VTEX DCS Program

VTEX DCS is a global program that prepares recent graduates to become specialists in the Digital Commerce industry. During the program, participants receive the most crucial knowledge and skills in high demand in the market, especially in solution architecture. Lasting for 18 months, the program combines a full-time employment opportunity with a learning program that offers an innovative and unique approach provided by the EICOM Institute.​

Requirements  

• Bachelor's degree. For this edition, your graduation date must be between December 2023 and July 2026.
• Proficiency in written and oral English is a must; additional languages such Spanish and Portuguese are a plus.
• You must reside or have availability to work in São Paulo, and attend the office 4 days a week. Please note: VTEX is not responsible for relocation costs.
• Previous experience in ecommerce and B2B companies is preferable.
• Programming and IA skills can be an advantage but are not a requirement.

How does the DCS Program work?

The DCS Program has two main pillars – Hands-on Experience and Learning Experience – that will teach you all you need to know to pursue a career as a Solution Architect, Commerce engineering or Solution engineering.

Hands-on experience

The Role

As a Product Engineer at Counterpart, you own problems and drive outcomes. You iron out requirements with stakeholders, partners, and customers. You leverage AI for implementation. You verify the end-to-end result. You iterate until you move the needle.

You run projects with other Product Engineers and AI agents. You know when to delegate to a human, when to delegate to an agent, and when to do it yourself. 

YOU WILL

Own the Problem

• Take accountability for the outcome. 
• Talk directly to your users, stakeholders, and peers to discover the problem. 
• Translate business intents into functional requirements that engineers and agents can build against. Determine where human judgment is non-negotiable and where AI can augment or act autonomously. 
• Own the non-functional technical requirements. Specify the quality bar: performance, scalability, reliability, security, maintainability.

Build with AI

• Write production-quality code across the stack: Python, Django, AWS, React, and PostgreSQL. You are not afraid of any layer.
• Direct agents and review their output with domain depth. Catch what they miss across the functional and non-functional bar: correctness, edge cases, performance, security, testability, readability.
• Evaluate and improve agent output regularly. Track failure modes. Refine the prompts and patterns that lift the quality ceiling over time.
• Run projects that span other Product Engineers and agents. Coordinate work, manage dependencies, and keep things moving without micromanaging.
• Contribute to architectural decisions. Bring options and alternatives, not objections. Know when the elegant solution is the wrong call for a startup moving fast.
• Contribute to and manage the context harness as you build and deliver.

Verify and Iterate

• Surface delivery risks early. Bring solutions, not just problems. Keep your stakeholders informed without turning every risk into a meeting.
• Verify the end-to-end result yourself. Confirm the system does what the requirements say, and that the requirements were right.
• Drive adoption of what you ship. Documentation, enablement, and usage monitoring are part of the job.
• Monitor your services in production. Own the signal. Debug and fix what breaks.
• Participate in support rotations. When users run into issues with what you shipped, you investigate and fix them.
• Iterate until you move the needle. Shipping is not the finish line. Outcome is.

Raise the Bar

• Mentor engineers around you. Give direct, useful feedback. Leave things better than you found them.
• Make deliberate calls on technical debt: when to accumulate it, when to pay it down, when to refactor. Translate trade-offs into language that business leaders can act on.
• Operate to the engineering standards for quality, reliability, and operational excellence.

YOU HAVE

• 10+ years building production web applications across the full stack. The years are the floor, not the bar. What matters is whether you have actually done this: owned a problem end-to-end, written the spec, built the thing, coordinated the work, and shipped it without someone else holding the thread.
• Demonstrated experience gathering requirements directly. You have interviewed users, customers, and partner teams, and turned ambiguous intent into specs that engineers and agents can build against.
• Demonstrated experience owning both functional and non-functional requirements. You have defined what a system must do and held the line on how well it must do it.
• A track record of owning a domain or initiative without close supervision. You have navigated ambiguity, made judgment calls, and been accountable for the outcome.
• Extreme ownership and a bias for action. You do not sit and wait. You chase stakeholders, customers, and answers when you need them.
• Experience coordinating across engineers and AI agents on a shared initiative. You have managed the work without holding a formal management title.
• Strong technical judgment and the depth to catch what AI-generated code gets wrong: not syntax, but correctness, architecture, intent.
• Proficiency with Python and Django. Working knowledge of TypeScript, React, and PostgreSQL.
• Proficiency in developing with AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Codex, similar) and the drive to stay ahead of how AI development practices are evolving.
• Domain curiosity. You learn the business context your work supports, not just the systems. You understand why the problem matters, not just how to solve it.
• The ability to communicate clearly across engineering, product, and business, translating technical complexity without losing meaning.
• Low ego and high Emotional Quotient (EQ). You influence without authority, take feedback well, and leave your ego out of technical decisions.
• Experience working with distributed, remote teams.

