What You'll Be Doing

CIBC Real Estate Corporate Banking provides financing to institutional real estate companies on both an interim/construction and term basis across Canada. Our team is part of CIBC’s Real Estate Finance Division, a national business with experienced real estate professionals located in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton Toronto, Ottawa, London, Hamilton and Montreal. We apply industry expertise to offer full-service financial solutions to real estate companies and users across Canada. Through working closely with Relationship Managers on CIBC’s Real Estate Corporate Banking team, the successful candidate will gain experience in both real estate lending and the management of key client relationships. The Real Estate Corporate Banking team provides innovative financial solutions to Canadian REITs, pension funds, and private equity firms. The Associate will provide a broad range of analytical and research support to a team who is dedicated to helping the Associate achieve their professional goals. The incumbent will be involved with a variety of projects to expose them to various aspects of lloan underwriting, credit analysis, and portfolio management.

How You’ll Succeed

• Research & Analysis - Responsible for conducting in-depth company, industry, and portfolio analysis. Assist in performing risk assessments for existing and new credit arrangements through completing financial statement analysis, sensitivity and scenario analysis, valuation of different asset classes (ex. office, retail, residential, industrial, etc.) and reviewing third party reports (ex. environmental reports, appraisals, etc.).

• Financial Modelling – Build financial models mainly focused on credit analysis and risk rating evaluation.

• Cross Functional Collaboration and Credit Recommendations - Making informal and formal presentations to senior management to discuss deal structuring as a part of the deal team. Collaborating with internal risk partners and stakeholders across CIBC (ex. Investment Banking, Interest Rate Solutions, Debt Capital Markets, etc.) to analyze key risks and mitigation strategies in existing and new credits.

• Business Development Support - Fulfill day-to-day requests of a portfolio of clients alongside the Relationship Managers. Proactively assess clients’ needs, propose solutions, and execute as instructed by the client. Play a key role in the preparation of client proposals and information memoranda. Attend client events, meetings, and site visits to further develop key client relationships.

• Portfolio Management Client Service - Play an integral role in the end-to-end processing of a loan (i.e. from structuring to funding). Collaborate with various teams and departments to fulfill day-to-day tasks such as loan  processing, opening of deposit accounts including signing authorities, non/negotiable securities, and the review of cash management arrangements.
