The Opportunity
We are recruiting on behalf of an established and growing business seeking a talented Product Designer to join their close-knit design team in Peterborough.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a creative yet technically minded designer who enjoys turning ideas into reality. Working across the full product development lifecycle, you'll take concepts from initial brief through to CAD development, prototyping, testing and production.
The role offers a unique blend of product design, structural design, prototyping and design-for-manufacture, making it ideal for someone who enjoys being hands-on and seeing their ideas brought to life.
You'll collaborate closely with designers, project teams, suppliers and clients, helping to develop innovative, high-quality products while pushing the boundaries of materials, finishes and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop innovative product concepts from client briefs.
- Create and refine designs using 3D CAD software.
- Produce and evaluate physical prototypes using in-house prototyping equipment.
- Support projects from concept through to final production.
- Work directly with suppliers to ensure designs are manufacturable and commercially viable.
- Research new materials, finishes and production techniques.
- Present ideas and design solutions to internal stakeholders and clients.
- Utilise AI-assisted tools to support concept development and visualisation.
About You
You may already be working as a Product Designer, Industrial Designer, Packaging Designer or Design Engineer, and be looking for a role that offers greater variety, autonomy and exposure to the full design process. The Company are also open to see Graduates.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Degree-qualified in Product Design, Industrial Design or a related discipline.
- Strong Adobe Illustrator skills.
- Good working knowledge of SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
- Ability to sketch and communicate concepts effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Comfortable working within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Desirable
- Experience with 3D rendering software.
- Knowledge of 3D printing and prototyping techniques.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacture principles.
- Exposure to AI design tools and visualisation software.
- Industry placement or commercial product design experience.
Why Apply?
This role would suit someone who enjoys the technical side of design as much as the creative side. You'll be given the freedom to contribute ideas, influence projects from start to finish and work within a supportive team where your voice is heard.
Whether you're an early-career designer with a strong portfolio or an experienced professional looking for a fresh challenge, this position offers the opportunity to develop your skills, work on exciting projects and build a long-term career within a growing business.
