The Department of Performance invites applications for a tenure-track position in Violin at the rank of Assistant Professor, for an initial three-year appointment beginning August 1, 2027. Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor may be considered for an exceptional candidate.
Job Duties:
Academic responsibilities include teaching, research, and service to the University. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active international profile with a high level of professional activity, while teaching and supervising students at the undergraduate, graduate, and diploma levels, including those preparing for professional careers. Teaching responsibilities will include applied instruction and chamber music coaching and may also encompass courses and seminars related to the candidate’s area of expertise. Service responsibilities might include participation in departmental and School committees, as well as contributions to curriculum development and program enhancement. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop and sustain a level of artistic activity and/or research consistent with the University's expectations for tenure.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
A doctorate or equivalent professional experience, together with a distinguished international reputation as a performer, is required. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching students at the highest levels of performance and scholarship, broad knowledge of the violin repertoire, and a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and supportive learning environment. The candidate will also contribute to student recruitment and outreach initiatives that engage and inspire emerging musicians. Exceptional leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and the broader musical community.
