Project Description

Functional Safety Engineer, Energy Storage

Redwood Materials is pioneering a sustainable circular economy for lithium-ion batteries by transforming recycled materials into critical inputs for energy storage and next-generation battery technologies. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Functional Safety Engineer to join our team and play a key role in ensuring compliance with functional safety standards and advancing the safe deployment of new energy storage system (ESS) technologies. 

Responsibilities will include: 

• Functional Safety & Compliance: Lead compliance activities for ESS functional safety with a focus on UL 1998 (Software in Programmable Components), UL 991 (Tests for Safety-Related Controls Employing Solid-State Devices), and UL 5500 (Remote Software Updates). Support certification efforts and align product development with functional safety requirements
• Standards Application & Development: Apply safety principles and methodologies to ESS hardware and software. Facilitate and lead the development of FMEA’s, hazard analyses, safety cases, and test strategies. Represent Redwood in standards development activities to help shape emerging requirements for ESS functional safety
• Certification Management: Work with certification bodies (NRTLs) to establish and manage compliance programs for new technologies, ensuring timely approvals to support product introduction milestones. Desired Qualifications:

About Role:

The Senior Manager, Operations Quality Engineering is a leadership position responsible for the strategic direction, daily operations, and long-term success of the company’s Quality and Food Safety department. This role oversees the Quality Engineer II (QE II), Quality Assurance Supervisors, and Quality Technicians to ensure total compliance with Safe Quality Food (SQF) standards, National Organic Program (NOP) requirements, and Fulfilled By Misfits (FBM) initiatives. 1. Leadership & Strategic Management

4. Technical & Systems Management

• System Revamp: Partner with cross-functional teams to improve Jalapeño WMS functionality, including photo documentation for QC functions and enhanced transaction history tracking in line with FDA Traceability requirements.

• Define, design, develop, monitor, and refine an asset maintenance plan that includes value-added preventive maintenance tasks, minimization of high-cost low-value repairs, effective utilization of predictive, and other non-destructive testing methodologies
• Prepare asset documentation package for review of system mechanical design, controls, and software

Staff Electrical Design Engineer, EPC

The Staff Electrical Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end electrical design of industrial, offices, and lab facilities across multiple locations. The role holds full ownership of electrical deliverables — from concept through construction — across a diverse range of project types including hazardous occupancy, recycling facilities, office and labs, warehouse environments, and 34.5 kV/24.9 kV site infrastructure. The engineer is expected to operate with a high degree of independence, serving as Electrical Engineer of Record on assigned projects while coordinating across multiple disciplines to deliver code-compliant, construction-ready packages on schedule and within budget. This position requires a licensed Professional Engineer who is not only highly skilled at performing complex engineering calculations but also motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of communicating effectively at all levels — from field teams to executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities will include:

Mission Brief 

As a Senior Production Engineer, you will serve as the technical authority and process owner for electrical/electronic assemblies and wiring harnesses, covering assembly, endofline testing, and industrialisation. You own the transition from prototype and preseries builds to stable, serial production, ensuring that Electromechanical and electronic products (E/E systems or Avionics) meet stringent performance, functional safety, and reliability requirements for series manufacturing 

You will drive process capability, production readiness (MRL/TRL), efficiency, and equipment strategy while guiding technicians and junior engineers. You will collaborate closely with design engineering, AIT, quality, supply chain, development programs, and external suppliers to deliver scalable, highly reliable avionics production processes.  

Your Role in Our Space Mission: 

• Own the end-to-end manufacturing process for Own the end-to-end manufacturing process for complex electronic and electromechanical systems, including assembly, integration, routing and interconnection concepts, termination, and acceptance testing.  
• Lead industrialization and New Product Introduction for new hardware systems, control plans, process capability studies, and production validation processes.  
• Production Management: Oversee daytoday production activities for system assembly and integration, ensuring adherence to production plans, quality standards, and safety requirements. 
  Define, approve, and manage investments in tooling, test equipment, fixtures, workstations, and measurement systems. 
• Own cost, schedule, and capacity planning for production, including forecasting, optimisation, and continuous improvement of takt time, throughput, and resource utilization.

Scout Motors Internship Program 

We will provide aspiring professionals with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with our talented, inclusive, and entrepreneurial teams. Undergraduate Interns will immerse themselves in the rugged SUVs and trucks landscape, gaining exposure to the latest trends, technologies, and market dynamics. Interns will be assigned meaningful projects aligned with Scout’s goals. These projects will challenge interns to apply their academic knowledge in real-world scenarios, fostering problem-solving skills and creativity while working under the mentorship of our leaders. 

This program is designed for current undergraduate students who live in our local market. Please note that no housing stipend is provided.
