Our Organization:

The Global Stores Solution Delivery organization is responsible for delivering technology solutions to drive growth, enable efficiency, and improve customer experience at the front-line in our stores and managing various supply chain related solutions within TJX IT.

The Data & Analytics function thrives on strong relationships with our business partners and working diligently to address their needs, which support TJX growth and operational stability. On this tightly knit and fast-paced solution delivery team, you will be constantly challenged to stretch and think creatively. 

As we expand our capabilities, we are growing our presence in India to include a new focus on Data Analytics. Associates in India will work closely with global teams to mature and scale our services.

What you’ll need

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to lead data and analytics strategy for Global Stores, enabling data-driven decisions at scale across a $50B+ retail ecosystem. This role combines technical leadership, data architecture, AI innovation, and organizational influence, driving modern data platforms on Azure with a strong focus on Gen AI, Analytics, and business impact.

You will collaborate closely with product teams, architects, and business stakeholders to strategically plan and deliver product capabilities by bridging business needs with technical solutions. This role requires breaking down complex challenges into actionable components that enable efficient product development while ensuring high standards of quality and security. Within your scope, you will lead and make key decisions related to architecture, design, and overall technical direction

Strategy & Architecture

• Define and execute the data strategy, roadmap, and architecture aligned with business objectives.
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices, design standards, and development processes.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and lead POCs to drive next-generation data and AI solutions.

Delivery & Execution

• Design and deliver scalable data platforms, pipelines, and BI solutions
• Lead cross-functional initiatives, owning epics and driving execution from concept to delivery.
• Ensure data quality, security, scalability, and performance across systems.

AI & Innovation

• Drive adoption of Gen AI and Agentic AI to enhance analytics, automation, and decision-making.
• Lead development of AI-powered analytics and reporting solutions.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Partner with business, product, and architecture teams to translate complex requirements into technical solutions.
• Act as a trusted advisor, communicating insights effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

Subject Matter Expertise

• Serve as a domain expert in data systems and business applications.
• Own technical roadmaps, influence IT investments, and guide enterprise data platform evolution.

Talent Development & Leadership

• Mentor engineers, onboard new hires, and conduct technical coaching and knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Support hiring through technical interviews and talent evaluation.
• Champion DevOps and engineering excellence across teams.

Ownership & Initiative

• Take ownership of critical initiatives, proactively solving complex problems.
• Lead cross-team collaboration to deliver strategic outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years, or Master’s degree with 12+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or business intelligence.
• Extensive experience in data-intensive environments, translating business needs into technical solutions.
• Strong expertise in:
  • Snowflake, Databricks, Pyspark, Fabric, Power BI
  • SQL, Oracle, Python, data modelling, and data warehousing
  • Machine Learning and AI solutions
  • Any cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, GCP, or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
  • Experience working with event driven and distributed architectures, APIs
• Hands-on experience in data management and platform development.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience in Generative AI and Agentic AI implementations.
• Proven experience building and leading enterprise-scale data platforms.
• Strong knowledge of Business Intelligence systems, reporting, and statistical modelling.
• Demonstrated leadership in data engineering, warehousing, or data science domains.
• Excellent communication, influence, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong mentoring capability and ability to work in fast-paced, complex environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise in driving AI-driven innovation in data systems, including performance, scalability, and reliability improvements.
• Deep knowledge of data quality, governance, and advanced data architectures.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to align data initiatives to strategic outcomes.
• Experience working across multi-cloud or hybrid environments.
• Advanced degree in AI, distributed systems, or data engineering.
• Proven ability to operate effectively in ambiguous and rapidly evolving environments.
