Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Process Engineer with expertise in the development and implementation of chemical and physical processes stream related equipment, to support the Kairos Power fuels program. In this role, you will work within an engineering team to design, construct, commission, and optimize performance of the process equipment necessary for TRISO particle fabrication. You will also work cross-functionally with facility operations, facility engineers, quality assurance, and environmental, health and safety (EHS) to enable supporting functions.

Responsibilities

• Interpret process engineering information communicated via Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), including heat and material balances, process envelopes, and their integration into mechanical designs.
• Develop equipment specifications and size equipment such as tanks, vessels, valves, lines, and pumps based on process needs.
• Prepare equipment lists and data sheets for equipment.
• Develop and/or approve manufacturing drawings for custom-designed equipment.

In this role, you will work within a process and mechanical engineering team to facilitate design, construct, commission, and optimize process equipment and automation systems necessary for TRISO particle fabrication. You will also work cross-functionally with facility operations, facility engineers, quality assurance, and environmental, health & safety (EHS) to enable supporting functions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the project team in executing the construction execution plan—including maintaining a strong on-site presence, managing RFIs and submittals, reviewing and approving change orders, tracking project risks, and validating contractor forecasts and progress—while facilitating key design, construction, commissioning, and turnover milestones.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will collaborate with engineering operations, site integration, design, safety analysis, and licensing teams to develop facility operating solutions that align with Kairos Power’s Mission and comply with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations, license conditions and licensing commitments.  Additionally, you will be a key interface for communications between Kairos Power facility operations and the NRC staff providing oversight of the facility.

The Inventory Management System (IMS) team is seeking a highly motivated and passionate Engineer to join our efforts in designing, building, and commissioning high-temperature skids for molten salt systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in process, chemical, and mechanical engineering, with the ability to apply these skills to high-temperature design challenges. 

 In this role, you will contribute to the development of critical process systems for the Hermes reactor, our first-of-a-kind low-power nuclear demonstration reactor. As a key member of the IMS team, you will assist in designing, commissioning, and operating components to manage and control the reactor’s molten salt coolant inventory. The position requires an aptitude for chemical engineering, systems integration, and industrial or pilot-scale system deployment. You will collaborate closely with mechanical design, plant layout, piping, instrumentation, and operations teams to integrate and optimize these systems. 

Responsibilities  

• Support design of high temperature piping loops, vessels, heaters, and instruments to manage the Hermes molten salt coolant inventory.
• Perform engineering calculations to support defining hydraulic, thermal, or other design parameters such as pipe size, required pump head, heat loss, hydraulic losses in a pipe loop, etc.
• Lead the design and construction of test platforms, including component prototypes, scaled system demonstrations, and engineering studies to inform IMS system design and performance.
• Develop and document engineering calculations, technical studies, and design rationale through clear and concise technical reports, memos, and presentations.
