📝 Overview

Sitemate is scaling fast, and the People function sits right at the centre of it. As we grow, every person who joins us relies on People Operations getting the fundamentals right, from being paid correctly to being set up well on day one.

In this role you'll own the employee lifecycle end-to-end. From someone's first day to their last, you'll run the payroll, systems and programs that shape their experience at Sitemate, including onboarding, performance and engagement cycles, compensation reviews and offboarding. You'll have genuine ownership and a mandate to rebuild what isn't working, using AI and automation so a lean team can support a much bigger company.

Employment:

• Salary: AU$80,000 - AU$120,000 (excl. Super)

🔧 Day-to-Day

• Own payroll end-to-end across four entities

• Manage payroll cut-offs, process starters, leavers and role changes

• Answer payroll questions from managers and employees and fix issues before the next run

• Run & own onboarding for every new starter: source & provision laptops and equipment, ensure day-one access is complete

• Run offboarding, including equipment recovery, access removal and final pay

• Keep performance cycles, engagement surveys, compensation reviews and levelling calibrations on schedule

• Look after HRIS data quality and reporting

• Document our processes so they don't rely on any one person

• Find recurring manual tasks and automate them

• Maintain and update HR policies across all regions

• Coordinate onsites and People programs

⚡ Challenges

• Payroll runs across four entities with different cycles, compliance requirements and systems

• Every error in payroll creates immediate financial and trust issues with employees

• Onboarding and offboarding happen weekly with zero room for delays or missing steps

• People programs have been run manually or inconsistently and need to be systematised

• The function needs to scale without adding headcount, which means automating aggressively

• Keeping payroll deadlines, program cycles and improvement projects all moving when they land in the same week

🎯 Skills & Tools

Must Have:

• Hands-on experience with HRIS and payroll platforms

• A solid understanding of employment compliance in more than one jurisdiction

• A track record of building and documenting processes that scale

• Strong attention to detail, especially where pay and compliance are involved

• Confidence working with Finance on reconciliations

• Clear written communication and good judgement on when to escalate

• Ability to manage competing deadlines without dropping the details

Nice to Have:

• Experience in a high-growth tech company or scale-up

• Hands-on use of AI or automation tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Zapier or Make

• Experience with BambooHR, Rippling, Deel or similar

• Exposure to construction, field services or distributed workforces

• Experience managing People systems vendors

• Experience supporting managers through performance management and employee relations processes

• Experience administering statutory and extended leave, including payroll impacts

• Experience with Rippling or a similar global HRIS