HOW THIS ROLE WORKS

Product Engineering exists to collapse the distance between a problem and a working solution. You own a problem or part of a vision. You shape it with stakeholders. You build it with AI. You verify it end-to-end. You iterate until the metric moves.

You work within the Context Architecture, a shared system of documentation, design patterns, and domain knowledge that gives you the technical context to make autonomous decisions at every step.

This is not a role for engineers who need to be told how. It is a role for engineers who can take a problem, fill in the gaps with good judgment, and ship something that works.

Our estimated pay range for this role is USD $90,000 - $110,000 annually. Contractor compensation is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, market data, location, internal equitability, and experience.

About the Role: 

We are seeking a technically strong, hands-on Senior Database Reliability Engineer to help design, build, and scale the database platform used across Sezzle’s applications.

This is not a traditional DBA role. This role is for an engineer who can combine deep database knowledge with software engineering, infrastructure engineering, and platform thinking. You will help build the systems, libraries, automation, standards, and guardrails that make database usage across Sezzle reliable, secure, scalable, and easy for developers to adopt correctly.

What You'll Do:

• Design, build, and maintain shared database platform components used by Sezzle applications, such as database connection packages, database client libraries, migration tooling, safety checks, query standards, and developer-facing abstractions.

This team builds the core backend services that power how customers model, manage, and secure organizations in Backblaze. That includes organization and account lifecycle management, identity and access foundations, and a modern role-based access control system that governs access to resources at scale.

About the Role

In this role, you will design and build highly available backend services and APIs in our Kotlin/Java ecosystem and will work on front-end applications written in React and Typescript. You will work on systems that sit at the center of customer administration, authorization, and resource orchestration, with design challenges shaped by ideas found in platforms such as AWS IAM, GCP IAM, and Azure RBAC.

This is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys building foundational platform capabilities, can reason rigorously about security and correctness, and is comfortable owning complex systems through design, implementation, rollout, and operation. We also value engineers who use modern AI tools effectively to accelerate development, improve design quality, and strengthen security and maintainability.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and evolve scalable backend services and APIs in Kotlin and Java, with strong attention to performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
• Develop core platform capabilities, including organizational resource hierarchies and access policies.
• Partner with adjacent platform and product teams to integrate with authentication, storage, billing, and other shared systems.
• Write technical designs, break down ambiguous problems, and drive projects from concept through production rollout.
• Own the full delivery lifecycle for the systems you build, including schema design, migrations, testing strategy, deployment, observability, and operational readiness.
• Diagnose and resolve complex production issues involving distributed services, MySQL/Vitess, and cross-service dependencies.
• Improve system security, correctness, and developer velocity through thoughtful design, automation, and use of modern AI-assisted engineering tools.
• Contribute to engineering excellence through code review, design review, mentoring, and raising the technical bar across the team.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Security, QA, Support, Finance, and other partners to translate business and operational requirements into robust technical solutions.

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial experience building and operating production backend services.
• Strong experience with Java and/or Kotlin in a production environment.
• Experience designing and evolving APIs and service interfaces, including compatibility, migrations, and staged rollouts.
• Experience building scalable, reliable distributed systems and debugging issues in production.
• Strong foundation in data modeling and relational database development, including MySQL or similar systems.
• Experience with containerized development and deployment environments.
• Experience with observability practices and tools for metrics, logging, and operational debugging.
• Sound judgment in secure system design, access control, and backend application security fundamentals.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical work across the full software development lifecycle.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and non-engineering partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Protocol Buffers and gRPC, including schema evolution and service design.
• Experience with Vitess, sharded relational systems, or other large-scale SQL platforms.
• Experience building identity, access management, policy, or authorization systems.
• Experience working across a polyglot stack that includes backend and TypeScript-based clients and tooling.
• Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Gemini, or similar to improve engineering productivity and code quality.
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction beyond your immediate project area.

What You'll Do: 

• Help own and build out new features within our cross-platform TypeScript React Native app, and Golang backend APIs.
• Manage our releases, using tools like cohorting, feature flags, and app-store infrastructure to ensure a safe rollout to our millions of active users.
• Maintain a strong working relationship with product, design, and the business to ensure stakeholder needs are being evaluated and met.
• Work with the team to continuously build clean, scalable, robust, and testable code.
• Develop a deep working knowledge of your application, data domain, and KPIs.

What We Look For: 

• 6+ years experience solving technical problems as part of a team.
• Experience developing and delivering a mobile application to Apple and Google’s mobile app stores.
• Strong familiarity with modern Frontend Development, Javascript or Typescript, and building applications with React Native, or similar cross-platform framework.
