Why This Role Matters
As the Infrastructure Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the
integration of mechanical building system requirements for our nuclear fusion
demonstration system. You will work across several teams to develop the
building systems which enables us to achieve net facility gain. During
construction you will work with design consulting engineering and contractors to
ensure a quality installation which can be safely maintained. Following
construction, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and future
upgrades of the building systems.
This position is based in Albuquerque, NM and will require up to 50% travel to
our San Leandro, CA facility during the design and permitting process.
What You'll Do
- Develop facility mechanical equipment requirements and guidelines for
building systems including HVAC, fire protection, plumbing, and other
infrastructure systems. - Assist in the design and development of utility systems including
pneumatic, fluid, and vacuum systems. - Interface with engineers, scientists, and technicians to obtain facility
mechanical inputs. - Work with the Infrastructure Design Team to ensure building mechanical
systems are documented and designed appropriately for permitting
design, construction, commissioning, and operations. - Develop building systems commissioning, maintenance, and operations
plans.
What You Bring
- Minimum BS, Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 7+ years of experience working in design, construction, facility
operations, and commissioning for industrial, manufacturing, or
research facilities - Experience with HVAC, process piping, fire sprinkler, and plumbing
systems - Hands on experience with industrial, manufacturing, or research facility
commissioning and operations - Strong multidisciplinary program management skills and ability to work
diligently across cross functional teams - Proactive, doer, and self starter mindset

DC systems - Knowledge of NEC and NFPA 70E

Why This Role Matters
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for evaluating current manual processes and making them more efficient, robust and reliable through improved instructions, tooling or implementing automation solutions. This role is ideal for someone with strong factory-floor instincts, who understands how to build things at rate and with an eye towards economics based automation in the real world—not just on paper—and who thrives in a fast-moving, build-focused environment. In this role your work will optimize processes and enable production employees, engineers and scientists across the organization as they bring our demonstration system online.
What You'll Do
- Set-up and analyze manufacturing processes to identify assembly sequence and tooling improvements as well as automation opportunities that reduce labor and increase throughput, capacity, capability, and yield
- Collaborate with design engineering to influence product DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturability/Automation) to ease automation integration
- Design and develop tools that aid in error free assembly, improve safety and quality
- Write and or edit electronic work instructions for repetitive assembly steps to document the best known practices, incorporate inspection steps to verify quality, document traceability and data collection steps as needed
- Specify, source, and deploy off-the-shelf or custom automation equipment including conveyors, actuators, robotics, inspection stations, and tooling
- Write and maintain documentation for equipment setup, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance
- Support process development and initial production, with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement
- Facilitate change management on the facility floor; including manufacturing validation
- Partner closely with area managers, manufacturing technicians, mechanical engineers, and quality to ensure equipment performance aligns with production goals
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related equivalent experience in this field
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering or automation in a relatable production environment
- Hands-on experience developing and integrating automation equipment, including mechanical and control systems (pneumatics, motion control, sensors)
- Experience with robotic arms (e.g., UR, Fanuc, ABB), end-of-arm tooling, and collaborative automation
- Strong CAD proficiency (e.g., PTC Creo) and ability to design tooling and fixturing
- Demonstrated capability with PLCs, industrial communication protocols, and control systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, etc.)
- Solid understanding of process validation, process capability, and yield improvement methodologies and dashboard reporting showing system health
- Experience managing external automation integrators or machine builders
- Familiarity with MES, SCADA, or factory data collection tools
- Comfortable operating in an evolving, ambiguous, and cross-functional startup environment

- Background in electromechanical product assembly or electronics manufacturing.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.
- Familiarity with datavis tools and visual factory concepts that use dashboards, IoT data, and visual tools to display real-time facility performance.

The Rigging, Fixtures and Ground Support Equipment Engineer will design, analyze, and procure custom handling equipment for lifting, in factory movement and overland transportation of Pacific Fusion’s large custom hardware. You will utilize your expertise in heavy lifts, speciality rigging and in factory movement to create innovative designs to address unique installation and transportation challenges on rapid timelines across multiple locations. In this role you will work collaboratively with engineers, production employees, and scientists to optimize equipment designs across the company for safety, efficiency, and cost as we bring our demonstration system online. This role needs to be onsite at our Los Lunas, New Mexico facility.
What You'll Do

Design, analyze, and procure a broad range of lifting and transportation fixtures and handling equipment for specialty hardware.

Working closely with relevant engineers to meet strict technical and operational requirements.

Use industry standards and relevant regulations to apply best practices for future designs and improve existing designs.

Review all lift and transport fixture designs for structural integrity under dynamic and static loading.

Create and/or review detailed CAD models, FEA, and mechanical fabrication drawings of all custom fixtures and handling equipment.

What You Bring

Deep knowledge of rigging equipment, lifting techniques, load path analysis, and safety standards (e.g., ASME B30 series, OSHA 1926).

Expertise in design and analysis (structural and FEA) of custom lift, transportation, and handling fixtures for large and heavy hardware.

Expertise in variety of cranes (bridge, gantry, mobile, et.c), forklifts, below-the-hook lift fixtures.

Why This Role Matters
Pacific Fusion (PF) is seeking a Project Engineer to support a large, complex, first-of-a-kind R&D and light industrial facility.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the project team in executing the construction execution plan—including maintaining a strong on-site presence, managing RFIs and submittals, reviewing and approving change orders, tracking project risks, and validating contractor forecasts and progress—while facilitating key design, construction, commissioning, and turnover milestones.
The role is embedded on site and works day-to-day with the Construction Manager and General Contractor (GC). The Project Engineer serves as a critical owner-side execution and commercial control resource for preconstruction and construction activities, supporting field coordination, risk and contingency management, scope control, quality closeout, and disciplined cost and schedule performance.
What You'll Do
- Maintain daily on-site presence supporting construction activities. Monitor progress, identify issues early, and escalate proactively. Coordinate between PF, GC, designers, and subcontractors. Participate in safety walks, inspections, and coordination meetings. Support punch list, quality closeout, and turnover readiness.
- Manage RFI workflows and drive timely resolution. Lead owner-side review and approval of change orders, validating entitlement, scope, cost, and schedule impacts.
- Maintain the project risk register and partner with the PF Cost Engineer to manage contingency usage and forecasting. Review contractor cost reports and update the owner’s Estimate at Completion (EAC), proactively identifying emerging risks.
- Support schedule execution, progress verification, commissioning coordination, and turnover readiness, while providing general project management support and acting as a delegate to the Construction Manager as needed.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field (or equivalent hands-on construction experience in lieu of a degree)
- 3–7+ years of experience in project engineering, field engineering, or construction management on commercial, industrial, or large capital projects
- Direct experience managing RFIs, submittals, and construction documentation
- Experience reviewing and validating change orders, including scope, cost, and entitlement considerations
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, startup or low-process environment
- Comfortable working full-time on active construction sites
