If you value service, care, excellence, trust and fairness, you’ll fit right in. You'll play an important role in making a difference that creates a safer, healthier and stronger Alberta by putting people first. We work together every day to help minimize the impact of workplace injuries and illnesses on Alberta workers and employers.

As the independent operator and administrator of the province’s Workers’ Compensation Act, WCB-Alberta provides protection for over two million workers and nearly 200,000 Alberta employers. Our employees are inspired to make a positive impact on the lives of injured workers and businesses throughout the province.

Are you passionate about ensuring roles are evaluated with precision, consistency, and fairness? Do you thrive at the intersection of analytics, strategy, and organizational design? We’re looking for a Compensation and Job Evaluation Specialist to support how roles are evaluated, classified, and managed within established compensation practices across the organization.

How you’ll make a difference:

In this role, you’ll help ensure job evaluation practices are applied consistently, transparently, and in alignment with organizational principles. You’ll support the integrity of role evaluation and classification processes, while providing experienced compensation support to promote internal equity, sound governance, and alignment with established frameworks.

As a subject matter resource, you’ll provide analysis, documentation, and practical advice to leaders and HR partners on job design, classification, and compensation‑related considerations. Using your expertise in the Korn Ferry Hay Job Evaluation Methodology, you’ll support sound decision‑making and help maintain trust, fairness, and consistency in how roles are evaluated and administered.

Your Responsibilities:

Lead Job Evaluation Excellence

  • Conduct and lead job evaluations using the Korn Ferry (Hay) methodology, assessing roles across Know-How, Problem Solving, and Accountability.

  • Ensure job profiles clearly reflect purpose, scope, and decision-making authority.

  • Deliver well-supported classification recommendations with clear, defensible rationales.

  • Evaluate impacts of organizational changes, including cascading effects across roles.

  • Strengthen governance practices to ensure consistency and integrity in job evaluation.

Strategic Compensation

  • Support the ongoing application and maintenance of salary structures, pay bands, and job architecture.

  • Contribute to transparent, equitable compensation frameworks aligned with organizational and government guidelines.

  • Perform modeling and scenario analysis to inform compensation decisions.

Turn Data into Insight

  • Analyze compensation and HR data to identify trends.

  • Build dashboards and reports that inform leadership decisions.

  • Translate complex analytics into clear, actionable insights.

Advisory Support & Partnership

  • Act as a trusted advisor to leaders and HR partners on job evaluation, classification, and compensation.

  • Provide guidance on pay decisions and job design.

  • Communicate decisions clearly through well-crafted documentation and rationale.

Strengthen Governance and Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with legislation, collective agreements, and compensation frameworks.

  • Support audits, appeals, and classification reviews.

  • Contribute to modernization of job evaluation and compensation practices.

  • Develop tools and training to enhance organizational capability.

  • Develop and maintain governance processes and guidelines to support compensation administration, transparency and fairness, informed by best‑practice research.

Your Experience and Skills:

  • A degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Four to six years of progressive experience in compensation and job evaluation.

  • Professional designations such as Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) and Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of Alberta (CPHR) are an asset.

  • Strong expertise in job evaluation methodologies. Korn Ferry/Hay experience is a major asset.

  • Experience in complex, unionized, or public sector environments is an asset.

  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present data effectively.

  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and navigate ambiguity with confidence.

  • Experience with HR systems. Workday experience is an asset.
