Meter Reader / Mobile Data Collector

Location: Florence, SC and Surrounding Areas

What You Will Earn

Starting Wage: $15.00 per hour during the first three weeks of training. Upon successful completion of training, pay will increase to $17.00 per hour.

What You Will Do

As a Meter Reader/Mobile Data Collector, you will use handheld technology to collect meter readings from residential and commercial electric and water meters throughout Florence, SC and the surrounding areas. This position requires a combination of driving and walking to obtain accurate meter readings used for utility billing and reporting purposes. Daily meter readings will be uploaded to the utility's server to support metering and billing operations.

This is an outdoor position that requires walking approximately 5–10 miles per day in varying terrain and weather conditions.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Read utility meters and accurately enter readings into handheld devices.
• Drive throughout Florence, SC and surrounding communities to complete assigned meter reading routes.
• Upload daily meter reading data to utility systems.
• Meet established productivity and route completion deadlines.
• Walk approximately 5–10 miles per day across various terrains and property types.
• Work safely in all weather conditions.
• Interact professionally with customers when necessary.
• Work around domestic animals and wildlife.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following:

• Valid, unexpired driver's license.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Basic technology and handheld device proficiency.
• Strong commitment to safety practices.
• Customer service experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to walk 5–10 miles per day and work outdoors for extended periods.
• Comfortable working in various weather conditions and terrain.

No prior meter reading experience is required. Paid training is provided.

Additional Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successfully completing:

• Pre-employment drug screening.
• Background check.
• Motor vehicle record (MVR) review.
