriate validation strategies at key phases of the process.
- Strategic Risk Management: Sound judgment in defining quality gates and optimizing test coverage. You can strike a balance between maintaining a high quality bar and driving release efficiency by tailoring test execution to the scope and impact of specific changes.
- Android Device Testing: Experience testing Android-based hardware, including familiarity with ADB-based operations.
- Automation Toolset: Familiarity with overseeing or implementing automation using Robot Framework, UIAutomator, Python, or equivalent technologies.
- Change Management: Proven ability to lead a team through a technical "journey"— transitioning from traditional hardware validation to automation-heavy workflows without disrupting ongoing operations.

This team will explore voice capabilities across front-of-house (guest ordering, service interactions, POS assistance) and back-of-house (kitchen coordination, hands-free workflows, inventory signals). As the Principal Product Manager — Voice AI (In-Store) on the Commerce Platform, you’ll define strategy, evaluate vendors and partners, run zero→one discovery and pilots in real restaurants, and lead commercialization — creating a reusable voice platform that powers multiple use cases across the restaurant.
A day in the life (Responsibilities)
- Define vision & portfolio strategy. Own the long-term vision and multi-quarter roadmap for in-store voice AI and the platform that enables multiple use cases across FOH/BOH. Balance short-term pilots with long-term platform investments.
- Run vendor & technical evaluation. Lead technical evaluation of voice and AI vendors (ASR, NLU, TTS, edge inference, on-device options) and create benchmarking frameworks for accuracy, latency, privacy, and cost.
- Lead commercial conversations. Drive vendor commercial discussions (pricing models, licensing, SLAs) and surface negotiation points — partnering with Procurement and Legal who finalize contracts and budget approvals.
- Drive zero → one discovery and pilots. Plan and execute discovery, rapid prototyping, and in-restaurant pilots; iterate based on operational feedback and scale successful experiments.
- Design a reusable voice platform. Define APIs, integration patterns, data flows, and tooling that make voice capabilities reusable across guest experiences, staff workflows, and integrations with POS, kitchen systems, and telemetry services.
- Lead GTM & commercialization. Define pricing, packaging, and go-to-market strategy with Product Marketing, Sales, and Operations; identify commercial models that fit restaurants of different sizes.
- Coordinate cross-functional delivery. Align Engineering, Hardware Ops, Reliability, Security, Data, Research, Design, Care/Onboarding, and GTM partners to de-risk delivery and adoption.
- Drive operational readiness & reliability. Define operational playbooks, observability, edge/online failover modes, and post-launch monitoring to ensure reliable in-store behavior and low support cost.

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)
- AI product delivery experience. ~8+ years shipping complex software products with demonstrated ownership of multi-team programs or a major product portfolio, and experience delivering AI-enabled features or products.
- AI Model Evaluation. Hands-on experience defining and owning AI model evaluation (examples: WER/CER, intent accuracy, wake-word false accept/reject, latency, completion/task success), building continuous evaluation and model ops processes (drift detection, automated regression tests, A/B testing, rollback/mitigation playbooks), and partnering with ML teams to run experiments and error analysis.
- Zero → one experience. Proven track record taking a product from discovery through prototype and pilot to scale.
- Vendor evaluation & commercial acumen. Hands-on experience evaluating AI/voice vendors and participating in vendor commercial conversations (note: Procurement/Legal finalize contracts).
