Placement within the range is typically based upon a review of skills, experience, and internal equity.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Audio Visual Services, the Audio-Visual Specialist II provides advanced technical support for the design, assembly, configuration, programming, testing, troubleshooting, repair, upgrade, and documentation of SAIT’s audio visual systems.
The role primarily supports classrooms, labs, and related learning spaces, while also supporting other campus spaces as operational priorities and resources allow. This position contributes to the reliability, functionality, and consistency of integrated AV environments that support teaching, learning, presentations, events, and day-to-day campus operations.
The Audio-Visual Specialist II works with a range of AV technologies, including control systems, displays, projection systems, audio systems, signal distribution, switching, conferencing equipment, and related infrastructure. The position is expected to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, support system changes and upgrades, perform programming and configuration activities in accordance with established standards, providing technical input on improvements when requested, and maintain accurate documentation to support ongoing operations, lifecycle planning, and service continuity.
How you'll contribute
AV system Configuration and Technical Support:
Review, interpret, and validate AV system drawings to ensure alignment with SAIT standards, technical requirements, operational needs, and established best practices.
Gather, document, and assess technical and programming requirements for new, upgraded, and existing AV systems.
Configure, program, modify, and support integrated AV control systems, including control processors, touch panels, user interfaces, switching systems, audio systems, displays, projection systems, conferencing equipment, and related AV infrastructure.
Configure and maintain existing AV control modules, interfaces, and programming components to support system functionality, consistency, and long-term supportability.
Make minor modifications to established programming standards for touch panels and control systems, ensuring layouts are intuitive, user-friendly, accessible to clients, and aligned with SAIT operational standards.
Install, upload, configure, and validate control programs and touch panel designs for AV systems through onsite, offsite, or remote access methods.
Support system commissioning, code validation, functional testing, and acceptance testing to confirm proper operation and alignment with project requirements.
Test integrated AV systems, identify technical issues, isolate root causes, and complete advanced troubleshooting to support reliable system performance.
Diagnose and complete repairs on AV systems, components, cabling, wiring, and related equipment using standard industry practices, including soldering where required.
Specialized AV Environments, Deployment, and Lifecycle Support:
Stage, configure, test, deploy, and support AV systems and integrated technologies across a variety of learning, meeting, event, and specialized environments.
Ensure the reliability, performance, and maintainability of AV systems by troubleshooting technical issues, supporting integrations, and validating system readiness for deployment and lifecycle upgrades.
Collaborate with vendors, specialists, and internal stakeholders to deliver complex AV solutions and support projects requiring specialized expertise.
Operational Support, Maintenance, and Service Continuity:
Maintain, monitor, troubleshoot, and repair AV systems to ensure reliable service, including preventative maintenance, system updates, and hardware installations or relocations.
Manage incidents and service requests through ServiceNow, leveraging monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve issues.
Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers on repairs, replacements, inventory management, and warranty support while maintaining a safe work environment.
Documentation standards, Client support, and Knowledge Transfer:
Develop and maintain user guides, technical documentation, and support resources for AV systems and services.
Provide exceptional client support and collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and vendors to deliver reliable AV solutions.
Share technical knowledge and best practices to support team development, consistent service delivery, and effective issue resolution.
Technical Currency, Vendor Engagement, and Continuous Improvement:
Maintain current knowledge of AV technologies, control systems, integration methods, and industry best practices through ongoing learning and vendor engagement.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and processes to improve reliability, user experience, and operational efficiency.
Support AV standards, lifecycle planning, system upgrades, and specialized technical initiatives in collaboration with vendors and subject matter experts.
What you bring
Diploma in Audio Visual Technology, Broadcast Technology, Information Technology, Computer Technology, Computer Support, Programming, Electronics, or a related technical discipline. Combinations of Education and Experience will be considered.
3 - 5 years of related experience supporting, configuring, programming, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining integrated audio-visual systems.
Valid driver’s license is required.
Demonstrated experience supporting complex AV environments such as classrooms, labs, meeting spaces, event spaces, broadcast-enabled spaces, studios, production-adjacent learning spaces, or other specialized integrated AV environments.
Demonstrated experience with AV control systems, switching systems, signal distribution, displays, projection systems, audio systems, conferencing technologies, cameras, microphones, and related AV infrastructure (platforms such as Crestron, Extron, Kramer, AMX, or similar technologies).
Experience with low-voltage wiring, AV cabling, RS-232, network-connected AV devices, audio and video signal flow, and related installation or troubleshooting practices.
Experience reading and interpreting AV system drawings, construction drawings, shop drawings, work orders, technical documentation, and manufacturer specifications.
Experience staging, testing, commissioning, and validating AV systems to confirm functionality, reliability, and alignment with operational requirements.
Experience in creating or maintaining technical documentation, client-facing instructions, programming notes, configuration records, or support procedures.
Experience working safely in classrooms, labs, construction areas, ceiling spaces, equipment rooms, studios, event spaces, and other operational environments while following workplace safety requirements.
Advanced experience with AV programming, control system configuration, user interface design, and programming-related documentation.
Experience gathering technical or programming requirements from clients, project teams, vendors, or internal stakeholders.
Experience demonstrating completed AV systems to clients, confirming functionality, and explaining system operation in clear, practical language.
Experience contributing to AV standards, system templates, support procedures, programming practices, or lifecycle planning.
Preferred Qualifications:
AV programming or manufacturer certifications such as Crestron CTI-P101, Extron, Kramer Control, AMX, or equivalent certifications are assets.
CTS, CTS-I, or other AVIXA certifications are assets.
Direct experience supporting broadcast systems, studio AV environments, production control rooms, event production spaces, or broadcast-adjacent AV technologies is an asset.
Familiarity with Ross equipment or similar broadcast production technologies is an asset.
Experience with production switchers, routing systems, camera systems, intercom systems, audio mixing, recording, streaming, replay, or related broadcast workflows is an asset.
ITIL Foundation certification is an asset.
Workplace safety, lift, ladder, or construction safety training is an asset.
