Job Description
This position conducts research on specific organizations, securities, financial products, and the broader economic environment. The role involves combining fundamental analysis with approved AI, advanced analytics, and alternative data to identify material patterns, test investment hypotheses, assess market implications, and develop forecasts. Area of focus may include Equities, Fixed Income, Quantitative Research, or ESG/SRI.
The incumbent analyzes equity securities of companies headquartered in emerging Asian markets and delivers strategic insights and recommendations to portfolio managers. It involves the use of AI-enabled workflows to accelerate data extraction, synthesis, scenario analysis, model maintenance, and research production, enabling greater focus on judgment and actionable conclusions. It also involves conducting research and preparing reports for both internal and external audiences.
Key Responsibilities / Duties
- Hong Kong and China research responsibilities, developing differentiated theses and a forward-looking research agenda.
- Conduct fundamental research using financial, operating, management, industry, and approved alternative data. Apply AI-assisted extraction, comparison, and anomaly detection while independently verifying sources and conclusions.
- Support Investment Directors and Fund Managers through robust financial and valuation models, model-portfolio and risk monitoring, and timely market updates. Use approved AI and automation to improve recurring workflows, with appropriate controls and audit trails.
- Identify macro, industry, and company trends; build scenarios; assess earnings, valuations, catalysts, and risks; and use AI-assisted analysis to challenge consensus.
- Conduct primary research through management meetings, industry engagement, and site visits. Use approved AI to prepare questions, organize notes, compare statements, and identify follow-ups, while independently assessing source credibility.
- Present concise, evidence-based views at weekly team and quarterly investment meetings, clearly stating assumptions, uncertainties, recommendations, and risks.
- Work closely with other team members to develop and enhance data management and analytics capabilities.
- Work effectively as part of the regional and global research team.
Work Experience / Knowledge:
- A minimum of 8 years’ buy/sell-side research experience.
- In-depth knowledge of Hong Kong and China equity markets.
- Knowledge of, or experience covering, the healthcare sector is preferred.
Skills / Other Personal Attributes Required:
- Excellent communication skills in both English and Mandarin.
- Articulate, professional, and proactive.
- Strong team player.
- Good analytical and critical-thinking skills
- Strong PC skills, with advanced digital fluency in financial modelling, data visualization, and approved AI and automation tools
- Highly ethical
Formal Education:
- University degree or higher in economics, finance, data science or related fields.
