Why This Role Matters
As an Electro-Mechanical Build Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting our engineering and delivery teams in setting up automated manufacturing lines and in the assembly, testing, and validation of electrical and mechanical components integral to our fusion energy systems. Your technical skills, attention to detail, and proactive approach are fundamental to our success.
What You'll Do

Lead the assembly, installation, and maintenance of our fusion systems.

Receive deliveries and control inventory of equipment and manufacturing supplies.
- Rapid prototyping for fusion technology applications.

Support the engineering team during the design, development, and testing phases of the fusion system.

Help troubleshoot, repair, and optimize equipment to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.

Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (including electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers) to ensure systems integration and effectiveness.

Play a key role in setting up the manufacturing site by installing equipment, facilities, and storage.

Draft and finalize SOPs, safety procedures, and other related documentation.

Maintain the manufacturing environment via 5S principles, ensuring that all tools, equipment, and workspaces are clean, safe, and organized.

Comply with all applicable safety and regulatory requirements, including ISO, state, and federal regulations, as well as those specific to the company.
What You Bring
-
Minimum 2 years of experience as a technician in a hands-on setting.

Familiarity with CAD software and technical drawings for viewing and interpreting design schematics is a plus.

Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems.

Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols.

Extensive experience driving a forklift and using hand power tools.
-
Strong communication skills and experience with in person and remote communication with other technicians and engineers.

Experience with automation equipment and processes is a plus.

Experience in setting up a new manufacturing facility, ideally in a startup environment is a plus.

Experience owning and mastering machine shop tools, particularly lathe, mill, CNC, drill press, etc is a plus.

Experience with building out a team by interviewing, hiring, and training other technicians is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the physical ability to squat, reach, climb, prolonged periods of standing, frequent lifting of objects up to 50 lbs, and regular hands-on work with tools and equipment in the laboratory.

Why This Role Matters
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Measurement Engineer - Lab Experiments to design, build, operate, and advance our pulsed power systems — the core of our experimental fusion platform. This role is deeply hands-on and multidisciplinary, requiring expertise across high-voltage systems, controls, diagnostics, and data analysis. The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth with the ability to lead R&D workflows, collaborate across disciplines, and take ownership of system performance and development.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and operate pulsed power systems, including high-voltage and high-current architectures.
- Design, build, and operate control systems for pulsed power operation, safety, and automation.
- Rapid prototyping for fusion technology applications.
- Operate pulsed power systems during testing and data acquisition campaigns, including occasional work outside regular business hours.
- Ensure safe, reliable operation of high-energy systems in accordance with company safety protocols.
- Acquire, process, and analyze data from pulsed power experiments to evaluate system performance and stability.
- Develop tools and workflows for data collection, visualization, and interpretation.
- Translate experimental results into actionable insights for next-generation pulser design.
- Take ownership of pulsed power subsystem advancement and roadmap execution.
- Lead design reviews, experimental planning, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and plasma physics teams to iterate and improve designs.
- Drive continuous improvement in reliability, efficiency, and diagnostic capability.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience designing and operating pulsed power systems and related experiments.
- Proven ability to deliver complex R&D projects on schedule, from concept to prototype to validation.
- Experience building and managing multidisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists.
- Expertise in pulse power and plasma diagnostics, including voltage, current, and optical instrumentation.
- Strong background in electronic design, control systems, and PLC software development.
- Experience with vacuum systems design, operation, and diagnostics.
- Proficiency in circuit simulations (e.g., SPICE, PSCAD, COMSOL, or similar) and data analysis using Python, MATLAB, or equivalent tools.
- Familiarity with engineering modeling and CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, ANSYS, or COMSOL Multiphysics).
Preferred Skills
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
- Prior experience with high-voltage pulsed systems for fusion, plasma research, or accelerator applications.
- Hands-on experience integrating diagnostics and controls for high-energy experiments.
- Knowledge of safety standards and best practices in high-voltage or high-energy environments.

Why This Role Matters
As the Senior Facilities Engineer, you will be the primary technical bridge
between our fusion demonstration system design team and the facility
infrastructure. This is a high-impact role responsible for the integration of
complex mechanical and electrical systems that power and support our fusion
demonstration system. You will manage the interface where cutting-edge
science meets industrial-scale engineering, overseeing design consultants to
develop bespoke hardware and ensuring the facility's infrastructure is perfectly
synchronized with the machine’s operational requirements.
This position is based in Albuquerque, NM, and will require up to 50% travel to
our San Leandro, CA facility for the first year to embed with the design team
during the critical engineering phase.
What You'll Do
- Oversee the interface between the fusion demonstration system design
and the facility infrastructure, ensuring M&E systems (power, cooling,
and utilities) meet stringent scientific requirements - Manage relationships and technical deliverables with external design
consultants to develop large-scale mechanical and electrical hardware
supporting the system - Work with the Infrastructure Design Team to ensure facility systems are
documented and designed appropriately for permitting, construction,
and long-term operations - Support the physical assembly and construction of the fusion
demonstration system, coordinating the installation of critical
subsystems within the facility - Support the development of utility systems including high-voltage
electrical distribution, specialized cooling loops, and vacuum system
infrastructure - Support the commissioning and transition of building systems from
construction into full-scale research operations
What You Bring
- Minimum BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Dual-discipline
familiarity is a significant plus) - 10+ years of experience in the design, construction, and
commissioning of large-scale industrial or scientific research facilities - Proven track record managing complex M&E infrastructure, including
high-voltage power, process piping, and industrial cooling - Significant experience managing engineering consultants and large-
scale hardware procurement contracts - Proactive, "DOer," and self-starter capable of navigating the ambiguity
of a first-of-a-kind research project - A positive attitude and the ability to influence cross-functional teams of
scientists, engineers, and contractors
Bonus Points For
- Previous experience at a National Laboratory (e.g., SNL, LANL, LLNL)
or similar highly-regulated research environments - Experience overseeing construction or facilities involving radiological
shielding, hot cells, or other high-energy physics hazards - Knowledge of pulsed-power infrastructure, ultra-high vacuum (UHV)
environments, or cryogenic systems - PE (Professional Engineer) license
- Experience working closely with PhD scientists and R&D organizations
to translate theoretical needs into physical hardware

- Experience using 2D and 3D CAD tools such as Creo or SolidWorks
