Supervisor Engineer (team lead), Software Support

At ASM, our Software Engineering teams works on delivering software that has immediate, tangible results visible in the operation of semiconductor processing equipment hardware. The hardware includes robotics, gas valves, temperature controllers and other hardware.  

As a Supervisor Engineer, Software Support, you will make an impact by investigating, recreating, and troubleshooting software issues to resolution as reported by our customers. 

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the support team, including task assignment, workload distribution, and monitoring punctuality and backlog management.
• Act as the final point of contact for complex or high-priority customer escalations, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
• Provide coaching and professional development for staff, identifying training needs and creating individualized development plans.
• Gather information to investigate the issue, reproduce it, determine the root cause, and recommend corrective actions. 
• Guide your team members to create bug reports for the developer to use when fixing the bug. 
• Travel to customer sites to support installations, training, and troubleshooting of ASM products. 
• Talking to the account team and GPS group (not directly with the customer) when investigating reported issues. 

Minimum Qualifications 

• BS+ 8 years or MS+ 4 years in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. 
• Proven ability to motivate, inspire, and foster a collaborative team culture.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in hardware and software, with familiarity data structure, networking, algorithm and modern operating systems (Windows).
• Software development or test (QA) experience. 
• Ability to travel 10-25% domestic and international.

Preferred Qualifications 

• Preferred expertise in C++, C#, Python, Gitlab\Github.  
• Experience with semiconductor equipment preferred 
• Experience working with two or more of the following is preferred: software for machine control, Semiconductor Factory Automation, Multi-threaded applications, real-time software, device drivers, or other interrupt-driven software

You’ll be a technical leader who solves the toughest software challenges in semiconductor manufacturing—driving system reliability, safety, and performance for our global customers. In this role, you won’t just fix issues—you’ll lead investigations, influence architecture, and deliver long-term, systemic improvements that power advanced semiconductor technology worldwide.

What You’ll Be Working On

• Lead deep technical investigations into software-related safety interlocks, validating corrective and preventive actions.
• Analyze and optimize multiple interacting subsystems, gaining end-to-end understanding of full platform workflows.
• Drive root cause and corrective action (RCCA) using packet captures, log correlation, and system-level analysis.
• Design and evaluate subsystem architectures, including multi-threading and scheduler interactions.
• Develop, test, deploy, maintain, and continuously improve software for advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
• Troubleshoot complex software issues, including real-time control systems.
• Act as a technical escalation point—supporting field engineers and customers globally.
  Partner with QA and Support to reproduce field issues and strengthen regression coverage.
• Author and review system specifications, software designs, and test plans.
• Investigate internal and external technical inquiries, delivering clear analysis and actionable solutions.
• Evaluate and influence software engineering tools and system design decisions.
• Plan and coordinate rapid software fixes and deployments in high-impact environments.
• Present technical insights, progress, and outcomes in customer QBRs, including findings from complex DOE analyses.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related field) with 10+ years of industry experience, or Master’s degree with 4+ years, or PhD with 3+ years of relevant experience
• Strong software development expertise in C++ and/or C#
• Experience developing for Windows and real-time operating systems
• Solid understanding of multi-threaded applications
• Experience working with software documentation, specifications, and APIs

What Sets You Apart

• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) and experience in software architecture and machine control systems, ideally within semiconductor equipment
• Hands-on experience with GUIs, device drivers, and interrupt-driven software
• Knowledge of data communications, networking, and EtherCAT
• Understanding of dynamic scheduling algorithms and deadlock avoidance
• Proficiency with development tools such as debuggers, application builders, and configuration management systems
• Ability to triage and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and software issues holistically
• Strong analytical skills, including designing and interpreting complex DOEs using multivariate methods or PCA

• Able to triage mechanical, electrical and software bugs
• Responsible to manage escalation calls with field support engineers and customers at a national and global level
• Work with QA / Support team to add replicated bugs to regression
• Author, revise, and review system specifications, software designs, test plans, and other software documentation.
• Investigate both internal and external inquiries, questions and problem reports. Offer problem analysis, solutions, or alternatives as a result of these investigations.
• Evaluate software engineering tools.
• Participate in system design teams.
• Travel to customer sites to support installations, training, and troubleshooting of ASM products.
• Develop schedules for software development efforts.
• Provide engineering solutions to resolve all software issues
• Evaluating new software and hardware tools for possible department use

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong software development skills in C++ 
• 1+ years’ experience as a generalist or mid-stack software development with a Bachelor's degree OR recently graduated with Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Computer Systems
• Graduating in Fall 2025 or graduated within the past two years
• 0–2 years of professional work experience
