Position Overview

We are seeking a Payload Operations Engineer responsible for operating AST satellite payload subsystems to support constellation service and in-orbit testing. This is primarily a day-staff shift position at the AST Satellite Operations Centers (SOCs), with occasional weekend, holiday, and on-call support to provide 24x7 payload operations.

Key Responsibilities

Payload Operations & Monitoring

• Operate payload tools to create configuration items required for in-orbit testing (IOT) and commercial service.

• Monitor service/test automation and analyze results through telemetry and log evaluation.

• Coordinate payload system configuration changes to maintain commercial service levels.

• Monitor and process payload subsystem telemetry data to ensure subsystem health, including power, thermal, and RF performance.

• Maintain situational awareness of satellite, payload, and ground configuration and status.

Tool & Software Support

• Support development of payload operations tools for efficient automated tasks.

• Work with tool developers for functionality updates and payload software updates.

• Operate SOC operations software tools.

• Support development of automated operations tools.

Coordination & Troubleshooting

• Coordinate troubleshooting with SOC, Network Operations Center (NOC), and subsystem engineers to resolve service issues.

• Participate in daily shift handover briefings.

• Support mission product development including procedure development, testing, and validation.

• Support system readiness, planning, and preparation for satellite in-orbit milestones.

• Attend required training sessions, simulations, rehearsals, conferences, and program reviews.

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM field).

Experience:

• A minimum of 0–2 years (or equivalent experience); Master’s degree or additional experience preferred.

• Technical understanding of satellite system architecture and subsystem functionality.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently in an evolving system environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with satellite communication payloads.

• Multi-satellite LEO constellation experience.

• Demonstrated ability to drive requirements for concepts of operation.

• Familiarity with version control software (preferably Git) and Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence).

• Programming experience in at least one modern language such as Java, Python, Matlab, or C#.

What You'll Do:

Machine Operation & Setup

• Operate 5-axis CNC machines to manufacture complex aerospace components with tight tolerances
• Perform complete machine setups, including tooling, fixtures, offsets, and workholding
• Load, verify, and adjust CNC programs to ensure accuracy and efficiency

Production & Quality

• Conduct routine preventative maintenance (coolant checks, lubrication, cleaning)

Collaboration & Documentation

• Partner with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve technical issues

In this role, you will design, deploy, and operate cloud and hybrid infrastructure, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, and take ownership of running third-party vendor software in our environment. Compensation & Schedule

• Pay: DOE based on experience, with overtime opportunities. Higher-level roles are available for more experienced candidates at increased pay.
• Schedule: Standard shift is Monday–Thursday, 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM (4x10) with paid lunch and breaks.

Position Summary

The Flight Assurance Administrative Specialist provides essential administrative and operational support to the Flight Assurance Engineering team. This role is responsible for collecting, organizing, and managing compliance evidence, coordinating audit activities, maintaining lien registers, and ensuring the smooth flow of documentation across all flight assurance processes. This is an onsite position is based in Midland, TX and operates in a dynamic, safety-critical environment and requires the flexibility to work across rotating day, night, and weekend shifts.

Key Responsibilities

Evidence Collection & Documentation

• Collect, organize, and file compliance evidence packages in support of Flight Assurance Engineers.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date document control logs and version histories.
• Ensure all evidence materials meet required formats, completeness standards, and submission deadlines.

Audit Support

• Coordinate logistics for internal and external audits, including scheduling, room setup, and material preparation.
• Assist engineers in compiling audit packages and tracking action items to closure.
• Maintain audit calendars and send timely reminders to relevant stakeholders.

Lien Management

• Consolidate and maintain the master Lien Register, ensuring entries are accurate, current, and properly categorized.
• Track lien resolution status and escalate overdue items to the appropriate engineering leads.
• Generate regular lien summary reports for team review meetings.

General Administrative Support

• Prepare meeting agendas, capture minutes, and distribute action items following team meetings.
• Support data entry and spreadsheet management using MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

AST SpaceMobile is hiring part-time AI Quality Technician Labeler in Midland, TX to label imagery of spacecraft components, sub-assemblies, and factory-floor assembly steps used to train AST’s computer-vision and robotics AI models.

 Working on-site in the AI Lab, you will use AST’s in-house labeling software to draw bounding boxes, polygons, and segmentation masks; classify components and defects; and follow detailed labeling guidelines defined by AST’s data scientists and manufacturing quality engineers. AST SpaceMobile is seeking an AI Data Operations Manager based in Midland, TX to operate, secure, and run the day-to-day operations of the on-site AI Lab supporting the AI & Autonomy division. You will be the single point of accountability for the lab’s physical security, IT and server infrastructure, and the part-time image-labeling workforce that produces the labeled datasets feeding our computer-vision and robotics models. You will enforce strict lab access and information-security rules — no personal phones, photography, personal electronics, or removable storage media inside the lab — and ensure all workstations, GPU servers, storage, and network equipment are properly maintained, patched, and locked down.

