About the Role
Accelerating clinical research is one of the defining challenges in healthcare. Promising therapies exist that patients can't access because the operational infrastructure to run clinical trials efficiently doesn't exist yet. We're building it. That means designing technology systems that bring order to a fragmented landscape of clinical data sources, automating the operational work that slows trials down, and turning real-world clinical data into a foundation for predictive intelligence.
We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to own the design and implementation of the core systems that make this possible. This means building robust integrations across a complex, fragmented landscape of EHRs, CTMS platforms, and clinical data sources, each with its own data models, access patterns, and operational constraints. It also means building the data infrastructure that powers our predictive capabilities: the pipelines, feature stores, and training infrastructure that allow us to move from raw clinical data to models that meaningfully improve trial execution. This is a generalist role for someone who thinks in systems. You'll move between architecture and implementation, between integration engineering and ML infrastructure, between defining technical strategy and writing the code that proves it out. The problems are genuinely hard, largely unsolved, and what you build will matter.
This is an opportunity for someone who wants to be a part of a small, fast moving engineering team at a formative stage. You'll shape what gets built, how decisions get made, and what the team becomes.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical architecture for our core systems and build the foundational abstractions and interfaces that everything else is built on top of
- Build reliable integrations with dozens of external clinical data systems (EHRs, CTMS, eSource, labs), treating this as a hard systems design problem, not just an ingestion problem
- Build and evolve the infrastructure that supports model training and predictive capabilities, from ingestion through feature engineering and serving
- Move fast by prototyping to drive experimentation; derisk ideas quickly to keep the team building what works
- Evaluate and choose the technologies we build on: make build vs. buy decisions, select vendors, and shape our long-term infrastructure strategy
- Make the key technical tradeoffs between speed and durability, between generality and shipping
- Work across product, clinical operations, and data science to make sure you're solving the right problems, not just the interesting ones
- Help shape the engineering culture of a small, growing team: how technical decisions get made, how problems get debated, what rigor looks like in practice
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Have 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time spent designing and building systems not just features
- Experience with healthcare data systems (HL7, FHIR, EHR/EMR integrations) or other highly regulated data environments
- Have 2+ years experience working in a high-growth startup environment
- Have deep experience with system integration, particularly across unreliable or heterogeneous external data sources
- Can think through and explain the full picture of a complex system while still being effective at the implementation level
- Experience using AI tooling and frameworks as part of your engineering workflow
- Have built data pipelines and infrastructure that support analytical or ML workloads in production
- Strong across the backend stack (Python, SQL, cloud infrastructure) and can pick up new tools and systems quickly
- Have built systems from early stages, making foundational decisions with incomplete information, not just extending established infrastructure
- Naturally raise the quality of the engineering around you through code review, architecture guidance, and honest technical conversation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building ML training infrastructure or feature platforms
- Familiarity with clinical operations, systems, or life sciences data
- SOC 2, HIPAA or similar compliance experience baked into engineering practice
- A track record of building systems that had to work correctly under real operational constraints, scale and complexity

About the Team

The Advanced Development organisation pushes beyond the boundaries of product lines to build new things. We think independently of standard shipping cadences and timelines, working on foundational technologies that will impact every Roku device in the future, and on ideas that no one has seen before in their living room. About the role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with an interest in driving our platform emulation product forward. You will be working on a software PAL version of the Roku OS which represents real hardware but facilities wider scale testing accessed via cloud hosting and web/API for internal users and Roku Partner development teams.
This is a very diverse role with exciting challenges and opportunities. One day you might be doing video decoding, or audio distribution, or tweaking docker, or testing app development or build tasks or cloud integration, or security or a ton of other things. Every day is going to be a different problem and an opportunity to really learn about a lot of new tech and help design the infrastructure of a pretty complex system.
What You’ll be doing
- Focus on the Native Build of Roku OS, which operates without physical hardware - drive forward the development and continue to keep the platform current and meeting the needs of internal and external users - covers both hand-on development and working with other teams to support them.
- Solve design problems in embedded software, application SDKs, networking, graphics, UIs, media and other areas across Advanced Engineering, always with an eye on the resource constraints of our players and TVs
- Write efficient software that can be easily ported to new or existing platforms
- Demonstrate excellence in C++ development and deliver high-performance, ultra-reliable software
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues to ensure optimal performance and user satisfaction.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to best practices in software development.
We’re excited if you have

