About the Role

As Remitly grows its presence in Mexico, compliance oversight and advisory is a strategic priority. We are seeking a Mexico City-based Chief Compliance Officer to own the compliance framework governing Remitly's Mexico operations and partner relationships — covering existing relationships, new partner onboarding, and future in-country licensing efforts. As part of this role, you will serve as Remitly's designated compliance officer under the regulatory regime(s) applicable to Remitly's licensed activities in Mexico, obtaining the applicable CNBV certification as part of Remitly's licensing process and holding formal regulatory responsibility under CNBV supervision. You will also support Remitly's broader compliance oversight as the company expands across Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

Reporting to the Head of Compliance, Americas, you will serve as the primary compliance voice for Remitly's Mexico operations, while supporting compliance oversight for partner-enabled send as Remitly expands across the broader LAC region. You will work closely with Remitly's global compliance, legal, product, and business development teams to ensure that every product meets Remitly's risk standards, regulatory obligations, and compliance-by-design principles — and that the compliance architecture scales as Mexico and the region grow.

You Will

Compliance Program Ownership & Regulatory Relationships

  • Own the design, implementation, and ongoing effectiveness of Remitly's overall compliance program in Mexico — spanning AML/CFT, sanctions, KYC/CDD, consumer protection, and internal controls — across both direct operations and partner-enabled channels.
  • Partner with the ERM team to conduct and maintain Mexico’s enterprise-wide AML/CFT and sanctions risk assessments, ensuring they reflect the business’s risk profile and are updated for material changes.
  • Serve as Remitly's primary compliance liaison with the CNBV, UIF, and other competent Mexican authorities; lead the strategy for regulatory examinations and proactively monitor the regulatory horizon for shifts in the local landscape.
  • Build and maintain regulatory intelligence for Mexico, tracking legislative and supervisory developments that affect Remitly's operations and partner relationships, and contribute regional intelligence on other key LAC jurisdictions as needed.

Partner Compliance Oversight

  • Own the end-to-end compliance framework for Remitly's Mexico partner relationships, including due diligence, onboarding standards, contractual compliance obligations, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Conduct and maintain enterprise-wide AML/CFT and sanctions risk assessments for Mexico, ensuring they reflect the business's actual risk profile and are updated when material changes occur.
  • Partner with Business Development and Legal teams to assess the compliance dimensions of prospective partner relationships — including regulatory standing, AML/CFT program maturity, licensing status, and risk appetite alignment.
  • Develop and maintain a standardized compliance onboarding framework for new Mexico partners, including risk-tiered due diligence requirements, compliance questionnaire design, and approval workflows.
  • Provide compliance advisory support during commercial negotiations, ensuring compliance obligations are accurately reflected in partner agreements and operationalized post-signing.

Licensing & Regulatory Readiness

  • Monitor the Mexican regulatory landscape for in-country licensing requirements relevant to Remitly's outbound-send model, and support the global licensing team in preparing regulatory submissions and managing supervisory relationships.
  • Advise on the compliance infrastructure required to support future direct licensing in Mexico, including program build requirements, staffing implications, and regulatory notification obligations.

Program Integrity & Reporting

  • Design and maintain compliance monitoring routines for direct and partner orientated transaction flows in Mexico, including risk-based sampling, typology tracking, and escalation thresholds calibrated to risk profile.
  • Ensure accurate and timely regulatory reporting obligations are met across Mexico's direct and partner-enabled corridors,, in coordination with Remitly's Financial Intelligence and FinCrimes teams.
  • Provide regular, data-driven reporting to the Head of Compliance, Americas and Global Compliance leadership on Mexico’s overall compliance posture, open issues, and emerging risks.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Culture

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to embed compliance requirements into partner integration design, ensuring controls are automated and scalable from the point of launch.
  • Lead consumer protection efforts in Mexico, including complaint handling and dispute resolution practices, in line with CONDUSEF requirements and Remitly's global consumer protection standards.
  • Serve as Mexico's compliance culture carrier — providing guidance, training, and escalation support to Mexico-facing business teams on compliance obligations related to partner-enabled operations, and extending similar support to LAC-facing teams as needed.
  • Contribute to Remitly's global compliance infrastructure by sharing regional regulatory intelligence and lessons learned from partner oversight into global policy and standards development.

You Have

  • 8+ years of compliance experience in financial services, with direct exposure to partner/third-party oversight, AML/CFT programs, and cross-border payment compliance. Experience at a remittance company, payment institution, or fintech with Mexico or broader LAC operations strongly preferred.
  • Applicable CNBV certification, or demonstrated readiness to obtain one, for the compliance officer designation relevant to Remitly's licensed activities in Mexico.
  • Deep knowledge of Mexican AML/CFT regulatory frameworks (CNBV/UIF); familiarity with other key LAC markets (e.g., Brazil BCB/COAF, Colombia SFC) is a plus. Hands-on experience with supervisory examinations and regulatory inquiries.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and operating third-party or partner compliance programs, including risk-based due diligence frameworks, reliance arrangements, and ongoing monitoring regimes.
  • Familiarity with financial services licensing processes in Mexico — including pre-application assessment, submission preparation, and ongoing supervisory lifecycle management; familiarity with other LAC jurisdictions is a plus.
  • Proven ability to partner with Product and Engineering teams to implement compliance-by-design principles in partner integration and transaction monitoring contexts.
  • Strong cross-functional influencing skills — able to operate as a strategic translator between complex local regulatory requirements and global business objectives, including at the executive level.
  • Experience operating in matrixed global organizations, with the ability to drive outcomes without direct authority and to escalate effectively.
  • Analytical, data-driven working style with strong judgment and a high degree of professional discretion.
  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Business, Finance, or a related field. CAMS or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English required.
