As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in helping us transition from a localized setup with regional banks to a unified Global Bank. A significant challenge will involve supporting the move to a fully distributed, event-driven architecture. 

Our tech stack includes Go, AWS, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes, supported by a strong observability toolchain with Prometheus, Grafana, and Honeycomb. We also actively use AI‑assisted development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and others.

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with a global team to design and build a unified global banking platform. This includes high-level APIs for multiple regions and local implementations, ensuring high availability and observability

What You’ll Do

• Own high availability money movement production services end‑to‑end, including delivery, observability, maintenance, and operational support.
• Lead small‑to‑mid sized initiatives and take responsibility for significant parts of larger team’s domain projects.
• Lead architectural and design decisions, including system design, data modelling, and API boundaries.
• Improve service reliability and quality through testing, monitoring, alerting, and continuous improvement of delivery pipelines.
• Operate the systems you build by participating in on‑call rotations, incident response, and post‑incident reviews.
• Apply a backend and systems perspective during refinement, identifying risks, dependencies, and technical trade‑offs early.
• Collaborate closely with Product, QA, and engineers across teams to deliver end‑to‑end transfer and banking capabilities.

• Have previously led the implementation of backend services in a modern environment and supported them in production.

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Global Accounts team, you'll own critical pieces of our bank account platform. You'll help us design and build a fully distributed, event-driven system designed to scale across regions with resilience and compliance built in.

You'll work primarily in Kotlin, with opportunities in Elixir and Golang. We practice Extreme Programming: small iterations, daily deliveries, and a focus on technical design quality and deep problem understanding.

• Build critical infrastructure from scratch: Contribute to the design and implementation of a newly architected global accounts platform. You'll help migrate existing systems to a modern, event-driven, decoupled architecture that enables scalability and resilience across regions.
• Master event-driven architecture: You'll be working extensively with Kafka to build a truly decoupled, resilient system. Event-driven architecture is essential to our goal of ensuring that failures in one part of the system don't bring down banking operations globally. The Balance Management Squad sits at the core of the Global Bank Platform. Right now, our team is completing a major milestone: consolidating and modernizing our balance management system in Europe. The next big step is creating a global transaction history service; a single, shared platform used by all regions to give merchants consistent and transparent views of their financial activity.

• Build and maintain production money movement backend services, contributing to their delivery, observability, and ongoing maintenance.

Requirements:

• 5+ years development or automation experience.
• 4+ years of experience working with containers.
• 4+ years working with AWS infrastructure and services.
• 4+ years of hand-on experience working with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or Amazon EKS.
• 4+ years of hands-on experience with IaC, Terraform or similar.
• 2+ years working with CI/CD tooling, hands on experience with GitLab is a plus.
• Strong AWS cloud engineering experience. 
• Certifications with any of the following is a plus: AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified DevOps Developer - Master (CDCD-001).
• Experience integrating monitoring tools into application support.
• Experience working with distributed cloud deployments is a strong plus.
• Be attentive to details and show aptitude for problem solving and a highly collaborative mindset.
• Working knowledge of datastores such as RDS Postgres, RabbitMQ or equivalent.
• Experience with Agile project delivery.

Your mission is to build the foundation that allows our engineering organization to ship code faster, safer, and at a scale most engineers never get to encounter.

• Technical Breadth: Ability to script and build tools in multiple languages (Python, Go, Scala, or Bash).
• Deep Systems Knowledge: You’re comfortable debugging at the Linux kernel level and analyzing performance via, for example,  flame graphs.

Your mission is to ensure that every system, pipeline, and tool our engineers rely on is secure by default — so they can ship fast without ever compromising trust.

The Velocity team exists to eliminate friction. We build and own the foundation everything else runs on: cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, and SRE practices. You will:

• Embed Security Into the Platform: Bake security, compliance, and best practices into the core stack so they're invisible to developers and impossible to skip.
• Automate Everything: Drive security-as-code across infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and container lifecycles — making manual gates a thing of the past.

What You Will Do

• Cloud Security Posture: Own and continuously strengthen Flo's AWS security posture using tools like GuardDuty, Inspector, Security Hub, and SSM Patch Manager.
• Container & Supply Chain Security: Harden container image security end-to-end — patch vulnerabilities automatically with Copacetic, sign and verify images with Cosign/Sigstore, and enforce policies at admission with Kyverno.
• Policy as Code: Manage CI/CD security across the organisation using policy-as-code tooling (Kyverno, Checkov), ensuring standards are enforced programmatically.
• Security Observability: Build visibility into security performance by measuring and visualising actionable metrics using tools like Databricks Dashboards or Looker.
• High-Scale Privacy: Support the infrastructure for industry-leading privacy features, such as our TIME-recognised "Anonymous Mode."
• Culture & Thought Leadership: Shape Flo's broader security culture through proactive engagement, documentation, and cross-team collaboration.

What You Bring

• Experience: 7+ years in Infrastructure Security, Cloud Security, or Security Engineering roles.
• Cloud Native Mastery: Deep expertise in AWS security services and best practices is essential.
• Infrastructure as Code: Proficient in Terraform and Terragrunt — you run everything as code.
• Container Security: Strong knowledge of Kubernetes security, image hardening, and admission control.
• Identity & Access: Solid understanding of identity management principles — SSO, OAuth, JWT, SAML.
• Automation Mindset: Comfortable scripting in Python, Bash, or similar to automate security workflows.
• Network Security: Understanding of modern network security principles and their practical application.
• SSDLC: Experience building Secure Software Development Lifecycle phases into engineering workflows.

Bonus Points

• Experience with security monitoring and event correlation systems (IDS/IPS, SIEM, AWS-native tooling).
• Knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture and its implementations (e.g., Cloudflare).
• Familiarity with secret management processes and tools.
• Experience in multi-cloud environments (AWS and preferably GCP).
• Understanding of business continuity principles (BIA, DRP).
