Job Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Workshop Foreman to relocate to Saudi Arabia and oversee the daily operations of a busy heavy vehicle and equipment workshop.

This is an important leadership role responsible for ensuring repairs and maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. The successful candidate will lead a team of technicians, manage workshop workflows, maintain productivity targets, and ensure maximum fleet availability to support operational requirements.

The ideal candidate is a practical and technically strong diesel workshop professional with proven supervisory experience, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to motivate teams in a fast-paced operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop Planning & Coordination

  • Plan and coordinate daily workshop activities according to operational priorities and repair schedules.
  • Allocate work to technicians based on experience, skill level, and workshop capacity.
  • Adjust schedules to accommodate breakdowns, urgent repairs, parts availability, and operational requirements.
  • Monitor work-in-progress and ensure repairs are completed within agreed turnaround times.

Technical Leadership & Quality Control

  • Provide technical guidance and support to technicians during diagnostics and repairs.
  • Assist with troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Ensure repairs are completed correctly the first time and meet quality standards.
  • Conduct inspections and approve completed work before equipment is returned to service.
  • Identify recurring issues and implement corrective actions to reduce downtime and rework.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, supervise, and motivate workshop technicians and support staff.
  • Conduct daily briefings and communicate priorities clearly to the team.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job training to develop technical capabilities.
  • Support performance management processes and promote accountability within the team.

Workshop Administration & Reporting

  • Ensure job cards, labour hours, repair records, and supporting documentation are completed accurately.
  • Monitor technician productivity, workshop efficiency, and resource utilisation.
  • Prepare regular reports on workshop performance, maintenance progress, and operational constraints.
  • Escalate risks, delays, and resource shortages to management in a timely manner.

Parts & Resource Management

  • Coordinate with stores and procurement teams to ensure parts and consumables are available when required.
  • Minimise delays caused by parts shortages or incorrect ordering.
  • Support inventory management and stock control initiatives.
  • Ensure tools, workshop equipment, and lifting equipment are maintained and used correctly.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce all health, safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure the correct use of PPE, tools, and workshop equipment.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and promote a strong safety culture within the workshop.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve workshop productivity, repair quality, and equipment reliability.
  • Support initiatives aimed at reducing downtime and improving maintenance efficiency.
  • Promote best practices and continuous improvement within the workshop environment.

What You Need:

  • South African citizen willing and able to relocate to Saudi Arabia.
  • Qualified Diesel Mechanic with a recognised Trade Test or Red Seal qualification.
  • Valid EC driver's licence will be highly advantageous.
  • Minimum 5–8 years' post-trade experience in a heavy vehicle, fleet, or diesel workshop environment.
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience in a Foreman, Leading Hand, Workshop Supervisor, or similar supervisory role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, drivetrains, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and diagnostics.
  • Experience with workshop scheduling, labour allocation, job cards, and work-in-progress management.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety requirements within workshop operations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong planning, organisational, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced operational environment.
