We are looking for a Staff Quantum Control Hardware Engineer to join our Networking, Sensing, and Security division. As a Staff Engineer, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers and networked systems to solve the world’s most complex problems.
In this role, you will design the critical physical layer interface for next-generation quantum networking nodes and high-precision sensing devices. You will build the low-noise, high-precision mixed-signal hardware necessary to control optical sources and read single-photon detectors with the fidelity required for secure quantum communication and entanglement distribution. This is an exciting opportunity to define the hardware architecture that will enable the future of the quantum internet and ultra-secure communications.

The approximate base salary range for this position is $128,119 - $167,740. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, and equity.
Compensation will vary based on individual factors such as education, qualifications, and experience of the final candidate(s), specific office location, and calibration against relevant market data and internal team equity. Architect and develop mission-critical software for a next-generation automated oligo synthesizer, enabling precise control of mechanical, fluidic, and electrical systems. You’ll own the full-stack software infrastructure, from low-level hardware communication (USB/SPI/serial) and embedded firmware integration to GUI design, data analysis tools, and database management — ensuring seamless operation for end-user scientists.
Responsibilities:
Own the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for instrument control software: design, implement, debug, test, and deploy across Java/Python/C++ codebases.
Modernize and refactor legacy systems while ensuring backward compatibility with low level software + embedded firmware (custom PCB controller) and hardware messaging protocols.
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, scientists, and IT to translate user feedback into scalable software improvements (UI/UX, performance, reliability).

We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead PCB design within the Agentic Computational Engineering (ACE) platform team and to encode the realities of space-electronics PCB design and manufacturing directly into our generative engine. In this role, you will own end-to-end PCB design — schematic capture, stackup definition, high-speed and mixed-signal layout, signal and power integrity, fabrication and assembly readiness — for flight hardware, and translate that hard-won expertise into the constraints, heuristics, and feedback loops that let our AI agents design boards that can actually be built, qualified, and flown.
You will work at the intersection of PCB design, space-grade manufacturing, and AI — pairing your own hands-on board work with software development that captures DfM, DfA, and DfT considerations as code. This role is ideal for someone who has personally laid out flight boards, knows what fabricators and assembly houses actually need to see on a drawing package, and is excited to guide the team and write the software that lets an agent reason about those same trade-offs. You should be passionate about both leading a team and building this product: not just designing one more board, but multiplying your impact by encoding your judgment into a system that designs the next thousand.
You will be joining the Agentic Computational Engineering (ACE) team, a specialized group within our Advanced Technology Development organization. ACE is responsible for building Voyager’s Generative Engine – the AI-native platform that compresses complex hardware development cycles from years to days. Job Summary:
We are seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to build the frontend and backend of the Agentic Computational Engineering platform. In this role, you will create high-performance full stack web applications that allow engineers to steer AI agents, visualize complex physics and CAD data, and collaborate with AI agents in real time.
You will work across the stack, with an emphasis on performance, 3D visualization, and intuitive UX for technical users. This role is ideal for someone who loves building tools for other engineers and who wants to make the reasoning and actions of AI systems transparent.

A predominant number of components on our launch vehicle are controlled by our in-house firmware, playing an essential role in the hardware software interface. As a Firmware Engineer, you will develop, test, and deploy code that can reliably support mission operations.
