We are looking for a strong Software Development Manager to lead high-impact teams within the PlayStation SDK Developer Host Tools division.

MongoDB's Application Modernization Platform (AMP) team aims to grow the adoption of MongoDB by accelerating the rate at which legacy applications built on RDBMS can be modernized to MongoDB. The AMP team uses a combination of proprietary GenAI and deterministic tools combined with modernization techniques (methodologies) developed over numerous customer engagements to modernize legacy applications to MongoDB. This involves modernizing both the application tier by decomposing the legacy application into services and building modern services on MongoDB. Our modernization methodologies involve apply specialized tools that automate a wide variety of modernization tasks including analyzing legacy code bases to figure out how to disaggregate them, transforming legacy code (PL/SQL, T-SQL, Java, C#) to modern application frameworks on MongoDB, automated test generation, and side-by-side testing (legacy vs. modern).  

We are looking for a Solutions Architect to support the sales and delivery of modernization engagements. Candidates must be located in North America near an airport that will enable them to easily visit customer sites in North America or Europe.

This role will be based remotely in Ireland.

Roles Responsibilities

MongoDB is looking for an outstanding person to join our newly created Forward Deployed Engineering team and take on a key role in our extended R&D organization. Forward Deployed Engineering is linking the work of teams engaged on application modernization roles with our Product and Engineering teams.

Many organizations have built up large estates of legacy applications. Lack of scalability and resilience, long development times, operating cost, and inability to run on cloud are common issues with these applications. To address these issues, organizations are engaging in large transformational Application Modernisation programs. MongoDB is recognized as the developer data platform of choice for transactional systems that provide the best scalability, resiliency and developer experience in the cloud as well as on premises. Organizations are continuously migrating workloads from these legacy applications to new platforms, often based on microservices, using MongoDB. 

Such transformations are time intensive and often risky. Tooling based on generative AI promises to accelerate these transformations in a way never seen before. Forward Deployed Engineering is responsible for exploring the possibilities of Generative AI  technologies and providing invaluable feedback to MongoDB’s R&D teams to drive future capabilities of MongoDB and the MongoDB ecosystem.

Application Modernization Engineers will work alongside project teams that are executing Application Modernisation projects with customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluation, build, and applying tools in modernization  projects, facilitating the usage of such tools and processes across the different project teams, identifying opportunities for tooling deployment, selecting potential 3rd party tools, contributing to the development of tooling prototypes and helping to shape the product roadmap.

This role can be based out of our Dublin office or remotely in Ireland.

Our ideal candidate will have

• 4+ years of experience as a field engineer or professional services consultant or full stack developer working directly with Enterprise clients 
• Proficiency in Java or C#, and some familiarity with common database access patterns and frameworks in one or more of these languages
• Strong knowledge about enterprise-scale software architectures, application development methodologies, and software deployment and operations
• Experience developing enterprise applications using relational databases, and employing SQL and stored procedures with Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase and/or PostgreSQL databases
• Experience of using and developing with MongoDB and JSON based Document models is highly desirable
• Problem solving skills, including the ability to collaborate across disciplines and teams to come up with creative solutions to technical and business challenges

Position Expectations

• Contribute to customer application modernization initiatives at any or all phases of the application lifecycle: assessment and analysis; planning and design; data modeling; application code conversion, development, test and build; integration and release configuration, production operations, application optimisation, and best practices adoption
• Test drive MongoDB migration products to deliver on customer use cases and drive adoption of the product. Deliver concise feedback to the rest of the development organisation
• Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to influence the direction of the MongoDB product roadmap
• Personally execute POCs including developing or extending existing tools when necessary and appropriate for customer success, with an eye towards reusability and eventual integration with our products. These are often on premises at client locations
• Maintain a broad and deep technical understanding of the product line and the underlying technologies and protocols
• Work as part of a wider delivery team comprising consulting engineers from MongoDB Professional Services, project managers, and account teams

Candidate Profile

As a Senior Developer Advocate, you are a competent developer ready to peer, mentor, and lead development teams as they solve their enterprise's most critical data issues. You’re an excellent public speaker and are comfortable delivering live enablement sessions to technical audiences of up to 400 or more. As a bonus, your experience also includes exercising soft leadership with decision makers in organizations for defining, adopting, and scaling data-related technologies.

With a combination of software engineering, solutions development, consulting experience, and developer relations, you have a deep understanding of developer ecosystems and how developers best acquire fluency in new technologies. You have a solid working knowledge of databases, database performance, schema design, and optimizing production applications at scale. The Backup Team delivers essential infrastructure to help our customers in their hour of need - providing the ability to quickly restore a massive, distributed database to any point in time at the click of a button. The Backup Team’s mission is to make MongoDB backup more reliable, faster, and also cheaper.  This team is responsible for the Backup Agent (Go), the extensive server-side infrastructure (Java) which manages 100s of TB of data and processes billions of operations per day, and the user interface (Javascript)  that customers use to manage their backups. In this role, you will work with global peers on teams dedicated to areas of the product portfolio, from the product, design, infrastructure, architecture, and back/front-end engineering teams. You will be responsible for the continued enhancement and development of a multi-component platform, where your expert skills in designing, architecting, and building quality systems will intersect with your hands-on coding, performance testing, and integrating experience.
