Seeking individuals to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Paper Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and related topics; mentor students; provide service to the institution. The start date is August 2027.

Job Description

The Department of Chemical, Paper and Biomedical Engineering invites applications for a position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor or Associate Lecturer. The focus of this search is to find candidates with educational and/or work experience directly related to the pulp and paper industry. Successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Paper Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and related topics, mentor students, and contribute service to the department and university. The typical teaching load for this position is 24 semester credit hours per year, with approximately 80% of the workload dedicated to teaching and approximately 20% devoted to service. This position will begin in August 2027. 

Based on performance, this position is eligible for subsequent reappointment with the possibility of promotion tiers that includes longer-term continuing contracts.

The Department of Chemical, Paper and Biomedical Engineering is the oldest engineering program on campus. Pulp and paper-related courses were first offered in 1958 at Miami. With the help of industry and alumni, the Paper Science and Engineering Foundation was established in 1960. The mission of the Foundation is to support the department in attracting and preparing talented and highly motivated individuals for careers in leadership within the pulp, paper, and affiliated industries. This is accomplished by providing scholarships and work experience opportunities to students, support to faculty, enhancements to department facilities, and by demonstrating the value of the program to the industry. The Paper Science and Engineering program became the first ABET-accredited Paper Science and Engineering program in the United States in 1999.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • For appointment as an Assistant Teaching Professor, applicants must have a doctorate in Paper Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Engineering Education, or related field by the date of appointment.
  • For appointment as an Associate Teaching Professor, applicants must have a doctorate in Paper Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Engineering Education, or related field by the date of appointment with a minimum of three years of full-time higher education teaching experience. 
  • For appointment as an Associate Lecturer, applicants must have a Master’s degree in Paper Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Engineering Education, or related field by date of appointment with a minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
