Job Description – Sr. Specialist – Workday Development

Job Description Summary

We are looking for a Sr. Specialist – Workday Development to enhance, support, and evolve AT&T’s established Workday HCM platform. The platform supports critical HR integrations, workflows, applications, reporting, and automation capabilities across AT&T’s HR ecosystem.

This is a hands-on Individual Contributor role focused on designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting complex Workday integrations and solutions. The role requires strong technical expertise across Workday Studio, Workday Extend, Workday Orchestrator, EIB, RaaS, Workday Web Services, APIs, and related integration technologies.

The ideal candidate will independently own complex development deliverables, collaborate closely with functional and technical teams, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute to engineering best practices and continuous improvement of the Workday platform.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support Workday integrations, extensions, and automation solutions across multiple HCM modules.
• Translate business and functional requirements into techno-functional and technical design specifications and develop robust, scalable, and maintainable Workday solutions.
• Develop complex integrations and solutions using Workday Studio, Workday Extend, Workday Orchestrator, EIB, RaaS, Custom Reports, and Workday Web Services.
• Build and maintain API and Web Service-based integrations between Workday and enterprise systems such as Payroll, Recruiting, Benefits, and other internal and external platforms.
• Independently own complex development assignments from requirements analysis and technical design through implementation and production support.
• Partner with business analysts, functional teams, module leads, technical teams, and external vendors to ensure seamless integration and data synchronization.
• Perform unit, system, integration, and regression testing and ensure solutions meet functional and technical requirements prior to production deployment.
• Troubleshoot complex integration and production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable fixes.
• Monitor and optimize existing integrations to improve performance, reliability, error handling, and operational efficiency.
• Participate in technical design reviews and code reviews and ensure adherence to established development standards and best practices.
• Participate in Workday Release Management, including impact analysis, regression testing, evaluation of new capabilities, and adoption of relevant Workday features.
• Collaborate with functional teams to ensure technical solutions align with business processes across HR, Payroll, Compensation, Recruiting, Benefits, and related domains.
• Identify opportunities to simplify existing solutions, automate manual activities, improve maintainability, and reduce technical debt.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, integration specifications, operational procedures, and support documentation.
• Contribute to reusable components, development standards, knowledge sharing, and engineering best practices across the Workday development team.
• Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to other developers when required.

Key Competencies and Skills

• 10+ years of overall technology experience, with a minimum of 6+ years of relevant hands-on experience in Workday HCM development and integrations.
• Strong hands-on expertise with Workday Studio, EIB, RaaS, Workday Web Services, XSLT/XPath, Workday Orchestrator, and Workday Extend.
• Experience developing and supporting REST/SOAP API and Web Service-based integrations using JSON, XML, and related technologies.
• Strong understanding of Workday Security, Business Process Framework, Custom Reports, and Calculated Fields.
• Experience working across multiple Workday modules such as US Payroll, Advanced Compensation, Core HCM, Recruiting, Benefits, and Talent.
• Strong understanding of enterprise integration concepts, APIs, data transformation, security, error handling, and performance considerations.
• Ability to independently design and deliver complex Workday integrations and technical solutions.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues across Workday and integrated systems.
• Experience with performance tuning, exception handling, monitoring, and production support of enterprise integrations.
• Understanding of development standards, code review practices, reusable integration patterns, and software engineering best practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate and document technical designs and solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within global and cross-functional teams.

Education & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience: 10+ years of overall technology experience, including 6+ years of relevant hands-on Workday HCM development and integration experience.
• Role Model: Individual Contributor, responsible for independently delivering complex Workday development, integration, automation, troubleshooting, and production support activities.
• Supervisory: No direct reports.

Work Environment

• Flexible hybrid work model with collaboration across global technology and business teams.
• Expected to work in the 1 PM – 10 PM IST shift to maintain effective overlap with U.S. business and technology teams.
