Job Description:

The jobholder main accountabilities are:

• Setting up the capture of Concept of Operations expected by the FMTC PESCO leading and member Nations for FMTC Aircraft through an agreed governance with Nations and Industrial partners
• The Deployment and the implementation of the appropriate Requirements capture and cascade and methodologies, processes and tools inside Airbus and the FMTC consortium of industrial partners (Requirement Based Engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering)
• The management of FMTC technical reference configurations descriptions and the establishment of evaluation criteria for the trade-offs studies linked to requirements/capabilities and/or linked to technology insertion
• The establishment of the appropriate processes, methods and tools, digital working environment for technical data exchange and set of tools for the early concept phase configuration management inside the FMTC consortium while taking into account export control and potential restrictions coming from National Authorities
• The management of the FMTC Engineering roadmap and Strategy
• The management of the preparation and validation of the technical part of offers aiming for capturing additional funding sources of FMTC with the support of FMTC Chief Engineer Architects and Consortium Partners (European Defense Fund 2024, National Minister of Defense fundings, R&T European and National fundings for dual use technologies (commercial and military applications))
• The support to Customer interface at European Level (PESCO forum, PO when necessary)
• The support of FMTC CE on ADS and ACA engineering OP and strategic resources planning exercises
• The management of engineering contribution for new offers / contract for R&T / R&D projects
• The management of engineering inputs to BDPR process and execution of BDPR funded WPs

The jobholder will work in a transnational environment and in a multifunctional way with FMTC Chief Engineer Architects, FMTC Program, Costing, Commercial, Industrialization teams and key stakeholders from FASETT2 (Future Air System for European Tactical Transport) partners companies (27 partners). Furthermore, he will manage technical interface with key external stake holders such as European home countries FMTC minister of defense representatives (from Air Force staffs / defense procurement agencies), European Defense Agency representatives and other institutional representatives of source of funding of FMTC due to FMTC technological and engineering footprint and technical representatives of the participating industries.

Main Activities:

• The jobholder will lead the Work Package 2 (Overall Aircraft Concepts) Task 2.2 (Aircraft Technical management : Missions management, CONOPS, RBE, Aircraft versions management) of FASETT2 EDF24 offer and is accountable of the execution “On Time, On Cost, On Quality” for this Work Package with the contribution of ADS SAU, ADS GmBH, ACA and Leonardo teams. He will also overlook the execution of overall engineering activities contributions from Airbus Group teams with the delegation of FMTC CE and control TCQ of these contributions
• The jobholder will be in charge of:
  • The definition of the future operating environment with the support of the FMTC Chief Engineer and Architects network, with the participation of Minister of Defense representatives and partners companies interfacing with their National MoDs
  • The definition of optimal Concept of Operations on Typical medium Cargo and Tactical missions and study all potential other missions requested by military operators (Special Forces, CSAR, Medevac, Assault, SAR, Logistics, SIGINT etc…) with ADS teams
  • The FMTC interoperability concept definition in the Combat & Transport systems
  • The Top Level Aircraft Requirements Documents working in cooperation with Leonardo strategic FMTC partner
  • The management of technical data providing the FMTC technical reference configurations descriptions and trade-offs portfolio and associated evaluation criteria within an agreed consortium governance and with the support of FMTC Chief Engineer Architects, Value Management, Costing, Program Teams
  • Establishing the process / method and digital tools with IT/DDMS/CoCs teams to exchange technical data and have an appropriate configuration management and pre-development process for this stage of FMTC maturity
  • The management of FMTC engineering cost driving assumptions provided to Costing teams
  • Managing Engineering contribution with the support of FMTC Chief Engineer Architects to new offers for FMTC funding acquisition
  • Managing the roadmaps and critical paths establishment of the Engineering contribution to the FMTC Project Management Plan related to key engineering milestones for instance Technology Readiness Levels, Design Solution Ranking Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, Tests,  Certification, Entry to Service and implement and adapt latest Product Development Plan methodologies existing deployed for Airbus Defense and Space, Airbus Commercial or Helicopters recent new programs to FMTC objectives
  • Organizing the FMTC Technical Review Meetings with ADS&ACA Engineering teams and External Technical Review Meetings organization extended with Industrial strategic Partners (in particular Leonardo and strategic Engine Manufacturers)
  • Managing on behalf of FMTC CE the AOP process for ADS and ACA engineering
  • Organizing the engineering inputs to BDPR process and the follow-up of engineering BDPR funded WP execution

The jobholder will report operationally to the FMTC Chief Engineer and will have to take into account the lessons learnt from the A400M development.

Considerations for the position

• Engineering / Chief Engineering important Experience on Aircraft Development is compulsory and desirable on A400M or on other transport aircraft.
• In-depth knowledge of physical and functional interfaces on a significant perimeter of the Aircraft and many phases of the life cycle
• More than 10 years of experience on Aircraft developments
• Transnational engineering project, big suppliers and multicultural experience are needed
• High Level of Autonomy expected
• Knowledge of Requirements Management
• Knowledge of offer process in R&T CTO and R&D
• Excellent Communication and good negotiation and soft skills
• Ability to understand complexity and simplify
• Ability to give meaning and articulate Airbus FMTC strategy within teams supporting FMTC
• Regular business travels to meet MoDs, FMTC Partners (Leonardo in particular), ADS teams (Paris, Spain, Germany)
• Fluent in English (German, French or Spanish is a benefit)