- 5+ years Linux systems programming
- Excellent modern C++ programming skills
- An understanding of compilers and how code changes will impact resources and performance

Senior Backend Software Engineer (Video Engineering)
Video is at the core of Philo and what customers engage with the most: watching their favorite shows. The Video Infrastructure team is crucial for delivering on this high expectation, and — together with the Ads team — for generating significant revenue through advertising. We own the systems that get every frame of Philo to every screen: live and video on demand transcoding, DRM and license servers, manifest generation that holds up under peak live events, and Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI). We support playback across all major streaming platforms, and partner closely with the Ads, Client, and Data teams to build out the end-to-end video player and ad experience. We increasingly apply machine learning to inspect both content and ads — surfacing quality issues, optimizing encodes, and improving the viewing experience in ways that weren't possible a few years ago.
Philo's video streaming infrastructure is highly distributed, horizontally scalable, and harnesses the power of cloud computing to deliver video at exabyte scale. Our video pipeline, developed in-house, uses industry-leading commercial and open source components to transcode, package in real-time, and generate HLS and DASH manifests on a per-user, per-session basis. The team also builds and maintains highly available RESTful web services that dynamically scale to meet the ever-increasing demands of simultaneous video streams across our platform.
We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Software Engineer to help us build and optimize the next generation of our video ingest, transcode and delivery platform. This is a high impact role that influences every video stream that Philo serves. If you endeavor to see how your work directly impacts end-users this is the role for you.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, deploy and monitor the next generation of Philo’s video streaming pipeline, using a combination of in-house technology and open source software.
- Collaborate with content partners to engineer systems that deliver the best possible TV watching experience for Philo’s users.
- Build scalable and resilient data pipelines for ingesting video and analytics events using distributed computing and micro-services architecture principles.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across video delivery, ad operations, and data science teams to ensure we are measuring and optimizing every aspect of our video delivery process and our users’ viewing experience.
- Drive continuous improvements to the reliability, performance, latency and security of Philo’s video streaming platform.
- Drive evaluation, selection, and development of video encoding technologies to optimize video quality and reduce CDN delivery costs.
- Assist our client engineering teams in testing and improving video streaming QoE as we develop Philo apps for several new platforms.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of software development experience.
- Proven track record of building highly efficient and highly available software using Golang, Java, C++ or similar programming languages.
- Deep experience with concurrent programming.
- Experience building concurrent HA and high throughput RESTful web services.
- Experience operating in cloud computing environments using modern software deployment technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes).
- Demonstrated ability to own and drive complex architectural/development tasks to completion by following Scrum/Agile methodologies.
- Experience working with large amounts of data and making data-based decisions to prioritize projects, including familiarity with relational and non-relational databases and modern data warehousing and querying.

