Role Overview

What’s Exciting About the Role

Verifone is seeking a Kafka DevOps Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. This is an operations-first role with a strong emphasis on scripting, automation, and pipeline development. You’ll be hands-on with day-to-day Kafka operations, reliability, tuning, and high availability for payment gateway solutions that process billions of transactions annually on-prem and in AWS Cloud. Beyond keeping the lights on, you’ll play a key role in building the data pipelines—of which Kafka is a core component—that power Verifone’s new AI, machine learning, and analytics initiatives. Key Responsibilities

Kafka Operations & Reliability

• Manage and support Apache Kafka clusters (including MSK), Kafka Connect ecosystem, and KSQL for high-throughput, fault-tolerant messaging and event streaming pipelines.
• Monitor system health, set up alerts, and drive incident response and root cause analysis (RCA).
• Handle day-to-day operational tasks including offset management, lag monitoring, consumer group management, and cluster rebalancing.
• Perform routine cluster maintenance: upgrades, configuration changes, scaling, and health checks.

Scripting, Automation & DevOps

• Develop and manage automation scripts using Python and Shell scripting to reduce manual toil and improve operational efficiency.

• Continuously identify and implement improvements to the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Manage cloud infrastructure on AWS (VMs, networking, storage, IAM, etc.).
• Support cloud migration tasks and assist in moving workloads between on-prem and cloud environments.

Required Qualifications / Skills

• 4+ years of overall engineering experience with 2+ years of hands-on experience supporting Kafka infrastructure in a large-scale production environment.
• Kafka Producer/Consumer microservices concepts and Kafka distributed architecture.
• Solid Linux fundamentals: networking basics, logs, system troubleshooting, process/memory, disk.
• Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash) with a track record of reducing operational toil.
• CI/CD pipeline development and Infrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform preferred).

Java Backend Engineer

JOB OVERVIEW

The Legion application is a high-performance data-driven Java enterprise application that implements sophisticated scheduling and optimization algorithms. It also provides the necessary endpoints for our Web and mobile frontend applications. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a member of the team responsible for the implementation and evolution of this application. You will need to be able to write secure, efficient, enterprise-quality Java code, and have a deep understanding of the techniques and technologies that are necessary for scalability and performance. You will also need knowledge and experience with data modeling and relational databases. Our application runs on AWS, so experience with containerization and cloud deployments is desirable. We're using Springboot, Hibernate, MySQL, and JSON, so familiarity with these technologies will be helpful. Frontend experience in JavaScript and Angular and/or React is a big plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Develop features with high quality and on-time
• Thorough understanding of product area 
• Assist with feature design along with CTO/Architect
• Develop features keeping in mind best coding practices including performance and user experience

• Test features before asking QA engineers to test
• Write unit tests
• Work with QA engineers to test the product end-to-end

Senior Production Engineer

JOB OVERVIEW

Are you passionate about automation, cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, and reliability engineering? As a Senior Production Engineer (SRE) at Legion, you will build and operate a secure, highly scalable, and cost-effective AWS/Kubernetes-based cloud platform. You will work across infrastructure automation, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and production reliability. Simply put, the SRE team ensures Legion’s platform is reliable, scalable, and continuously improving for our customers.

This role includes participation in an on-call rotation.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Support and operate Legion’s AWS-based cloud platform and Kubernetes (EKS) environments.
• Leverage GenAI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, or similar) to accelerate infrastructure development, automation, and auto-remediation of common production issues.
• Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Terraform.
• Develop automation and internal tooling using Go or Python.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines to increase deployment safety and velocity.
• Define and improve monitoring, alerting, and observability systems.
• Respond to production incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement systemic improvements.
• Develop and automate operational runbooks and remediation workflows.
• Support production deployments, including during off-hours as needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• 5-8+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, or SaaS production operations.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience operating production workloads in AWS.
• 5+ years of experience with observability tools such as Datadog, CloudWatch, ELK stack, Prometheus, or similar.
• 3+ years experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices, including managing complex multi-region deployments with module based configurations.
• 3+ years of experience with containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes (EKS preferred); familiarity with Helm.
• Proficiency in Go or Python (or similar programming language).
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD systems (Git-based workflows, Argo, Jenkins or similar).

• Collaborate with customer Analytics/BI teams and Braze colleagues on implementations, including use case definition, data integration, pipeline setup, and ML model configuration
• Extend product capabilities by improving architecture and developing reusable data pipelines, APIs, and components
• Work closely with the RL pipeline development team to refine and advance our reinforcement learning (self-learning) algorithms
• Contribute to shaping Braze's product strategy and roadmap through customer-facing insights and technical expertise
• Provide ongoing technical expertise to ensure successful adoption, measurable outcomes, and long-term customer success

WHO YOU ARE

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field required; Master’s or PhD in a relevant technical discipline preferred
• Experience: 3–5+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, or similar role working with large-scale data and production environments. Experience in customer-facing or consulting roles is strongly preferred
• Strong technical expertise: Proficient in Python (Pandas) and core ML libraries (TensorFlow, Keras, scikit-learn, CatBoost, XGBoost). Skilled in SQL for querying/manipulating datasets, with experience in machine learning pipelines and model deployment
• Engineering best practices: You write well-structured, modular, documented code; follow strong development practices (Git, CI/CD, testing frameworks, type-hinting, code reviews); and can build scalable, maintainable solutions
• Nice-to-have skills: Experience with DevOps tools (Airflow, Kubernetes, Terraform, GCP), data integration/ETL and pipeline optimization, or reinforcement learning algorithms
• Customer collaborator: Comfortable working directly with clients and cross-functional teams, aligning stakeholders, and translating technical concepts into clear business value
