Gritter Francona is looking for a Technical Writer/Editor that will be responsible for researching, writing, editing, and reviewing a broad range of written materials supporting the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) National Center for PTSD's educational media initiatives. The Technical Writer/Editor develops clear, accurate, and accessible content that translates scientific evidence, clinical protocols, and technical information into plain language materials for Veterans, trauma survivors, caregivers, healthcare providers, and the general public.

Working collaboratively with project managers, subject matter experts (SMEs), scriptwriters, video producers, graphic designers, and Government stakeholders, the Technical Writer/Editor ensures all written products are evidence-based, technically accurate, grammatically sound, and consistent with the National Center for PTSD's mission of providing compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive educational resources. Written materials must maintain a serious yet hopeful tone that encourages treatment engagement while communicating complex behavioral health concepts in an understandable and engaging manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, write, edit, and revise a variety of written materials supporting educational video production and public outreach initiatives.
  • Develop and edit reports, articles, newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, guidebooks, training materials, fact sheets, reference materials, speeches, scripts, news releases, website content, and other communication products as required.
  • Translate scientific literature, clinical guidance, and technical information into plain language content suitable for public audiences.
  • Review written materials to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, readability, grammar, style, and compliance with approved clinical guidance.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), clinicians, researchers, project managers, and Government stakeholders to validate the accuracy and completeness of educational content.
  • Edit scripts and supporting production materials to ensure consistency with evidence-based practices and established messaging.
  • Apply Federal plain language principles and editorial standards to improve clarity, accessibility, and audience comprehension.
  • Ensure written products maintain a serious, compassionate, and hopeful tone while presenting information about trauma, PTSD, effective treatments, and co-occurring conditions.
  • Develop content that is trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and respectful of the diverse experiences of Veterans and other individuals affected by trauma.
  • Coordinate document review cycles and incorporate Government feedback while maintaining version control and editorial consistency.
  • Verify citations, references, terminology, and formatting for accuracy and consistency across all deliverables.
  • Ensure written materials comply with applicable accessibility requirements, organizational style guides, branding standards, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Support public awareness campaigns, including PTSD Awareness Month initiatives, by developing and editing educational and promotional communication materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, Public Health, Health Communications, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience providing technical writing and editing services relevant to the requirements of this task order.
  • Demonstrated experience producing and editing professional written communications for healthcare, government, educational, or scientific organizations.

Cory Gritter (Founder and CEO), a United States Marine Corps (USMC) veteran, was severely wounded while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan as a scout sniper. During his multi-year recovery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Gritter joined the Wounded Warrior Mentoring Program (WWMP), where he was mentored by Carl Salzano, who was then an executive with Booz Allen Hamilton, and a US Navy veteran himself. After Cory completed internships with Network and Security Operation Centers for both commercial and government clients, he founded Gritter Francona in January 2013 on the premise that significant opportunity exists to harness the unique and diverse skills possessed by Veterans.