The Role
We're hiring a Senior Fullstack Engineer to ship products end-to-end across our CRM platform for distributors. This is a generalist role: any layer of the stack, any type of work — frontend, backend, data, integrations — wherever the user impact is. You'll work closely with PMs, designers, and other engineers to scope, build, and deploy features that distributors feel directly. Periodically, you'll work directly with customers to support onboarding, troubleshoot integrations, and help distributors get the most out of the platform. You'll be the person who can sit with a customer's IT team, understand how their ERP is configured, and translate that into something Proton can work with. Expect occasional travel to customer sites a few times a year.
Two things make this role different from a standard fullstack opening:
- You're an AI-native operator, not a code writer. Every engineer at Proton uses Claude Code (and other agentic dev tools) as a first-class collaborator. We expect features to be designed, built, reviewed, tested, and shipped with heavy AI leverage. You should already work this way — guiding agents, structuring context, validating output, and making judgment calls AI can't.
- You're a generalist by default. We don't silo engineers into "frontend only" or "backend only." When a feature needs a Vue component, a Python handler, a Postgres migration, an Airflow DAG, and an ERP integration, you're expected to handle all of it — with AI doing the typing and you doing the thinking.
Location: Boston-based. Hybrid, 3 days/week in our office at Harvard Square, Cambridge.
Compensation: $150k – $200k base salary, depending on experience. Includes equity and full benefits.
What You'll Do
- Own end-to-end delivery of features — from refining tickets to deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
- Operate AI coding agents (Claude Code and similar) at a high level: scope work, structure context, run multiple agents in parallel where it makes sense, and ship reviewed, production-quality output.
- Move fluidly across the stack — TypeScript/Vue on the frontend, Python on the backend, SQL and data modeling, infra touchpoints. Pick up whatever the work needs.
- Collaborate in a squad model with PMs, designers, and engineers; participate in 2-week sprints, standups, refinements, retros, and code reviews.
- Design schemas, queries, and APIs that hold up at scale — performance, reliability, and correctness are on you, not on the agent.
- Contribute to engineering practices: better patterns, better tooling, better ways to use AI across the team.
- Spend time with customers onsite a few times a year — distributors operate in
warehouses and on sales floors, and the best product calls come from being there in
person.
Requirements
- 5+ years as a software engineer with real, demonstrable fullstack delivery — production systems, real users, real ownership. Resume-level hands-on experience, not LLM-generated portfolios.
- Strong fundamentals. You understand what the code is doing and why. You can read a stack trace, reason about a query plan, debug a race condition, and tell when an agent is wrong. We are explicitly not hiring "vibe coders" who depend on AI to compensate for missing fundamentals — AI amplifies seniority, it doesn't replace it.
- Daily, hands-on use of agentic dev tools. Claude Code, Cursor agent mode, Codex, or equivalent — used to ship real features, not just autocomplete. You can talk concretely about how you structure prompts, manage context, parallelize agents, and verify their output.
- Generalist instinct. You're comfortable jumping between Vue, Python, SQL, infra, and integrations. You don't wait for someone else to take the layer you're "not assigned to."
- Database and systems chops. You design efficient schemas and queries, understand indexing and tradeoffs, and can reason about distributed-system failure modes.
- Startup mindset. Pragmatic, fast, biased to ship, comfortable with ambiguity, close to users.
- Strong communication. You can explain technical decisions to PMs, designers, and customers — in writing and in person.
- Ownership and judgment. You take features from idea to production and exercise good taste on what to build, what to cut, and when AI output isn't good enough.
Big Plus
- Experience building integrations with distribution ERPs (Epicor Eclipse, P21, or similar) — ingesting orders, products, customers, pricing; reconciling messy real-world data. Bonus if you've done this in a customer-facing or implementation context.
- Experience building or integrating with agentic products — MCP servers, tool-using agents, agent frameworks, evals, prompt/context engineering at the system level.

- Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or related UI frameworks), C#, XAML, and — when needed — C++.
- Define and enforce best-practices for Windows desktop development across the codebase: code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability.
- Drive accessibility efforts: integrate and validate support for accessibility APIs (e.g. Microsoft UI Automation or other relevant Windows accessibility frameworks), ensure UI controls, focus management, keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities.
- Collaborate closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and long-term roadmap for the Windows platform.
- Take ownership of full lifecycle of features: conception → design → implementation → testing → release → maintenance. Ensure quality, reliability, and consistency across releases.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, or compatibility problems — and propose robust architectural or design solutions.
Required:
- 3+ in Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar), C#, XAML — and ideally additional experience with native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM).
- Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed code (.NET) and native code.
- Proven track record of designing, building, and shipping production-quality desktop applications, with an emphasis on reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Strong experience with accessibility APIs on Windows (e.g. Microsoft UI Automation or similar), and a dedication to building accessible and inclusive software.
- Excellent software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading or asynchronous programming (where relevant).
- Experience leading technical design, mentoring other engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions.
- Strong communication skills; ability to articulate tradeoffs, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive consensus.
- A user-centric mindset: focus on building polished, intuitive, and accessible experiences for end users.
Preferred / Bonus:
- Experience with writing automated tests for UI — unit tests, integration tests, UI automation tests; familiarity with relevant testing frameworks.
- Experience with performance optimization for desktop apps (memory usage, startup time, rendering performance, high-DPI support, responsiveness under load).

