Clinical Nurse Consultant - Theatre Coordinator | St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital  

  • Employment Term: Permanent Full Time   

  • Location: located opposite Roma St Parklands, St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital is just a short walk to Brisbane city 

  • Remuneration: $64.9 – $73.02p/ hr + 12% Super + Not for Profit Salary Packaging + Employee Benefits

An integral part of our Perioperative leadership team, as a Clinical Nurse Consultant - Theatre Coordinator, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of our theatre services. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, Visiting Medical Practitioners and hospital leaders, you'll help coordinate theatre flow, workforce deployment and operational activities to deliver exceptional patient care.

Your part in our St Andrews War Memorial Hospital team   

  • St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital is seeking an experienced perioperative nurse leader to coordinate the daily operational flow of our busy theatre complex. 

  • Acting as a central point of coordination across Perioperative Services, you will oversee theatre utilisation, workforce allocation, patient flow and operational communications to ensure efficient service delivery while maintaining patient safety and staff wellbeing. 

  • A diverse role, you will: 

  • Coordinate daily operational activities across Perioperative Services to support efficient theatre utilisation and patient flow. 

  • Monitor theatre activity and proactively respond to operational issues and emerging service demands. 

  • Coordinate urgent, emergent and ad hoc surgical cases while optimising theatre scheduling and resources. 

  • Lead workforce deployment, staffing allocations and operational resource management to support safe patient care. 

  • Provide visible clinical leadership and operational support to perioperative teams. 

  • Build strong collaborative relationships with surgeons, anaesthetists, nursing teams, CSSD and other key stakeholders. 

  • Support quality, risk management and continuous improvement activities across theatre services. 

  • Coordinate equipment, instrumentation and clinical resources to ensure efficient service delivery. 

  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives, accreditation activities and operational excellence programs 

 

What makes a difference for us?  

As a skilled perioperative clinician, you will bring strong operational capability, exceptional communication skills and a passion for delivering outstanding patient outcomes. 

  • You'll present with: 

  • Minimum 5 years Operating Theatre clinical experience. 

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse. 

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating operational activities within a healthcare or hospital environment. 

  • Strong understanding of theatre flow, workforce planning and resource allocation. 

  • Proven ability to lead and influence multidisciplinary teams. 

  • Experience managing competing priorities and responding to changing operational demands. 

  • Highly developed communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills. 

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability. 

  • Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and service excellence. 

  • Ability to build positive relationships with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders. 

 

Highly regarded: 

  • Postgraduate qualification in a Perioperative specialty such as Anaesthetics or Scrub/Scout. 

  • Postgraduate qualification in Leadership, Management or Health Administration. 

  • Experience coordinating theatre services or other complex healthcare operations. 

  • Knowledge of healthcare accreditation standards, infection prevention and risk management principles. 

  • Experience with workforce management systems and resource planning. 

  • Experience leading operational improvement initiatives, service redesign or change management projects. 

  • Lean, Six Sigma or continuous improvement qualifications
