About the Company

UBT are proud to be partnering with a successful and growing environmental solutions business to recruit a Technical Product Development Manager.

Operating across the UK, our client helps organisations reduce environmental pollution through innovative dust suppression, odour control and wastewater treatment solutions. Serving sectors including construction, waste management, wastewater, industrial processing and energy, they have built an excellent reputation for delivering practical solutions that help customers maintain environmental compliance and operate responsibly.

As a family-owned business with a strong track record of growth, they are continuing to invest in their future and have created this brand-new position to support the next phase of their development.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on product development and technical leadership role for a mechanical or Electrical Engineering professional who enjoys turning customer challenges into practical, commercially successful products.

Reporting to the Business Operations Director, you'll establish and lead the company's technical product management function, ensuring new and existing products are developed, documented and introduced to market in a structured, scalable and commercially successful way.

This is a unique opportunity to shape a newly created role and build the frameworks, systems and processes that will support the next stage of business growth.

You'll lead a small team whilst remaining actively involved in product design, development, testing and  problem-solving, and setting technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an approved product development roadmap and methodology
  • Own the complete product lifecycle from concept through to market introduction, including consideration of full product deployment, servicing, and whole-life performance.
  • Translate customer requirements, operational challenges and technical expertise into commercially viable products and structured product definitions and specifications.
  • Lead the development and enhancement of the company's product portfolio, with a focus on scalable, standardised and modular solutions.
  • Manage, mentor and develop the capability of a small Product Development team.
  • Maintain a hands-on approach to product design, prototyping, testing and technical problem-solving.
  • Develop and embed structured product development processes, stage-gate controls and project governance.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive product documentation and technical standards, including specifications, bills of materials, build instructions, installation instructions, technical files, testing records, manuals and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure product information is accurate, controlled and accessible across the business, with clear ownership, version control and structured data management.
  • Lead product validation, testing and structured risk assessment activities (e.g. FMEA) to ensure efficacy, quality, reliability and compliance.
  • Work closely with Operations, Procurement, Sales and Technical teams to ensure products can be efficiently manufactured, delivered, installed and supported.
  • Drive successful product introductions by ensuring full operational, technical and commercial readiness.
  • Support the rationalisation and continuous improvement of the existing product portfolio to improve scalability, efficiency and customer experience.
  • Capture and leverage technical knowledge and expertise from across the business to strengthen product design, performance and repeatability.

Requirements

We're looking for a technically credible engineering professional who combines strategic thinking with a practical, hands-on approach.

You'll have:

  • A Mechanical, Electrical or General Engineering background.
  • Proven experience in Technical Product Management, Product Development or Engineering Project Management.
  • A strong track record of taking products from concept, design and validation through to successful market introduction.
  • Experience creating and managing technical product documentation, specifications, technical files and product data.
  • A solid understanding of structured product development methodologies, project management and risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical systems, ideally within industrial equipment, pumps, process systems, environmental technologies or similar sectors.
  • Experience leading, coaching or mentoring technical teams.
  • Excellent project management, planning and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A solution-focused mindset and the ability to thrive within a growing SME environment.
  • High levels of organisation, attention to detail and a passion for continuous improvement.

Experience within the wastewater, environmental, utilities, process engineering, industrial equipment or related engineering sectors would be highly advantageous.

Why Apply?

This is a rare opportunity to build and shape a newly established function within a growing business where your contribution will have a direct impact on future success.

You'll have the autonomy to introduce best practice, strengthen product governance, improve technical knowledge management and help bring innovative environmental solutions to market.

Working closely with senior leadership, you'll play a key role in developing products that support cleaner air, cleaner water and a more sustainable future.

This role would particularly suit an engineering professional who enjoys balancing technical product development with process improvement, documentation control and successful product commercialisation.