Overview
We're looking to hire for our Data side of our AI team at Speechify. This role is responsible for all aspects of data collection to support our model training operations. We are able to build high-quality datasets at petabyte-scale and low cost through a tight integration of infrastructure, engineering, and research work. We are looking for a skilled Software Engineer to join us.
What You’ll Do
- Be scrappy to find new sources of audio data and bring it into our ingestion pipeline
- Operate and extend the cloud infrastructure for our ingestion pipeline, currently running on GCP and managed with Terraform.
- Collaborate closely with our Scientists to shift the cost/throughput/quality frontier, delivering richer data at bigger scale and lower cost to power our next-generation models.
- Collaborate with others on the AI Team and Speechify Leadership to craft the AI Team’s dataset roadmap to power Speechify’s next-generation consumer and enterprise products.
An Ideal Candidate Should Have
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
- 5+ years of industry experience in software development.
- Proficiency with bash/Python scripting in Linux environments
- Proficiency in Docker and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts and professional experience with at least one major Cloud Provider (we use GCP)
- Experience with web crawlers, large-scale data processing workflows is a plus

They ship the agents, the integrations, and the interfaces that make that possible.
The Scientific System of Record Team (SSR) - They build the memory layer for Lila's operations. It answers two questions:what did we plan to build? and what actually happened? These systems connect scientific intent to physical reality. Together with the data and automation teams, their systems ensure reproducibility and close the Design-Build-Test-Learn (DBTL) loop.
The Lab as Software Team (LaS)- They act as the physical and virtual execution layer for Lila's AI-driven science. This connects the Lila App to AI Science Factories (AISFs), the mechanism through which experiments are dispatched to real instruments. This team owns the full stack of lab integration: orchestration of labflows, instrument integrations, bi-directional data transfer, and the UI/UX that AI scientists and operators use to interact with the lab.
The Data Platform Team (Data)- They build and support the data systems that underpins Lila's AI Science Factory™. Every experiment run in our labs, every measurement from an instrument, and every signal from our operational systems flows through the platform they build. Their work spans real-time ingestion, large-scale analytical storage, workflow orchestration, and the self-service tools scientists, engineers, and ML teams use to go from raw measurements to discoveries. They build the data backbone of Scientific Superintelligence™, so the science moves faster and each experiment makes the next one smarter.
What You'll Be Building
- Design & Build UI and APIs: Design and build high-performance, secure, and well-documented UI and APIs that integrate with AI-driven applications.
- Database Architecture & Scaling: Develop schemas and manage diverse data systems (SQL, NoSQL, Vector DBs, and others) for optimal performance and scalability.
- Application Development: Drive the implementation of front-end and backend services, focusing on performance, maintainability, and reliability.
- Performance & Reliability: Diagnose and optimize system bottlenecks, ensuring high availability and low-latency performance across large-scale workloads.
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Leverage AWS services, Kubernetes and modern DevOps practices to build and deploy production-grade systems at scale.

- Hands on experience using AI coding assistants to drive productivity is required.

