Role Summary
As a senior technology leader within Vanguard Technology, you will be responsible for defining and executing technology strategies that enable business growth, operational excellence and customer value. You will oversee teams responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing and supporting enterprise technology solutions across multiple product and engineering domains.
This role exists to ensure Vanguard continues to build scalable, resilient and innovative technology capabilities while accelerating delivery and strengthening engineering maturity. You will influence strategic technology direction, drive organisational effectiveness and create an environment where teams are empowered to innovate, collaborate and deliver meaningful outcomes.
Success in this role requires strong leadership across technology, people, delivery, finance and stakeholder management. You will be expected to lead through transformation, develop future leaders and establish modern engineering practices that support Vanguard's evolving technology landscape.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for technology delivery across multiple engineering, platform and product domains, ensuring alignment with business objectives and long-term technology strategy.
- Lead teams responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing and supporting enterprise technology products and services.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to define priorities, shape technology demand and execute strategic roadmaps that drive business outcomes.
- Develop and implement workforce, operating and organisational growth plans that support business expansion and long-term capability development.
- Hire, coach, mentor and develop technology professionals and leaders while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Establish and optimise operating models, governance frameworks and delivery processes that improve organisational effectiveness and execution excellence.
- Oversee planning, prioritisation, resource allocation and execution of complex technology initiatives and portfolios.
- Drive engineering transformation through adoption of modern software development practices, automation, platform engineering and AI-enabled delivery capabilities.
- Monitor delivery performance, service metrics and operational effectiveness using data-driven insights to improve outcomes and decision making.
- Lead the evaluation, selection, implementation and integration of technology solutions, vendor platforms and third-party products.
- Manage departmental budgets, workforce investments and technology expenditures while ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with business leaders, technology partners, vendors and key stakeholders to enable successful business outcomes.
- Identify organisational, operational, technology and delivery risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Embed cybersecurity, resiliency, compliance and risk-management practices into technology solutions and engineering processes.
- Ensure adherence to information technology, cybersecurity and information security standards, policies and regulatory requirements.
- Lead quality and service-improvement initiatives that enhance engineering effectiveness, customer outcomes and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 12+ years of experience in technology delivery, software engineering, programme management or technology leadership roles.
- Minimum 5 years of experience leading managers, engineering teams or large-scale technology organisations.
- Proven experience leading enterprise software delivery and technology transformation initiatives within complex global or matrixed organisations.
- Strong experience in technology strategy, organisational scaling, workforce planning, stakeholder management and operational leadership.
- Experience managing large technology portfolios, budgets, investment planning and resource allocation.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating technology platforms, managing vendor relationships and leading build-versus-buy decisions.
- Strong understanding of software delivery methodologies, engineering best practices, governance frameworks and operational excellence.
- Experience incorporating cybersecurity, resiliency, compliance and risk management requirements into technology solutions and delivery processes.
- Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior business and technology leaders.
- Proven ability to lead through ambiguity, organisational change and rapid growth while maintaining delivery excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, Business Administration or a related field.
- Experience leading large-scale engineering organisations within financial services, asset management or other highly regulated industries.
- Experience driving enterprise-wide engineering transformation, cloud modernisation and platform engineering initiatives.
- Experience implementing automation, AI-enabled engineering practices and emerging technology solutions.
- Knowledge of enterprise architecture, cloud technologies, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and secure software development practices.
- Experience working within global capability centres or globally distributed technology organisations.
- Professional certifications related to cloud technologies, programme management, agile delivery, cybersecurity or enterprise architecture.
