Active participation in customer design reviews to define requirements in terms of engineering metrics, address design solutions and mechanical design requirements to implement changes that improve product and interfaces and ensure a robust product design.
Define and create the documents needed for production and get them released through proper approval process, to reach a proper program launch. Establish physical and functional integration of plastics components of the interior trim of the vehicles through all phases of the program. Translate functional objectives into technical requirements and mechanical solutions. Create and analyze alternative design concepts packaging and integrating mechanical systems, mechanical components and benchmarking of competitive vehicles. Review 3D CAD with Tool shops to communicate any feasibility concern of the plastic substrates. Review SLA’s and 3D CAD models with Designers and prototype laboratory to ensure the wrapping feasibility of the substrates. Review DFMEA (Design Failure Mode Effects and Analysis) document with Quality Engineers to create a plan to reduce products risks (RPN’s). Review OKTT CAD and production substrates with Process Engineers to develop proper tools and fixtures for testing and different assembly operations of the End item. Support Cross functional team to ensure the completion of all the stages of the program prior to launch (Management, Production, Purchasing, Quality, etc.)

We are excited to announce an opening for the Project Engineer position! In this role, you will be a vital part of our project team, leading design aspects, maintaining project budgets and schedules, and providing your technical expertise. You’ll have the opportunity to train and mentor project teams on all projects, including those that are more complex and larger in scale. Additionally, you will tackle engineering issues for various land development projects. We’re looking for someone who can develop and demonstrate proficiency in the essential functions of the job outlined below.
As a Project Engineer, you will:
- Direct the project team on various assignments as guided by the Project Manager, offering technical training and support.
- Recommend and implement design changes such as grading, utility sizing, and other modifications as requested by clients.
- Collaborate with project team members and clients to prepare project proposals.
- Draft, review, and finalize preliminary and final site plans, documents, and computations, which include preparing reports, opinions, and recommendations for the Project Manager regarding project direction; hydrology/hydraulic studies, due diligence/site analysis reports, engineer's opinion of probable costs, project schedules, utility computations, detention/retention computations, storm sewer reports, local and state permit applications, storm water reports, soils reports, earthwork volume calculations, StormCAD reports, WaterCAD reports, and preliminary grading.
- Complete edits and modify plans as reviewed by agencies, municipalities, and clients as directed.
- Research local/state requirements on properties and projects for zoning, and conduct site visits and field assignments as needed.
- Review project survey data to analyze existing site conditions and factors for development, including legal descriptions, ALT A surveys, easement documents, and condo documents.
- Provide construction-related services and guide junior team members in completing tasks such as permit applications, cut sheets, quantity estimates, and transmittals; organize site plans, construction plans, construction sheet set-up and assembly, and other related construction documents.
- Review permit applications, quantity and cost estimates, and transmittals, resolve construction issues, and serve as field engineer during construction.
- Support Atwell's training and development programs by providing specialized training and/or mentoring in your area of expertise, preparing and/or reviewing technical training materials, and serving as a technical discipline/subject matter expert.
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and related engineering software packages to complete assignments on time and within the standards outlined in the Atwell Product Quality Manual.
- Initiate communication with clients, municipalities, and agencies as required by the project in accordance with the Project Manager.
- Keep the Project Manager and Team Leader updated on workload status.
- Apply fundamental engineering concepts to practical situations and manage your workload effectively.
Additional certifications or licenses held are a plus!
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Project Engineer
- Provide support and participate in litigation matters by offering expert witness testimony as directed.
- Respond to review letters and modify plans from agencies, municipalities, and clients as directed.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering is required.
PE License is required.
Experience
We’re looking for candidates with four (4) or more years of experience.
Experience with various reports associated with projects such as soil, storm water, storm sewer, FEMA, environmental, traffic, wetlands, lease agreements, easements, covenants and restrictions, purchase agreements, annexation agreements, water flow test reports, etc.
Experience leading to knowledge of the local construction market and contacts is preferred.

We’re searching for a Project Engineer. As a Project Engineer within the Hardware-Operations’ organization, you will lead the introduction of our autonomous vehicle at a contract upfitter during a critical period of rapid production ramp. This multidisciplinary role requires a self-sufficient professional capable of integrating mechanical and electromechanical systems into a high-volume manufacturing environment. You will serve as a vital technical bridge, frequently coordinating with Technical Program Management, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, and Production teams, both internally and externally, to ensure design intent is understood and operationally executed at scale.
This role is based on-site in Livonia (Detroit Metro) with occasional travel to Pittsburgh.

Design material flow processes and storage systems to establish efficient material delivery to the factory and sub-assembly lines for electric vehicle automotive components. Interface with Manufacturing Engineering, Packaging, Logistics Operations, EH&S during launch to develop Material Flow processes and systems. Identify and implement continuous improvement projects. Complete dock utilization analysis, support dynamic simulations, maintain PFEP data, calculate storage space requirements and design material delivery routes. Input and report out KPI data on a weekly basis. Develop business cases as needed for Material Flow installations. Contribute to internal document development, standards, best practices, lessons learned and training modules. Develop requirements for Material Flow equipment: fork trucks, tuggers, dollies, and lineside display. Develop station layouts for lineside operations, offline SPD cells, kitting, and repack activities. General Optimization of floor space, logistics, delivery, and display equipment in the assembly plant. Prioritize Material Flow Layout Engineer activities. Coordinate Layout Engineer and Equipment design staff activities. Experience with installation of material handling equipment such as Rack indexers, turn tables, over/under shuttles, and conveyors. New launch projects on specific production lines focusing on material flow from warehouse to the border of line location. Set up of new part numbers and engineering changes. Creation of station designs from scratch, in base of production rate and according assembly processes.
