Hardware Engineer Intern, Electrical
We are seeking a motivated Hardware Engineer Intern, Electrical to join our engineering team and gain hands-on experience supporting the design, integration, testing, and continuous improvement of electrical hardware used in advanced semiconductor equipment.
As an intern, you will work alongside experienced electrical, mechanical, process, controls, software, manufacturing, and service engineers to learn how complex semiconductor equipment is designed, built, tested, and qualified.
Throughout the internship, you will contribute to real engineering projects involving electrical systems such as power distribution, controls, sensors, interlocks, safety circuits, cable assemblies, and system-level interfaces. You will have a defined technical project with clear objectives and deliverables, while receiving mentorship, technical guidance, and feedback from experienced engineers.
This internship is designed to provide meaningful technical experience while helping you develop your engineering, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
What You’ll Do
- Contribute to a defined electrical engineering internship project with clear technical objectives and deliverables.
- Support the design, development, integration, and testing of electrical hardware for semiconductor process-module subsystems.
- Gain hands-on experience with schematics, cable drawings, wiring diagrams, power distribution, sensors, heaters, actuators, interlocks, and control interfaces.
- Assist engineers with translating system and performance requirements into electrical hardware solutions.
- Work alongside electrical, mechanical, process, controls, software, manufacturing, and service engineers to understand how multiple engineering disciplines come together to create semiconductor equipment.
- Support electrical component selection and evaluation based on performance, reliability, safety, environmental, and system requirements.
- Assist with prototype builds, system integration, design verification, and hardware testing.
- Participate in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of electrical hardware issues with guidance from experienced engineers.
- Help create and maintain engineering documentation, including schematics, bills of materials, test plans, technical documentation, and engineering change information.
- Participate in design reviews and technical discussions to gain exposure to real-world engineering decision-making.
- Learn how electrical safety, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability are incorporated into engineering designs.
- Document project progress, test results, technical findings, and recommendations.
- Present your internship project, accomplishments, and key learnings at the conclusion of the internship.
What You’ll Need
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Foundational understanding of electrical engineering concepts gained through coursework, research, lab work, student projects, or previous internships.
- Familiarity with electrical circuits, power systems, sensors, signal interfaces, or related electrical hardware concepts.
- Experience reading or creating electrical schematics through coursework, projects, research, or other technical experience.
- Familiarity with electrical CAD or schematic capture tools is a plus.
- Hands-on interest in building, testing, troubleshooting, and understanding complex electromechanical systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate technical ideas clearly.
- Curiosity, initiative, and willingness to ask questions and learn from experienced engineers.
- Interest in semiconductor technology, advanced manufacturing, automation, or complex engineering systems.
