Altera is seeking a Senior Endpoint Engineer specializing in Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) to design, deploy, and operate the company's virtual desktop infrastructure. This role enables secure and scalable remote access for engineering, corporate, and contingent workforce users, including GPU-enabled sessions for EDA and design workloads.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement Azure Virtual Desktop host pools, session desktops, and RemoteApp environments
• Manage AVD image lifecycle including master image creation, golden image updates, and application layering
• Configure FSLogix profile containers, Office containers, and user profile management strategies
• Implement AVD scaling plans, auto-scaling policies, and cost optimization configurations.
• Integrate AVD with Intune, Azure AD, Defender for Endpoint, and enterprise security controls
• Monitor AVD performance, user experience metrics, and resolve session and connectivity issues
• Collaborate with EDA and engineering teams to deliver optimized virtual desktop environments for design workloads
• Maintain AVD documentation, runbooks, and image management procedures

 

The pay range below is for Bay Area California only. Actual salary may vary based on a number of factors including job location, job-related knowledge, skills, experiences, trainings, etc. We also offer incentive opportunities that reward employees based on individual and company performance.

Qualifications:

Required Skills

• Hands-on experience deploying and managing Azure Virtual Desktop environments
• Strong knowledge of FSLogix profile management and Office container configuration
• Experience with AVD image management using Azure Image Builder or custom image pipelines
• Proficiency with Azure networking concepts including private endpoints, VNets, and ExpressRoute
• Knowledge of AVD security controls including Conditional Access and session host hardening
• Scripting skills in PowerShell and familiarity with Azure CLI or Terraform for AVD automation

 

Preferred Skills

• Experience delivering GPU-enabled AVD sessions for EDA or compute-intensive applications
• Familiarity with Citrix DaaS, VMware Horizon, or Amazon WorkSpaces as alternative VDI platforms
• Knowledge of Nerdio or equivalent AVD management platforms
• Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty certification or equivalent
• Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Cloud Computing, or a related field
