Altera is seeking a Senior M365 Messaging Engineer to design, operate, and optimize the company's email and messaging infrastructure. This role ensures reliable and secure communication services through Exchange Online and related M365 messaging components, supporting the semiconductor company's global workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and optimize Exchange Online including mailbox management, transport rules, and mail flow configuration.
- Administer and manage internal SMTP servers
- Configure and maintain shared mailboxes, distribution groups, dynamic groups, and mail-enabled objects.
- Troubleshoot email delivery issues, NDRs, mail flow anomalies, and hybrid connectivity problems.
- Monitor messaging service health and perform proactive capacity and performance management.
- Implement and maintain DLP, retention policies, and compliance holds in Exchange Online.
- Manage email security services including anti-spam, anti-phishing, DKIM, DMARC, and SPF policies.
- Support email auditing, eDiscovery, and legal hold requirements in coordination with compliance teams.
The pay range below is for Bay Area California only. Actual salary may vary based on a number of factors including job location, job-related knowledge, skills, experiences, trainings, etc. We also offer incentive opportunities that reward employees based on individual and company performance.

Qualifications:
Required Skills
- Deep expertise in Exchange Online administration and mail flow management
- Strong knowledge of email security protocols including SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and MX configuration.
- Experience with Exchange hybrid configurations and migration from on-premises Exchange.
- Proficiency with M365 Admin Center, Exchange Admin Center, and PowerShell for bulk operations
- Knowledge of M365 compliance features including DLP, retention, and eDiscovery
- Experience troubleshooting complex mail flow and delivery issues
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator Associate or equivalent
Preferred Skills
- Experience with third-party email security gateways (Proofpoint, Mimecast, or Microsoft Defender for Office 365).
- Familiarity with email archiving platforms and compliance requirements in regulated industries.
- Knowledge of SMTP relay configuration for industrial or lab devices.
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or a related field