The Lab as Software Team (LaS)- They act as the physical and virtual execution layer for Lila's AI-driven science. This connects the Lila App to AI Science Factories (AISFs), the mechanism through which experiments are dispatched to real instruments. This team owns the full stack of lab integration: orchestration of labflows, instrument integrations, bi-directional data transfer, and the UI/UX that AI scientists and operators use to interact with the lab.
The Data Platform Team (Data)- They build and support the data systems that underpins Lila's AI Science Factory™. Every experiment run in our labs, every measurement from an instrument, and every signal from our operational systems flows through the platform they build. Their work spans real-time ingestion, large-scale analytical storage, workflow orchestration, and the self-service tools scientists, engineers, and ML teams use to go from raw measurements to discoveries. They build the data backbone of Scientific Superintelligence™, so the science moves faster and each experiment makes the next one smarter.
What You'll Be Building
- Design & Build UI and APIs: Design and build high-performance, secure, and well-documented UI and APIs that integrate with AI-driven applications.

Qualifications:

THE ROLE
As a Principal Backend Engineer, you’ll be a technical leader responsible for architecting, building, and scaling the core backend systems that power our platform. Lead Backend Software Engineer (Product)
Philo aims to connect customers with their favorite shows, help them discover new favorites, and get them seamlessly into the video player watching their next shows. The Product API team is central to this mission and powers virtually every non-media interaction in our application delivering a personalized experience for millions of users across web, mobile, and connected TV platforms.
The team builds out the Philo show catalog and exposes it via search, ML powered recommendation, and platform integration like search on Roku, FireTV, and tvOS. They provide a robust API to clients platforms to access this catalog along with features needed for a streaming service like saving shows, sending notifications, and running experiments. They do this all while load testing and scaling the system to millions of users and considering security and privacy. A challenge for the team is to support many different clients and the team has built out frameworks, infrastructure, and APIs to enable this. For example, building out a framework on top of GraphQL to dynamically change the home page instantly and across all platforms without any client modification allowing for content curation, user personalization, and all types of home page experimentation.
Engineering leads at Philo lead by example, and are expected to ship features, triage bugs, manage releases, and generally advocate for quality throughout the codebase. We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced backend engineer with a deep technical background building scalable APIs, services, and platform infrastructure. You will contribute to the technical vision and roadmap for Product API, drive architecture and reliability with strong observability, coordinate cross-team delivery to unblock new user experiences, and ensure partner integrations land smoothly. You'll model best practices to the team, unblock your teammates when they are stuck, and help ensure platform stability and clarity of contracts as the team delivers multi-quarter outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership to members of the Product API team, including input on system architecture and design tradeoffs, as well as coaching other members of the team and mentoring new hires.
- Collaborate with product and client engineering teams to design and deliver GraphQL APIs that enable rich, performant user experiences while maintaining clean separation of concerns and optimal client-server interactions.
- Own and evolve critical product subsystems including recommendations, catalog, search, in-app notifications, user preferences, viewing history, collections, experiments, and feature flags.
- Build and maintain proxy and augmentation layers that integrate domain services from across the organization (such as video infrastructure, recommendations systems, and search) into a cohesive, unified API.
- Drive continuous improvements to the reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability of Philo's product API infrastructure, ensuring sub-second response times and high availability across all endpoints.

Qualifications
- 8+ years of software development experience.
- 2+ years of experience mentoring and providing technical guidance to other engineers (bonus points for experience or interest in managing engineering teams).
- Strong experience designing and implementing GraphQL APIs at scale (bonus points for experience with complex schema design, query optimization, and federation patterns).
- Proven track record of building highly efficient and highly available backend services using NodeJS, Ruby, Golang, Python, or similar programming languages.
- Experience operating in cloud computing environments using modern software deployment technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, AWS).
- Deep understanding of API design principles, RESTful and GraphQL patterns, caching strategies, and performance optimization techniques.

We are language agnostic, but most of our backend code is written in Golang, NodeJS and Ruby, with some C++ and Python. Our services run on Kubernetes, and we practice continuous deployment across all of our systems.

Compensation: Includes annual salary, company stock options, and health benefits. Salary is determined by experience and location:
- San Francisco, New York City: $200K - $235K
- Boston, DC Metro, Los Angeles, Seattle: $190K - $225K
- Denver, Atlanta, Austin, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Chicago: $180K - $215K
- Texas, Florida: $170K - $205K
