Engineer, Software Support
At ASM, our Software Engineering teams works on delivering software that has immediate, tangible results visible in the operation of semiconductor processing equipment hardware. The hardware includes robotics, gas valves, temperature controllers and other hardware.
As a Software Support Engineer, you will make an impact by investigating, recreating, and troubleshooting software issues to resolution as reported by our customers.
Responsibilities:
- Gather information to investigate the issue, reproduce it, determine the root cause, and recommend corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software issues, including embedded software for control systems. Able to triage mechanical, electrical, and software bugs.
- Responsible for managing escalation calls with field support engineers
- Create bug reports for the developer to use when fixing the bug.
- Work with QA to add replicated bugs to the regression.
- Travel to customer sites to support installations, training, and troubleshooting of ASM products.
- Talking to the account team and GPS group (not directly with the customer) when investigating reported issues.
- The team will handle all issues until they are ready to send to the developer.
Minimum Qualifications

Supervisor Engineer (team lead), Software Support

As a Supervisor Engineer, Software Support, you will make an impact by investigating, recreating, and troubleshooting software issues to resolution as reported by our customers.

- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the support team, including task assignment, workload distribution, and monitoring punctuality and backlog management.
- Act as the final point of contact for complex or high-priority customer escalations, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Provide coaching and professional development for staff, identifying training needs and creating individualized development plans.
- Gather information to investigate the issue, reproduce it, determine the root cause, and recommend corrective actions.

Job Description
The Embedded Software Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining firmware for SmartRent devices, including Z-Wave controllers (hubs) and access control systems. This role supports the integration of hardware devices with SmartRent platform services, enabling reliable communication between field devices and cloud-based systems.
This role contributes to firmware development using the Nerves framework and Elixir-based systems and collaborates with hardware, platform, and application teams to implement new functionality, support device reliability, and maintain existing device software.
Responsibilities
- Lead medium- to large-scale development efforts across the embedded stack, from firmware through device interfaces, operating with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Design, develop, and maintain firmware for SmartRent IoT devices using Elixir and the Nerves framework.
- Lead the bring-up of new hardware platforms, including driver development, peripheral integration, and system validation.
- Develop and maintain device-local user interfaces running on embedded hardware using technologies such as Phoenix, Flutter, and gRPC.
- Integrate third-party systems, including HVAC, access control, and Z-Wave platforms, by interpreting vendor documentation and supporting required communication protocols.
- Develop and maintain automated tests and supporting documentation to ensure system reliability and prevent regressions across deployed devices.
- Develop project timelines, manage deliverables against defined milestones, and communicate risks, dependencies, and requirement changes proactively.
- Support team development through code reviews, technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and mentorship of less experienced engineers.
- Contribute to internal tooling, shared engineering resources, and open-source initiatives aligned with SmartRent’s technical ecosystem.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on software development experience.
- Proficiency in Elixir or Erlang/OTP, with working knowledge of the BEAM runtime, or demonstrated ability to learn and apply functional programming concepts.
- Experience with, or demonstrated interest in, embedded Linux systems development.
- Working knowledge of Linux internals, including device trees, kernel configuration, system boot processes, and shell tooling.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver projects from design through deployment with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new tools, languages, and technologies as required.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with the Nerves framework or embedded Elixir development.
- Experience with Phoenix, LiveView, or other Elixir-based web frameworks.
- Working knowledge of C/C++ for hardware-adjacent development or driver support.
- Familiarity with IoT communication protocols, such as MQTT, Z-Wave, or BLE.
- Exposure to HVAC or building automation systems.
- Experience integrating access control systems or similar hardware-based platforms.
- Ability to read and interpret hardware datasheets and schematics at a foundational level.

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead development efforts for complex semiconductor processing equipment and related control systems. This role requires strong hands-on technical expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to drive high‑quality software delivery across global, cross‑functional teams. You will manage a team of software engineers (local/remote), define strategy and roadmaps, and ensure the successful execution of software development for multiple product lines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a software engineering team of roughly 5–10 engineers
- Strengthen team capability through cross‑training, mentorship, and structured development
- Lead mid‑size development projects (up to 5 engineers per team)
- Define and execute software development plans for assigned product lines
- Develop and maintain product software roadmaps
- Balance project portfolios to maximize technical and business impact

- Strong proficiency in C/C++/.NET

Role overview
At ASM, the Software Engineering team works on delivering software that has immediate, tangible results visible in the operation of semiconductor processing equipment hardware. The hardware includes robotics, gas valves, temperature controllers and other hardware. Come join our team and have the opportunity to:

Note: This role is intended for candidates who are graduating in Spring 2026 or have graduated within the past two years and have 0–2 years of professional work experience.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve software for our semiconductor manufacturing equipment
- Developing for Windows and Windows Real-time Operating Systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve computer software issues, including real-time software control systems
- Able to triage mechanical, electrical and software bugs
- Responsible to manage escalation calls with field support engineers and customers at a national and global level
- Work with QA / Support team to add replicated bugs to regression
- Author, revise, and review system specifications, software designs, test plans, and other software documentation.
- Investigate both internal and external inquiries, questions and problem reports. Offer problem analysis, solutions, or alternatives as a result of these investigations.
- Evaluate software engineering tools.
- Participate in system design teams.
- Travel to customer sites to support installations, training, and troubleshooting of ASM products.
- Develop schedules for software development efforts.
- Provide engineering solutions to resolve all software issues
- Evaluating new software and hardware tools for possible department use
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong software development skills in C++
- 1+ years’ experience as a generalist or mid-stack software development with a Bachelor's degree OR recently graduated with Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Computer Systems
- Graduating in Fall 2025 or graduated within the past two years
- 0–2 years of professional work experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong software development skills in C++ and C#
- Educational background in Computer Science or Computer Systems
- Experience working with multiple items listed below
- Software for Machine Control (including Semiconductor equipment)
- Developing for Windows and Windows Real-time Operating Systems
- Multi-threaded applications
- Real-time software
- Graphical User Interfaces
- Device drivers or other interrupt driven software preferred
- Data Communications and Networking
- Knowledge of programming tools such as text editors, debuggers, application builders and configuration management tools.
- Ability to read code and understand the functionality implemented and the ability to translate the functionality into another piece of software
- Comprehend software documentation including specification and design documents, communication interface specific and API description

Job's Mission:
As a Software Quality Assurance Engineer at ASM, you will ensure the reliability and effectiveness of our software that drives cutting-edge semiconductor processing equipment. You’ll work on testing and qualifying software, streamlining QA processes to align with CI/CD development, and collaborating with talented global teams. Your contributions will directly impact the functionality and performance of advanced hardware in the semiconductor industry.
What you will be working on:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, document, and improve software test suites.
- Perform both manual and automated testing in simulation environments and on physical semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
- Execute and analyze the functionality of engineering designs compared to intended outcomes, providing valuable feedback.
- Automate, streamline, and maintain QA processes to integrate seamlessly with CI/CD development workflows.
- Develop and implement quality standards, methods, and procedures to enhance existing business processes.
- Work closely with Process Engineering teams to test systems, validate engineering designs, and identify quality improvements.
- Create and manage tests plans and test cases, ensuring thorough validation of software enhancements and defect fixes.
- Gain an understanding of ASM system operations, including mechanical, electrical, and software functionality.
- Document testing procedures and feedback to ensure quality and consistency across projects.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s + 5 years of experience, Master's +3 years OR PhD + 2 years of experience. Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or C#.
- Experience with system quality assurance or engineering for complex electromechanical equipment with integrated software controls.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.

- Experience in software configuration management or versioning in a software development environment.
