Services Lead, Belmont Shore (Coastal Rowing, Open Water Swimming and Sailing)
Position Summary
Within this division, LA28 is looking for a Sport Services Lead working across Sailing, Open Water Swimming and Rowing Coastal Beach Sprints events at the Belmont Shore venue. Under the authority of the Rowing Sport Manager, the Sport Services Lead is responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, and management of the administrative functions of the events at Belmont Shore during the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Sport Services Lead will need to relay and facilitate critical services for key stakeholder groups, such as athletes, International Federations and technical officials. They will also coordinate sports information with the various divisions of LA28, participate in the planning and operations of test events, coordinate the recruitment of sports staff, as well as the recruitment and training of volunteers needed for competitions in their sport.
Key Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate, and be the dedicated sport contact person in organizing visits from the International Federation in coordination with the Sport Managers, Sport Planning & Operations Team, IF Services Team and Head of Competition Management.

Act as the dedicated sports contact for coordinating services-related matters with the International Federation, including accommodation, transportation, accreditation, and hospitality.

Advocate for and coordinate all sport stakeholders’ services including Athletes, Technical Officials, IF Staff and IF guests.

Create and ensure organized follow-up of the sharing of databases related to key topics of the Sport Delivery Plan between the International Federation and the various departments of LA28

Serve as the primary point of contact for NOC/NPC services teams to establish an effective communication channel in preparation for their visits and information requests.

Support the Sport Manager(s) to ensure that all operational procedures and processes of LA28 are understood and followed.

Collaborate with the Sport Manager(s) and the head of technical operations for the coordination of the teams and administrative operations: monitoring, updating, and sharing the database and various resource documents, planning management, and of the organization, team meetings, etc.

Work closely with the Sport Manager(s), the technical operations lead, the National Federation, and the LA28 Workforce team to recruit, train, and ensure the operational management of sport-specific volunteers.

Collaborate with the Sport Manager(s) and the technical operations lead to recruit, train, and deploy the team responsible for delivering the competitions.

Work closely with the Sport Manager(s), the International Federation(s), and the National Federation(s) for the selection and training of the National Technical Officials (NTOs) required for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Manage all other tasks and projects related to the delivery of competitions as requested by the Sport Manager(s).
- Collaborate with the IF Services and Relations Manager to ensure sharing of information and tools with the services team and other stakeholders.

Manage a team of full-time employees including scheduling, task delegation, training and on-site management

Manage a team of Sport Specific Volunteers including recruitment, retention, training, scheduling, recognition and task delegation

Act as point of contact with LA28 Functional areas to solve Games Time issues

Act as point of contact with the International Federation team to identify and solve Games Time issues.
Background and Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years equivalent professional experience required
-
Experience in collaborating with National and International Federations and knowledge of their structure and functioning during national and international events.

Ability to demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the operational elements required for organizing major sports events/competitions.

Experience in international sporting events.

Experience in working with an International Federation and knowledge of their structure and operation is an advantage
-
Experience of working with a National Sport Federation and knowledge of its structure and operation at domestic and international events is an advantage
-
Experience in managing a team (staff and volunteers) at major events.

Good understanding and knowledge of project management, including planning and producing tracking documents.

Ability to manage multiple projects involving numerous stakeholders.

Skills in report writing and presentation materials.

Knowledge of the Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as the specific sport’s technical requirements is an advantage.

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).

Excellent level of English, both written and spoken, is essential for this position.

Experience or knowledge of coastal/water sports is desirable, especially Sailing, Open Water Swimming and/or Rowing.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Available to work onsite in our Downtown Los Angeles-based office.

The majority of work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment.

The LA28 office is an open floorplan working environment; employees must be able to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment.

Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods.

Perform other duties as required; the role will evolve over time and may include operational responsibilities during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Ability to stand for long periods of time

Ability to be outdoors in the elements for long periods of time including sun, wind, rain, etc.

The annual base salary range for this position is $88,000.00 - $110,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
