Spanning many disciplines, we work to make the business work; creating the infrastructure, tooling, frameworks, and capabilities needed to welcome a billion customers.
Backstage was created at Spotify and has grown into a leading SaaS and open source platform for developer portals. Thousands of companies use Backstage to bring structure to complex microservices environments, improve developer experience, and ship high-quality software faster — including in the age of AI — without losing autonomy or control.
This role leads sales for Shipping Our Expertise (SOE), Spotify's B2B SaaS business built on our platform capabilities. Our flagship products — Backstage Portal and Confidence — are AI-first and built to support both human developers and automated systems. Everything we bring to market is battle-tested at Spotify scale, giving our customers confidence that our solutions work in the most complex R&D environments.

The Platform team creates the technology that enables Spotify to learn quickly and scale easily, enabling rapid growth in our users and our business around the globe. Spanning many disciplines, we work to make the business work; creating the infrastructure, tooling, frameworks, and capabilities needed to welcome a billion customers.
What if the systems you built changed how millions of developers work, not just at Spotify, but across the industry? The Platform Developer Experience (PDX) team builds the infrastructure and internal products that power how Spotify engineers ship software. Within PDX, the Platform Infrastructure team is building the next generation of cloud and compute foundations that power our internal developer platform and the AI agents running on top of it, and help bring those capabilities to market through Portal, Spotify's external developer platform built on Backstage.
You'll join the Platform Infrastructure team within the Platform Developer Experience (PDX) studio. The team owns the cloud foundations, security posture, and developer tooling that the rest of Platform, and ultimately all of Spotify R&D, depends on. You'll lead a team working at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, platform security, and developer experience.
Lead and grow a team of AI-native engineers responsible for Platform’s multi-cloud foundation across GCP and AWS, our security posture, and the developer platform that thousands of Spotify engineers depend on every day.
Define the technical vision for our cloud platform, and make the architectural calls that shape how the rest of R&D builds, ships, and operates.
Own the security and compliance posture of the developer platform end-to-end, ensuring secure-by-default outcomes for every team building on top of us.
Drive the evolution of our developer tooling stack (CI/CD, build systems, deployment, observability) so engineers ship safely and quickly along golden paths instead of bespoke setups.
Bring AI-native capabilities into platform operations, integrating LLM and agent-based automation into infrastructure changes, security remediation, and developer workflows.
Partner with product, go-to-market, and engineering teams to bring our capabilities to market, shaping how the broader industry manages cloud, security, and tooling on top of Portal.
Set and enforce production-grade standards for reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency across services operating at Spotify scale.
Build a team culture grounded in curiosity, technical rigor, and continuous learning in emerging AI systems.
You have 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams working on cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or developer tooling at scale.
You have 5+ years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience, with deep expertise in cloud platforms (GCP, AWS).
You have a strong grounding in platform security: IAM, secrets management, vulnerability and patch management, and supply chain security.
You have solid command of modern developer tooling (CI/CD, build systems, deployment patterns, observability) and an opinion on what makes platform self-service actually work at scale.
You have a track record of designing and operating distributed systems where reliability, cost, and security trade-offs are first-class concerns.
You're familiar with AI and LLM-based systems, and you have a point of view on how agents and automation can be responsibly applied to infrastructure operations.
You communicate clearly across engineers, product, security, and executive stakeholders, explaining complex trade-offs and earning alignment without losing nuance.
You create inclusive environments where diverse perspectives strengthen technical and product decisions.
You actively seek feedback and invest in growing yourself and your team.
We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be within the North Americas region as long as we have a work location.
This team operates within the Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration.

UI Studio is Spotify’s internal generative UI prototyping platform that enables teams to spin up fully functioning replicas of Spotify surfaces — complete with playable music — to explore and pitch new product ideas. What started as a small internal project has evolved into a widely adopted platform, and we’re now expanding it into a full generative UI system where teams can prompt for the interfaces they need.
As part of Spotify’s Platform mission, we build the technology that enables Spotify to learn quickly and scale easily — creating the infrastructure, tooling, frameworks, and capabilities needed to support our global business and millions of creators and fans.
We’re looking for a Senior Fullstack Engineer who is genuinely fullstack — strong across backend systems and confident building high-quality frontend experiences — to help scale the platform’s architecture and AI-native capabilities. You’ll shape core technical decisions, lead complex initiatives end-to-end, and elevate engineering standards across the team.
Design and deliver fullstack features that power UI Studio’s generative platform capabilities
Architect and implement scalable services and user-facing workflows across frontend (Typescript/Node.js) and backend (Node.js & Java)
Lead the integration of LLM-powered coding agents into product workflows, including tool use, planning loops, evaluation loops, and multi-step orchestration
Drive search and retrieval architecture, including vector-based search systems, indexing strategies, and relevance optimization
Design, ship, and operate distributed systems deployed via containerized infrastructure (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
Take end-to-end ownership of complex systems and features, from technical design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and operational excellence
Improve internal APIs, platform primitives, and developer tooling to create intuitive, scalable platform experiences
Partner closely with product, design, QA, and fellow engineers to deliver high-impact AI-native capabilities used across Spotify
You have 7+ years of experience building and operating production systems, with deep experience in TypeScript, Node.js and Java
You are comfortable contributing across the full stack and care about delivering polished, intuitive frontend experiences
You have experience building or integrating LLM-powered systems, including agent workflows, tool integrations, and multi-step orchestration
You understand search and retrieval patterns such as vector search systems, Elasticsearch, and indexing strategies
You have designed and operated distributed systems in cloud environments and deployed services using containerized tooling such as Docker and Kubernetes
You think in systems, considering scalability, observability, reliability, and long-term maintainability in your designs
You can independently lead well-scoped initiatives and provide technical guidance to other engineers
You communicate clearly in writing and produce thoughtful technical documentation
You care about raising the engineering bar and contributing to a collaborative, inclusive team culture
This role is based in Toronto
We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home.