The Flight Assurance Engineer will independently execute mechanisms-specific flight assurance processes and practices to ensure product reliability, compliance, and quality throughout the lifecycle of flight mechanisms and mechanical assemblies. This role owns design, manufacturing, test, and integration related assurance activities to ensure the safety, functionality, and performance of flight hardware with limited supervision. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Own and execute flight assurance methods, plans, and processes across the full mechanisms development and production lifecycle — encompassing design, manufacturing, assembly, test, and integration — while supporting program schedule and cost objectives and meeting quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. 

• Conduct independent inspections at defined hold points across assembly, test, and integration for high-complexity mechanisms. Define, maintain, and enforce witness point classifications for all mechanisms through their full product lifecycle. 

• Review and approve assembly work instructions and test procedures before execution across functional and environmental test campaigns. Track qualification and verification of mechanisms through rigorous assurance processes including test readiness review, TVAC and life test witnessing, and test completion sign-off.

• Own the nonconformance register from origination through root cause corrective action verification on subsequent hardware. Lead root cause investigations for mechanisms anomalies across design, manufacturing, and test phases. 

• Prepare and maintain detailed assurance documentation including assurance plans, risk mitigation strategies, nonconformance dispositions, waiver and deviation packages, and compliance reports. 

• Conduct or coordinate vendor surveillance activities for flight-critical mechanism suppliers including review of build records and acceptance test data prior to receiving inspection. 

• Track in-family data trends across the mechanisms fleet and spacecraft production line. Participate in anomaly reviews and own corrective action tracking to verified closure.

The Lead Data Engineer will design, build, and operate scalable, production‑grade data pipelines and analytical infrastructure to ensure high‑quality; reliable data is consistently available across global planning and operational workflows. This role defines how operational, network, and business data is ingested, modeled, governed, and consumed—transforming complex, heterogeneous datasets into trusted, decision‑ready analytics assets. 

While this position does not include people management, it carries significant technical ownership and influence. The Lead Data Engineer drives architectural strategy, establishes engineering best practices, and mentors analytics professionals to elevate data engineering maturity across the organization. 

 Success in this role is measured by enabling fast, confident, and consistent data‑driven decision‑making—not platform uptime alone. The focus is on delivering durable analytics foundations that support insight, alignment, and execution at scale 

Key Responsibilities 

Data Architecture & Platform Ownership 

• Own the end‑to‑end analytics data architecture, including ingestion, modeling, governance, and consumption patterns. 

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable data pipelines supporting forecasting, network planning, and operational analytics. 

• Establish and operate a lakehouse‑style architecture (raw → normalized → curated). 
• Integrate diverse, complex operational and telemetry data sources into unified analytical and semantic models. 

Analytics Enablement & Decision Systems 

• Translate ambiguous business needs into durable data products, including curated datasets, semantic layers, and standardized KPIs. 

• Define KPI frameworks with consistent definitions, calculations, and refresh logic across teams. 

• Enable self‑service analytics by delivering trusted, well‑documented, discoverable datasets for BI and advanced analytics. 

  Data Quality, Reliability & Governance 

• Implement automated validation, monitoring, and freshness checks across critical pipelines. 

• Identify and resolve systemic data issues proactively, ensuring uninterrupted operational insights. 

• Design schemas and pipelines with governance needs in mind, including lineage, auditability, and certification. 

  Technical Leadership & Standards 

• Serve as the technical authority for analytics engineering and own architectural decisions. 

• Establish and enforce engineering best practices, including testing, version control, documentation, and modular SQL/Python patterns. 

• Mentor analysts and engineers to raise the quality and reliability of data products. 

• Capture metadata and ownership for scalable governance and enterprise cataloging. 

  Qualifications 

Education 

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, information systems, or a related technical field required. 

• Master’s degree preferred but not required. 

  Experience 

• A minimum of 7–10 years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or related fields. 

• Proven experience designing and operating production‑grade data systems at scale. 

  Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience in telecom, satellite networks, IoT, or other high‑volume telemetry data environments. 

• Familiarity with predictive analytics, forecasting workflows, or ML‑driven feature pipelines. 

• Hands‑on experience implementing data quality frameworks, metadata systems, or data lineage tooling. 

• Experience supporting enterprise analytics on a global scale.

Position Overview

The Environmental Test Technician I supports execution of environmental testing activities including thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, and acoustic testing. This role operates under general supervision while performing test setup, execution, and documentation. The Technician I is expected to have foundational hands-on experience and the ability to execute standard tests with guidance, while continuing to build technical depth and troubleshooting capability.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform environmental testing including thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, acoustic, and related tests with guidance as needed
• Set up and operate test equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems following established procedures
• Execute test plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs) with attention to detail and accuracy
• Assist with test configuration, fixturing, and instrumentation installation
• Monitor tests and accurately record data; identify and report anomalies or deviations
• Troubleshoot routine test issues and escalate more complex problems as needed
• Document test results, observations, and non-conformances in accordance with quality standards
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality requirements
• Support equipment upkeep, basic maintenance, and calibration activities
• Collaborate with technicians and engineers to support successful test execution
• Maintain organized work areas and test documentation

Qualifications

Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of relevant hands-on technical experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to environmental test methods (thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, acoustic)
• Basic familiarity with test instrumentation and data acquisition systems
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and test procedures
